Wedding Vows At Last!
Back to: Just Before the Wedding Next: Just After the Wedding (Part 1)
At last the time had come for Reginald and Helen to exchange their wedding vows.
A hush fell upon the few that had been invited to the wedding.
Inez from the office took a seat next to my Uncle and me.
If she thought it odd that Trent wasn't sitting with us, she didn't comment.
I was happy because Joey was sitting in front of us.
‘He is cute isn't he?' my Uncle's smile was amused. ‘He's really nice too.'
Was my little girl crush so obvious?

Tony made Frank, Vinny, and Shelly take the front bench on the other side, so that part of the chapel didn't look so empty.
Gone was the pallor in Helen's face. She now looked radiant and happy.
Reg didn't even look half bad. Being caught up in the spell of romance, I momentarily tried to forget he was an idiot. He really did make a handsome groom.

Reg and Helen opted to exchange their wedding vows Sim style. There were a few that had the vicar of their church preside over the wedding, or used a best man, or flower girls, but most just like to recite their handwritten vows before friends and family. I always thought the traditional way best. It was simple yet very romantic.

The two exchanged their heartfelt vows.
Reginald slipped a wedding ring on Helen's finger.
I saw Allie pass Tony her handkerchief.
Tony's little Princess had grown up.

While Helen presented Reg with his wedding band, I looked sideways over at my Uncle.
He was looking down at the ring on his finger. There was a far off look in his eyes as if he weren't really here at all.
Perhaps, he was thinking of wedding vows exchanged years ago.
I thought it was a real rip that same gender couples couldn't get married for real.

After the exchange of wedding vows and rings, Reg drew Helen into his arms.

My Uncle snapped back to the present to wittness the kiss.
He shuddered and made a face.
‘How can she kiss that ugly mug.' he whispered in my ear making me giggle. ‘It's enough to give a person nightmares.'
Inez who was wiping tears from her eyes with a tissue, gave us both a stern look.

Once the ceremony had been completed in front of family and friends the marriage license was valid.
Reg and Helen were now legally bound. Only death or divorce could part them.
Reginald joyfully swooped Helen up into his arms and swung her around.
No matter what would be said later and what bad things could be said now about Reginald's character, he was truly in love with Helen.

IrishGrace: I feel a bit better today. We've been getting hit hard in the midwest with all the flu going around. Where I live it's summer one day/freezing the next.
You mention you were packing. Are you moving?
