That was very nicely stated (your comment about TSR), and even more profound was your statement on why 'adult' content will be permitted on MTS. In a game that so closely resembles 'reality' there is no reason why us gamers should'nt be able to replicate it in the game. I too have been playing The Sims since it's inception so many years ago, and MTS has long been the best fan based web site around. Keep up the outstanding work and give yourselves a well deserved pat on the back. And by the way, thanks for the open minds.

Anecdote:
There used to be (might still be) a GI Joe doll sold in the US (you know, us militarists). This was years before the "Mission Accomplished" GW Bush doll. It was sort of a Barbie doll (tm, etc) for boys.
One day a little boy announced firmly to his mom that he would NEVER be a soldier.
Why not???
It seem that the little boy had removed the GI Joe doll's trousers and noticed that something was missing... :0)

TSR makes their rules, becuase it is their site.....It is a subscription site, which means that individuals pay for the view points and th regulations and restrictions imposed by the site owners. TSR aims to be family oriented.
MTS2 is not a pay site, it has a age restriction for adult content with a disclaimer that waives the liability of the site owners. MTS2 is for modders who are more the likely slightly perverted artistic types.....I am an example of such
I agree that TSR has the right to do whatever they want, In turn MTS2 has the same rights. No reason to disrespect or flame TSR for being what they are. TSR provides a family oriented product where as MTS2 provides a service. Thanks for keeping it free!!!!!!
Now back to modding the game, LMAO

Well hot damn. TSR know that you can find porn via Google, yes? Slightly more racy than the stuff available here, too. Anyone mentioning Google is now BANNED!!!
Okay, I was being a bit silly there. Anyway, a couple things I wanted to say...
TSR bothers me. I have a few items in the database there, and while I know nobody is subscribing for the explicit purpose of accessing my "wonderful" works, my creative output still adds to their "database of content" which is a selling point for their subscriptions. I get no reimbursement for my contribution to their business. Now, I'm not suggesting they've cheated me or anything like that. I just consider that notion, as well as their "as soon as you've submitted anything we can distribute it as long as we want and you can't stop us" (coupled with their hypocritical 'RESPECT THE ARTIST OR DIE MAXIS' attitude, to be unethical. That's my specific beef with TSR. I also think subscription sites are quickly becoming obsolete with The Exchange providing free bandwidth to distribute for anyone who wants to. And yes, I come from a background where people don't charge for their mods.
Something I also wanted to say is that I have a great amount of respect for the way MTS2 is being operated. Not that you're keeping downloads free, although that is mighty cool, but the attitude that surrounds the place. Granted all the stuff you go on about in the forums, picking apart the game data to alter things, goes way over my head, but the free exchange of information discovered is greatly commendable. I don't think anyone would mind me saying that the great tools already available (I'm looking at you SimPE) could not have progressed as far as they have if everyone were locked away trying to figure out everything for themselves, and hording their work. So congratulations for the already greatly positive contribution you've made to the community, and to the available enjoyment of the game.
So umm.. yes. Thanks for the site.

So MTS2 has been banned by TSR. Not surprising, and probably has little to do with the "official reason". I live in the heart of America's Bible Belt and have come to realize (in my 50-some years) that most people have a "valid" reason for banning things. This reason is not, "I don't want to see this", rather it's "I don't want you to see this, because, God forbid, you might start developing your own ideas and quit listening to mine". Unfortunate, but true.
I, also, noticed a couple of postings stating something to the effect that this is a purely American point of view. I travelled pretty extensively in my younger days and found this attitude pretty much universal. Everyone thinks their way is right and everyone else is wrong. I don't mind that you think that way, just don't ask me to buy into it.
Personally, I found MTS2 from a link at EA Games, TSR the same way. MTS2 is, without doubt, one of the best sites I've found, both for quality and content, and I recommend it to all my friends that play the game.
In the end, while TSR has the right to control what is on their site, they don't have the right to control me. I chose to come to this site. I choose what I look at on this site (even the scary genetic mishap). And I'm very appreciative of the time and effort that goes into these creations. Personal viewpoints don't, and shouldn't, color that appreciation.
Sorry if this seems rambling. I'm still half asleep.

I think I'm just surprised at the excessiveness of the ban. Deleting threads, like we've got the plague over here is just rediculous. I think a bit more politics are going on behind the ban and that is........we offer alot of high quality freebies here and it looks to me like the people making the money at TSR are scared of us. If they could get away with banning all mention of the Exchange as well, I'm sure they would do it. You'd think they make enough money. Their prices are quite high. I do have alot of my things up there, and I chose to put them there because at the time I didn't have a way of doing free permanent hosting like that, and I thought it would give my items alot of good exposure. Their new Nazi banning policy has me rethinking ever submitting another thing to them. It's one thing to ask someone not to do something, but it's quite another to force your opinion on everyone else. If anything, they've only made me want to make this site stronger

I don't know what to say, but I remember way back when TSR was a free site, and I remember that TSR had a lot of mature skins, but they did not have any age restrictions on them, so they have nothing to say, and I just peck at the side, found a skin with a women wearing a thong and a fishnet top, and guess what she had Nipples.... They are what I call hypocrites.

