Title: The Grimms' Storybooks

UPGRADE August 6th, 2017

1) This update improves the routing of both teacher and students, making it more likely that they will position themselves correctly.

2) The occultist and clients now uses a more varied vocabulary, including Enthusiasms if FreeTime or any later EP is available.

Please re-download sdGrimmsStorybook_Books.zip for the update.

Purpose

To develop functional and decorative Storybooks featuring graphics and text from the folktales of the famous and influential 19th century cultural researchers and authors, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm.

Description

The project consists of one story telling book, two decorative books and a large collection of authentic recolours. The book and picture textures were created from the Mainz based publisher Josef Scholz's series of illustrated storybooks, released between 1904 and 1922. All included recolours depict Grimm stories except for The House Gnomes.

The text uses the original German, expressed in Simlish v3.

These objects are fully functional in basegame but also support FreeTime enthusiasms. This set is also compatible with the Opportunity Pack Lectern, Reading Desk and Ravendancer projects.

Contents

Each item in this set is available from the Hobby/Knowledge section of the catalogue. The Grimms' Closed Book and Upright Book are priced at §348 each and the Storybook costs §349.

1) The Grimms' Storybook - Sims of all ages (including toddlers) enjoy sharing folktales, increasing their Creativity, Paranormal Interest and FreeTime Film & Literature Enthusiasm while raising their comfort, fun and social motives. A Sim must have at least three points of Creativity to become a storyteller, and those who are magic users or have three points of Charisma may also earn an income. Moderately Charismatic and Creative Sims (those with at least three Charisma and Creativity skill points) will tell a story autonomously. Children cannot narrate at all unless they have at least one Charisma point as well as three Creativity points.

The basis of many of these folktales is magic, and if the storyteller is registered as a witch or warlock they will increase both their Charisma and Apartment Life Magic skills. Listeners enrolled in school or college will also earn Grade Points. Those who are witches or warlocks will also raise their Magic skill by attending the talk.

The default storyteller is either the Good Witch NPC or the Evil Witch NPC, chosen at random. If both NPC Witches are unavailable or Apartment Life is not installed then the Nightlife or FreeTime Fortune Teller (Matchmaker) will be invited. If the Fortune Teller is also unavailable then the Basegame backup is the Nanny.

The Storybook is college accredited for those majoring in Literature, but regardless of what major they may be specializing in, attending a lecture at the Orb will grant college credits to all those registered in university.

College and school progress is displayed at the beginning and end of each student's learning session. If a school student earns an "A+", additional study will earn Extra Credits which allow a child or teen to take time off without losing a letter grade, or can be saved for advanced placement (one full term for 1000 points) in college.

The Grimms' Storybook uses EA's built-in basegame book recolours as well as those from the Opportunity Pack Books and Collector's Editions, the Ravendancer project, and those included here.

Additionally, the Storybook uses basegame Rainy Day Main Street recolours for the picture on the left-hand page, such as those listed below and from http://modthesims.info/download.php...ms' Gallery.

2) The Grimms' Closed Book - Unlike the Storybook, the Grimms' Closed and Upright Books are not made for story tellers to use. Instead they are skill building decorative objects like the Opportunity Pack Special and Archival Editions and the Ravendancer Closed Books. If the player chooses, Sims will gather around one of these decorative books and discuss it together, building a skill, interest and the Film & Literature enthusiasm (FreeTime or later), until their needs are depleted.

The Closed Book is sized to represent the The Grimms' Storybook when it is not being used for story telling. Viewing this volume has the potential to raise Creativity skill and the Culture interest.

3) The Grimms' Upright Book - the Upright Book represents the Storybook when it is put away on a shelf. This book can raise Charisma skill and the School interest.

4) The Grimms' Book Recolours - in addition to the Opportunity Pack Book and [http://www.modthesims.info/download.php?t=519229]Collector's Edition[/url], Ravendancer, and the built-in basegame book recolours, the three volumes in this set can use the following 16 textures that are adapted from the Josef Scholz fairytale collection.

5) Rainy Day Main Street Storybook Recolours - this adaption of 60 Josef Scholz fairytale pictures supports both the Grimms' Storybook and the basegame Rainy Day Main Street wall painting. The painting sells for §350 and has an Environment value of 3.

This set is distributed in three downloads, as follows:

Terms of Use

You may include any item from this set in uploaded lots, whether for free or pay. It is nice but not necessary to provide a credit and link to this page.

Recommendation

I suggest using Pescado's Community Lot Skilling and Enthusiasm patch so that these and all other skill building objects are fully functional on all lots.
