I was wanting to add a covered porch to a house that I am working on, but can't seem to do anything other than a flat(floor-tile) roof over top of it. Not really sure if this is possible w/ Sims3, but I think alot of my homes would look ten times better w/ one....any chance someone can come up w/ a tutorial or tell me how this is done? I've built the porch on foundation and used columns so that there would be support....maybe I'm going about it the wrong way? But nothing that I do looks right in the very least....and I really don't like the flat roof as a porch cover.....Just looking for suggestions or something of the kind....Thanks!

BTW, although this is prolly an easy to answer question, I am not artistic or creative in any sense of the word...in fact, most of my houses are very basic...I would like to make them at least a little more than a simple square...lol...thanks for any help anyone can give me!

You can make covered porches in TS3. One thing that makes it easier is if there are floor/flat roof tiles there. Also you have to place it before you place windows on the wall of the house. To make it look right, you do have to take advantage of "undo" when electing the pitch. Take a look at a roof tutorial that explains how you do this, it's really not that hard. The main thing to keep in mind is that pitch slider only affect visible roofs. Once you get the hang of this then you will be creating gorgeous porches in no time.

The TS2 wiki section for building still applies to TS3 (most of the methods are unchanged), although some of the links no longer work as the authors no longer maintained it there.

Which of the tutorials do you mean? And what exactly is not working?

I'm trying to create a covered porch for a house that I'm working on and I used one of the TS2 tuts for covered porches, but when I delete the walls around the deck on the first floor like in the tut, it deletes my roof too so that there is no awning or cover over the porch...I found the tut here: http://www.sims2wiki.info/wiki.php?...ofing_Tutorials from the suggestion above...

Ok, I played around with it and came up w/ this....still a work in progress and nothing compared to what I've seen on here, but this is probably one of the best designs I've come up with....any suggestions or do I have the covered porch thing right?

I can't really see it on those tiny pics, but the backside porch seems to be what you wanted, no? It looks good for all I can tell (maybe it'd look better if the roof were a bit less steep – I think then you could also put windows in the wall behind it, on the top floor).

The front porch – the one with the big windows, not the one where the entrance is – looks a bit weird with that type of roof .. porch roofs would normally slope down from the house outwards, not have a peak in the middle.

("When I delete the walls it deletes my roof" sounds like you were using the autoroof function – but you seem to have worked your way around that by now)

I can't figure out how to adjust the roof pitch, I've tried doing that undo redo thing, but I guess I'm just not getting it right...lol, I need to keep playing with it...I thought it looked a little wierd myself and was thinking about removing the front porch all together and just doing a plain ol open deck...but I am happy with the back porch for the most part....I'm not too computer savvy, so not sure how to get bigger pics up, I have them on my myspace page and they are alot bigger there than when I posted them here, will see about finding a better place tohost them...is there a tut that explains how to do different roof pitches w/ TS3, I know you have to hit the undo and the redo buttons, but no matter what combo I use, it changes them all...so I'm thinking I'm missing a step....Thank you for the help!