Thanks for all the great comments. We where discussing only last night that the Sims community is the only community one where you have to pay for modding sites or tools.
Personally I come from a background of running forums and writing tools (available free and with source code) for other games so it did come as quite a shock to see a lot of pay sites. I can understand it, but as a modding site MTS2 we aim to keep everything free
Some people have raised some interesting points here - that this site isn't the friendliest to browse around and you do sometimes have to dig deep to find useful stuff. I identified this as a problem a while back but with the server move and everything I didn't have time to do anything about it.
Now that everything is running stable we'll be looking at ways of improving the availability of information here.
Again, thanks for the comments

I used to visit TSR before I found MTS2 (certainly TSR was easier to find... top fansite link directly from TheSims2.com)...
But when I found MTS2, I knew I'd found the site for me :D
(Ironically I probably found the link from TSR forum )
I've not been back to TSR since. Different strokes for different folks.
I do think TSR fears losing members (or in their eyes customers) to MTS2.
Anyway, MTS2... WOOHOO!!!

Well, if TSR wants to ban any links or comments about this site, i suggest removing anything about them from this one. In addition, I think anyone who has a subscription there should perhaps browse and make sure they don't have anything from HERE (i.e. our hacks and mods, etc.) on their site that poor folks who do not know any better will pay for unknowingly. It has been mentioned before that unscrupulous people are stealing other peoples content and hard work, claiming it as their own, and making the unsuspecting pay for it on their paysite. I for one know beyond a shadow what i have created, and would take steps if it were to show up on a paysite. I have always given anything i have made away for free, and would hate to see that happen. If they don't want us, then we don't want them. That's the way I see it anyhoo.
Fuck 'em if they don't like us. It really isn't even worth any of our time, in truth...lol

I went to another site the other day via a link from someone - it turned out to be a paysite and all it had on it were recolours of Maxis content. This site did provide decent unique content for TS1 - but to ride on the back of that and charge for pissy fucking recolours for TS2 is bloody criminal.
The reason Sims 1 and 2 has provided a haven for people charging for mods/skins/objects blah blah - is that the other games are all mostly played by *serious* gamers. And by that I mean what I used to do for the last 7 years or so - lanned every weekend, entered comps etc etc. Sims is the game that non-gamers play (on the whole) and are less computer literate than the harder core of fps/rpg/combat multiplayer types (eg: geeks!! Most of the player base doesn't want to have to search around, read sites, learn how to mod/colour/make - they just want to go somewhere click a button and have it work =/ And there will always be people that don't want to actually work for a living that make paysites and charge for things that are out there for free if you look!
Oooh was that a highhorse?? Nah just a bottle of red .... I love this site its full of brilliant people who do stuff because they enjoy the challenge and us others who desparately wish we had the talent to do it but can't

"The Sims Resource is fully owned and operated by:
Ibibi AB
Generatorhallen
826 30 Söderhamn
Sweden"
But from what I seen the forusms moderators are mostly americans.
As for pay sites ... well I come into TS1 when pay sites already existed, some sites that are now subscription sites were free back then.
Reason they said was the trafic they could not support but 8th Deadly Sim is still maintain the same price as when I first seen it and then we have Simfreaks that launched a TS2 area were you pay for each item.
They are charging 0.90 for a 69 KB file!
Someone is clearly make money out of EA/Maxis property...
I do hope one day EA/Maxis get fed up and start to enforce a policy towards subscription sites.

I like TSR's rotation of items, but I still disagree with all paysites. I think they are unhealthy for any game mod scene. Nothing will convince me otherwise. I guess nothing changed since first Sims, still a bunch o whores out there.

I'm sure you all heard about how Maxis/EA invited some content providers to a little pow wow last year. Apparently they were trying to figure out a way to put the lock down on delivering custom content for money. But it didn't work out.
I can understand why someone would want to make money from a complex custom object with animations, bhavs, whatnot. It's a lot of work. I don't agree, but I understand. Still and all, TSR has some decent forums. As to trying to ban them back, that's silly. Just continue to post useful things here and reap what you can from TSR if you want. As I said, their forums have some decent members.
I'm still fuming over this moralist 'no-link-to-modthesims2' policy. It is truly asinine. It fits with their other policies though. At least they are consistently hypocritical and righteous

its just a case of jealousy (and worried that they wont make money when they have to compete with MTS2. which has far better content and is free)

smacksim, who said ban them back? Thats certainly not something we'd do.
TSR *is* a lot bigger than MTS2, and as some have said, Sims game players want a site where they can just click and get content straight away. They have the ActiveX installation wizard for example. (Which is actually quite easy to write - maybe I should do one for here )
MTS2 is, I believe, one of the main centres for Sims 2 modding - we aren't really skins/outfit orientated but more into actual modability of the game. To be honest, and I hope I don't offend people with this, there are only so many skins you can make until you run out of things to do and end up stopping becuase you can't do objects or animations or any of the other things in the Sims 2. Thats where TSR stops and MTS2 leaves them in the dust :D

Assimilate showed some good examples. I have seen others that were more "revealing" and had pubic hair and nipples showing. very "family oriented".

I didn't even have to attempt to find the content than Mange describes. Just a simple glance thru the gallery.
Maybe if there was something so unique and wonderful there... nope, not paying for badly Photoshopped versions of the hair and clothes that were included in the game. I also found it a little unnerving that clothes and houses are talked about like they're real. It's a game, people..
When I shell out any money for anything, it will be a donation to this site for all the great things I've found here. Anyone one can make skins... reinventing the game takes talent.
