That is a new laptop? You bought it used, refurbished or brand new out of the box?
Strain on hardware is normally detectable by noise and heat emissions. So if the fan spinning and grinding speeds up and gets noisier and it is hot to the touch, then yes, you're causing long-term damage if you constantly put the laptop through that constantly, like for hours on end everyday.

Do you have lots of EPs and SP? Are you playing Sims 2 or 3 on this laptop?

As long as it is for Sims 2 only, and you're monitoring things like temps...

Do a Google search to find out what is the maximum temperature this card is build for. If it constantly reaches that maximum value or exceeds it and starts to overheats, it is time to stop playing Sims 3 on it.
You can monitor temps with tools like
- hwmonitor
- SIW
- speedfan
