How many downloads do you people have? I'm running a new AMD Athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.21 Ghz, 1 GB RAM and ah... I see the problem. GeForce FX 5200 with 128 MB of RAM and it takes about 30 minutes or longer to load the game. Gotta get a better graphics card for sure. I have a million downloads though. Gotta get a better graphics card.....

Im running a P4 2.8 GHz 800 Mhz FSB with a 5200 gfx card with uncapped/hacked drivers. Also have 1024 mb ram up from the stock 512. Have 400 GB HD space and a jetstream connection. The fastest sub NZ$1000 com for its time. (8/04).

But even with all that the graphics arent crash hot either [ I have to run the damn thing on low]. And its not just the sims; other games lack too [ NFS Porsche 2000]. Mainly the shit graphics detail annoys me, but the game loaded within 54 seconds. Until I went on a downloading spree and put on 1500 odd downloads..... now it takes 4 mins.

My advice is to upgrade RAM by at least 128 MB (if you can. If not 64 Mb). As for graphics I'd say GeForce 5700 or a 9600 Nvidia one.

i am buying a 512 RAM thing. that would make my RAM... 768 MB. On all the lowest settings, that should be quick for loading (on a 2x2 lot with one person in a few weeks time testing the new functions of nightlife)

that should make a vast improvement but won't always be perfect. i'm not sure i will push my luck on my laptop with nightlife though. my game is running really well at the moment :D
consider a way of making sure your PC doesn't overheat too. aiming a fan at the cpu can help
i have a laptop which used to crash dreadfully but i have a cooler for it and now it rarely crashes

The tutorial on how to speed up the game, was at sims2techguide.net, really did work. My load speed is now down to under 10 minutes and that's great for me. I'm also going to try the thing on how to clean up the downloads. :-)

Another thing ot keep in mind, those machines w/ onboard graphics reserve part of the system RAM for video. So that amount is unavailable to the OS & Apps.

A friend of mine has an Emachine w/ an AXP 1800+. Had 256MB and we added 512 for a total of 768. Also, his machine had an AGP slot so we stuck in a GFFX5900/256 (<--VRAM) card and now his game runs MUCH faster and smoother than it did before.

I'm so excited. I just recieved my new gfx card in the mail this morning. It's an AT Radeon 9800SE with 128MB Ram. Does anyone else have such a card? Is it a good performer? I can't wait to get off work so I can try it out.

My laptop

Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Service Pack 2 (Build 2600)
System Memory 1015.4
Intel (R) M processor 1.60GHz
DirectX Version 9.0c
Display Device Mobile Intel(R) 915GM/GMS,910GML Express Chipset Family
Display Memory 128.0
Sound Device SoundMAX Digital Audio
NEC DVD+-RW

My game runs great, I am thinking it has to do with the gig of RAM I have.
The intigrated video card is a pos, Intel needs to either start making something worth while or stop making the crap they are. :smash:
As I said my game runs great, however for the life of me Body shop will not run at all! :werd:

Well I just found out that because it's the Xpertvision 9800SE, I can unlock the other four pipelines via RivaTuner and have a fully function 9800 Pro. How cool is that!

Default Graphics card
Hi,
lve nothing against Dell...never owned one so carnt comment but a friend of mine had huge problems with his ,was told by Dell that he couldnt replace anything unless one of their guys did the upgrade or whatever. (Dell warranty=watertight apparently).

My comp originally had very similar onboard graphics to you (mines an emachines and still a pain) it too played sims very laggy and took forever to load the game. l upgraded the ram to 1 gig and most problems were solved. (l have xp which is pretty resource hungry so anywhere over 512 mb ram is considered a "sweetspot" for gaming on none gaming machines) Any comp can be upgraded be it memory, graphics or sound....its just a matter of knowing exactly what you need. Is it a pci card you need or a pci-express?...if you can tell me what motherboard youve got then l may be able to help.

Are you checking for spyware/viruses regularly? Surprising what nasty problems can be caused by spyware alone.

Lace.

Over gig memory ddr
ati radeon 256mb ddr 9600 graphics card
amd athlon 30+ processor
msi motherboard
120 gb hard drive
creative labs 5.1 digital sound card
liteon dvd/cdr drive

my game seems to run fast and i have my settings on high, sometimes however when i build and have to many objects and stuff it lags slightly, however this does not spoil the fun, im hoping when nightlife comes out there will be a patch or some updates hopefully for the game, to resolve some bug issues, as for bodyshop mine does load but take ages.

XP Pro
512 DDR
MSI GeForce FX 5200 128MB
MSI K7N2 Delta Mobo
AMD Semperon 2800+
200 GB SATA HD (Shopping for a second one!)

I'm having no problems and great graphics, 1.3 GB for my downloads. It usually takes me about 1min to load up but beyond that everything is fine.

A defrag now and then is always good.
