Parties

This guide is all about throwing great parties in The Sims 2.

Inviting Sims

By default, you probably won't be able to invite many sims to your parties. The game scales the number of sims you can invite based on your computer, but it often scales it pretty low - so even though you can handle more sims you'll only be able to invite 2 sims.

There is, however, a cheat to help you with that:

However, you really don't need to have many people at the party to have a successful one. In fact, it may be easier and more effective to just invite a single sim! See below for more information on small parties.

Make sure whoever invites people over has a good relationship with them - getting turned down for party invites tends to negatively effect your party score.

Before the Party Starts

Do some preparation before your guests arrive to ensure everything runs smoothly...

  • Buy some of the items listed below under "successful parties" if you don't already have some.
  • Prepare at least one plate of filling, good food - your guests shouldn't have to eat cookies out of your fridge.

Successful Parties

The main factor that contributes to a successful party is social interactions! Social interactions, social interactions, SOCIAL INTERACTIONS!!!

Get your sims together in groups, doing group activities, and you're bound to have successful parties. Here is a list of good activities for parties:

  • Admiring
  • Bar Drinking
  • Bubble Blower (University)
  • Champagne Drinking
  • Gossiping
  • Fighting (yeah, really!)
  • Hot Tubbing
  • Hugging
  • Kicky Bag (University)
  • Kissing
  • Myshuno Game
  • Poker Table (Nightlife)
  • Pool Playing/Billiards (University)
  • Stereo/Radio Dancing
  • Talking
  • Television Watching
  • Woohoo

Use "Invite to join" if your guests don't join up with the group activities listed above to get them involved.

You do want to tend to stay hovering with your guests, mingling and being social, but remember to give them time to eat and use the bathroom. If they have to go too bad, or are too hungry, they'll just leave, and your party will be a disaster! Use "call to meal" to get your guests eating at the same time, and have one table everyone can sit at - they'll talk to each other as they eat.

Try to isolate the party area - a party basement or a garden party, and if you have Open for Business, you can lock all the other doors to keep everyone together and interacting in the same area.

Use the influence option, if you have University. You can basically force your sims to interact this way. Plus, the sim who throws the party usually wants to influence his guests anyway.

Small Parties

One of the most effective ways to fulfill a party want is to have a very small party. You don't have to invite the whole neighborhood - in fact, you can have a great party just inviting over one or two sims.
