I like the white and black ones because their color seems so "un parakeet" like. The ones in the stores here are mostly green/yellow or blue white/maybe yellow combos. We had one we rescued that was yellow/green named Jade. I used to take her outside in her cage and sit on the patio and sometimes sparrows would come by to filch her millet. I never had a pet bird before but remembered reading that the Chinese take their birds out in cages for walks so I did the same with our bird. My ex-sister in law was a big bird person and so is my nephew.

that's such a sweet story. The baby birbs are actually a dark blue and white. They are absolutely stunning, aren't they?

I had a budgie once. I learned that budgies and kitties are a tough mix. Mine didn't kill her, but they did stalk her a lot.

They are! I've come up with a name for the middle one - Piña Colada. The second youngest is Sno-Cone for now, and I think the youngest will be either Blueberry or Icee. And I got lotsa pics that I put together in groups of four:

The pic of Sno-Cone is kinda blurry but I wanted to show off his pretty blue feathers.

So cute! Blueberry or Icee has reached the point where he looks like he needs to brush his feathers. lol

They have grown up so fast. I've never had the opportunity to watch baby birds grow up before. It's an enjoyable journey.

Thanks! Anyway, my mum didn't like the name "Piña Colada" (her mind got in the gutter) so now his name is Banana.

Edit: And here are the pics... had to take them kinda late because my mum and I went shopping.

Sno-Cone has fledged the nest, by the way. Might hafta wait a week or so for Blueberry to do the same. Both Kiwi and Sunny D have done some flying and are not that good at it yet... poor things kept flying into the walls hope they get better at flying because I don't like seeing them get hurt!

I love that picture of Banana. he's making the cutest face.

They will get better at flying. Then you'll have a flurry of flying babies all around you.

Well, there are three naughty budgies that are going to get their wings clipped this morning. They decided to fly out of the playpen and into some rather hard-to-reach areas, and one, Kiwi, even found the perfect hiding place - on a picture frame on the window sill, behind the recliner. I know how some people feel about clipping a bird's wings, but it's for the bird's own safety - I don't want the bird to end up getting lost and possibly stepped on, or flying into the laundry room or some other place he ain't supposed to go, and eating something that might be poison. I love my babies, and I want what's best for them.

Anyway, here are the pictures:
https://www.deviantart.com/sanjouin...rdies-811982171 - The Troublemakers
https://www.deviantart.com/sanjouin...maker-811982362 - The QUEEN of Troublemakers

Now I understand if anyone is offended by me getting my birds clipped, but it's better than them staying in the cage all the time, and even hand-tame birds can fly the coop and get lost or hurt.

They are YOUR birds. Do what you think is right.

It's been maybe a year or so ago and someone was on one of these threads, very upset because her bird had gotten out and was gone. You can't catch them once they're out. Better safe than sorry, I say.

They are beautiful, you love them, and are taking good care of them.

Thank you for being understanding about this. So anyway, I thought that Sno-Cone wouldn't be getting a trim, but he got one too. And my mum didn't cut the three or four outermost feathers - she only cut the inner ones, so the birdies don't look like they have short wings.

Back when I was a kid, I had a super-affectionate female cockatiel that couldn't fly very well, and I STUPIDLY let one of my sister's friends play with the bird outside because she couldn't fly high at all. Big mistake... somehow the bird just got lost. Never saw my Twinkles again.

I also had found a cockatoo in the forest around that time (give or take a couple years) and we caught the bird and used the Doggone service to let everyone know that we had found a stray cockatoo. Eventually, the owner came and claimed the guy. I was just happy that the lady got her birdie back. It was kinda neat finding a cockatoo in the thicket. Not something you see everyday, right?

That was a sad story. To me it's even worse because they aren't native to this country. I worry about their ability to care for them themselves.

I'm glad they got their little feather cuts and are none the worse for wear. I'm happy you don't have to worry about your birbies. :3

Thank you! The three older birbs - Sunny D, Kiwi, and Banana - are still very much up to no good. I had a helluva time wrangling those three. Sno-Cone and Blueberry are still being good.

It was hard getting all these pics because the birdies just wanted to fly off where I could barely reach them - naughty little guys XD

Such sweet baby faces! I'm sure they are still excited because flying is a new skill. It's going to be hard until you get them potty trained and accustomed to going to their cages when you want them to. Watch your feet and be careful when you open doors.

how much can birds with clipped wings fly? Is it kind of like chickens?

These little keets can fly better than chickens even with a lot of their feathers clipped. So yeah... they just fly to a high-up spot and then sit there and laugh at me XD

Being a parent is never easy, even when it's teeny birb babies.

Yup, it is cute, and they've gotten big! They're almost old enough to feed themselves now, I think. Anyways, more piccies!

https://www.deviantart.com/sanjouin...-Pics-812306970 More close-ups - including one of Sunny D helping Blueberry with grooming.

Been taking the pictures in the evening more, when the babies are less likely to fly around. We need to trim their wings more so they won't fly up too high and possibly get hurt - especially when the 'bird-dicer' (the ceiling fan) is on. Yeah... my mother has a rather twisted sense of humour at times.

Yeah, clipping them more MIGHT be a good idea. You don't want diced house chickens! Also, as long as they can fly high up to "get away", they might be able to escape through a window and fly to the top of a tree. Then they are gone. We don't want that. They're too cute to try to live on their own.

Totally agree! Meanwhile, baby birdies have a new cage! https://www.deviantart.com/sanjouin...-Cage-812414904

I think they will all be OK since Sunny D is feeding the younger ones and both Sno-Cone and Blueberry are over four weeks old. Just imagine that... been around a month since the last two hatched!
