Now I'm helping my brother get his own computer. Our budget is €1000, though we'd like to come in under budget and put some of that money towards peripherals. I've had a look around and pulled together a possible build, but I'm having trouble figuring out how good a power supply it'll need. I'd really appreciate some advice there. And if it's not too much trouble, it'd be great to have someone else take a look at what I've picked out, and let me know if I've missed some important detail somewhere, or otherwise done something not so smart. The SSD is optional but imo it's worth it if you have the budget for it. You should also consider maybe upgrading the GPU. It's weaker than the CPU and you seem to still have room in your budget. Gaming peripherals tend to be really overpriced, so I would suggest you're better spending a bit more in the GPU than in mice and keyboards...

Well, we weren't planning on anything fancy for peripherals, just replace the fairly old ones we have for the computer he's currently using with some newer stuff. I'll talk to him about the SSD and GPU though. I was hoping to get him a better GPU, but he's a little wary of getting better than he strictly needs (which is kinda crazy, because we have the budget and he spends a lot of time gaming, so a good GPU is definitely worth investing in). Thanks for suggesting the SSD. It didn't even occur to me, but you're right, it would probably be worth it.

I would suggest he get either R9 270X or GTX 770.

The 770 is something I would recommend to someone who wants to play upcoming titles like the witcher 3 or titanfall on high settings. The R9 270X may be more up his alley though if he doesn't want to go "overboard".

Thanks! I've talked it over with him and we've made those changes. We're gonna go with the R9 270X. Will the 500W power supply still be enough there, or should we consider spending another €8 to go up to a 600W?

Nope the 500W has more than enough power You could even go with the 430W Corsair, but for only eight euro's its worth to have some room for error in case he wants to upgrade later. It's not worth 16 euro's though to go from 430W to 600W.
