A second cry erupted from her as his fist connected with her head, already tired and scared the blow was too much for the fragile woman and she crumpled to the ground. The lights flickered in the corner of her eyes and darkness claimed her.
Unconsciousness reigned....

But then she smelt the gas light and the dirt, worse - she heard the voice of Sir Michel.
"My dear I am so glad to see you've awoken. I like to have my toys at least semi conscious before I play with them." slowly he ran his tongue over his lips.
Staying silent Alessia struggled to get up, to her panic she realised she was fixed to a wooden chair with straps. Helpless and at the mercy of a man who had none.
Sir Michel ran one finger down his wifes face then licked the tears from his finger tip.
"I have to leave you for a little while but I'll be back and then we can play together. I hunger to see how much you can survive before you break"....

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
Three days later Sir Michel's corpse was discovered in the back streets of the city, in an area frequented by the homeless and prostitutes.
A single bullet wound in the middle of his forehead was obvious cause of death, he had also been beaten and bruises formed on his face. However, his killer was never found.
Those poor unfortunates still alive in the cellar of Calstone House slowly died of starvation and their wounds. Their screams and tears unheard, and un-noticed.

For now the house was silent, only the sound of rats gnawing and chewing and the buzzing of bloated flies in the cellar...
I hope you enjoyed Part 1 of the History of Calstone House, part 2 is coming up!

A handsome, blonde haired young man arrives in the city to pay a visit to the offices of 'Harkness & Associates' Law firm.
Despite his youthful appearance he seems a serious young man and is granted an appointment with a legal aid in the prestigious firm. Some minutes later he is granted an interview with the senior member of the firm 'Sir Harkness'.
He is introduced as Dr Sebastien Cale.

Dr Cale appears to be the illegitimate son of a late client of the firm, namely the late Sir Michel Calstone. If the he was indeed who he claimed to be then the fortune of the late Sir Calstone and the mansion Calstone House would go legally to the young man sitting across the desk from him.
Sir Harkness was an elderly man and a man of high morals, the fact that a man such as Sir Calstone had, had extra marital affairs came as no surprise to him, the fact that this young man should so blazenly announce himself as an illegitimate child shocked him greatly. Gathering his wits he asked Dr Cale for the documentative proof that Dr Cale had mentioned to his aid.

All legal documents were to be prepared for Dr Cale, Sir Harkness (After overcoming his shock) informed Dr Cale that whilst the paperwork and legal proceedings were being finished he was to be housed at a top class hotel in the city at the firms expense.
Despite Sir Harkness's shock he realised that Dr Cale was now a very wealthy young man and a future client for 'Harkness & Associates' with any luck. His business flair and appetite for the finer things in life overcame Sir Harkness' moral thoughts on the whole subject.

In medical school he had specialised in Psychiatric medicine and had longed dreamed of running and owning his own private hospital/clinic. Thanks to the inheritance from his late father he now had that chance.
Contacting the correct authorities and institutions he re-opened Calstone House. It was now a Private Clinic for the Criminally insane. He had changed only part of the name.
"Calstone Psychiatric Clinic".

When he asked where the access to the cellar was he expected a kitchen access or garden one, his surprise was evident when they told him that the only access to the cellar was via the study.
After the cleaners etc had gone he spent some time walking through the empty rooms of the house before finishing in the study. The door to the study was before him, even knowing it was locked he couldn't resist trying the handle.
To his surprise the door opened easily and without any hesitation he descended into the cellar. The smell down here was vile, something he remembered from the medical school autopsy room, it was the smell of cadavers. The gas lights still worked and he turned them all on before starting to explore the cellar. The first room he entered took his breath away.
It was a cross between a laboratory and a junk room, scinetific instruments and piles of books were in the room as were a broken chair. The floor was filthy and the walls disgusting. In the middle of the room was an old chair bolted to the floor.
To his disgust there was a pool of old dried blood near the chair and sprawled in the stain was a skeleton, some fragments of long dried hair and clothing still hugged the bones.

After reading a few lines he discovered some facts that at first disturbed him, then his curiosity grew and his appetite for knowledge.
It was the journal of Sir Michel Calstone - his father. It mentioned how he had tortured, experimented on and fulfilled his ultimate sexual fantasies on a number of young men and women, mostly the poor and destitiute. However the remains in this room were not of one of the homeless, Sir Michel marked in the last page of his journal that he had kept in this room his own wife - Lady Alessia Calstone, prisoner and witness to his bloodlust, sexual depravity and experiments.
He would read all of the journal later but first he had to get rid of all the old remains and rubbish cluttering up the cellar. After all the cellar would make an excellent area for solitary cells and treatment rooms for his clinic...

Luckily Sebastien was a strong man, it took him only a few trips up the stairs with the sacks and then into the rear grounds of the house where he buried the remains without any ceremony. To him they were just old refuse gathering dust and taking up space in what was now his clinic.
The sun was hot on his back as he finished with the last couple of sacks, he would need to bathe and refresh himself when he was finished...

Dr Sebastien even had a lift installed easier to take the patients or staff into the cellar level where he kept his private office, surgery and of course the padded cells were.
The patients were fine at first then some began to have hallucinations...

Patient 1490562 had been retired for the night by the Duty Nurse Sister Mansfield at 8pm, when she left the room the patient was in good spirits and rested on top of the bedclothes without any signs of stress...

After returning the patient to his bed she had listened to an incredulous and horrifying story from the twisted mind of the patient.
He stated that he had woken in his room, the door had been open which was unusual and he thought it was time for breakfast. Upon leaving his room however he found himself in a cellar, the smell of gas light and mould lingering, he had discovered that the floor was sticky on his barefeet.
Rounding a corner he had let out a cry, it was a dead end, the floor pooled with blood and piles of rotting flesh which he was sure was human. The noise of the flies was apalling and almost deafening. At the far end of the room was a young woman on her knees wearing only her undergraments, her arms attached behind her back. As he tried to go towards her to help her the noise of the flies grew stronger, some of the insects beginning to crowd on his arms, his feet and worse - his face...

As the flies entered his mouth however she raised her head and smiled at him and the horror grew, for the woman had no eyes, just black empty sockets where flies bloated with her blood crawled in and out...
His screams had alerted the Nurse who found him lying on the floor of his bed chamber....

The cellar had been expensively and throughly refurbished. All trace of the previous horror was gone, all was white, hygienic and hospitalised in line with the Inspectors from the State System that had paid a visit before the offical opening of the clinic.

The examination couch was prepped by the Nurse and once the patient was in place Dr Sebastien told her she could return upstairs, he wouldn't need her again for a while.

His fathers journal was kept here and he referred to several of the other mans notes and added his own in the papers before him on the table. His treatment hadn't worked. With the next patient he would clearly need a new tactic, his father mentioned several techniques he had used on his 'patients' Dr Sebastien was eager to try some of them himself...

Placing his notes in the file drawers he re-entered the operating room, the cadaver was now cool. Pushing the trolley containing the body into the main passage he moved to the cold room. Here he stored those unfortunates that died whilst in his care. Their bodies his to use to further his medical training...

In one of his private rooms in the cellar he had created a test lab, several brains stood pickling, their previous owners having been patients of the clinic that had 'unfortunately' passed away during treatment.
Over the last few years Dr Sebastien realised that his father was right, in order to truly understand the medical, physical and mental state of a human being he would have to take the next step. That is to perform his tests and experiments upon healthy living specimens....

For the first time the clinic accepted both male and female patients where as before the clinic had accepted only male. Dr Sebastien had assumed that the male psychosis worked differently but his fathers notes and journal had told him that under the flesh male and female 'patients' were almost identical.
