Noticed that the online computer specs (http://ark.intel.com/products/52210...-up-to-3_70-GHz) for my Intel Core i5 2500K processor say it is a quad core processor. I just looked on Device Manager under the Processor tab and it only lists 4 items, which according to this site (https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Deskt...or/td-p/1692615) that means it is a dual core CPU. "To verify that your system is quad core enabled, go to the Windows Device Manager and under 'Processors' you should see 8 lines of 'Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2500K CPU @3.3 GHz' or something similar. This indicates that your CPU has 4 cores and can run 8 threads."

Why would Device manager say it's a dual core processor yet specs tell me differently?

What he wrote applies to i7's, and not to i5's like you have.

i7's have four cores that are able to run as if they were 8 cores. This feature is trademarked as "Hyper Threading".

If you go to the Intel page for the i7-3770 you'll notice it says 4 cores, 8 threads. That's why you'll see eight lines in the Device Manager. Windows acts as if there are 8 cores when there are in fact only four physical cores.

Your i5 can only run four threads, one thread to each of your four physical cores. Therefore you should see only four lines in the device manager.

My i5-6600K also lists only four lines.
