Default Base Game Mechanical Object
I would really like a Base Game compatible Mechanical building object. Are there any around that aren't car related?

CrispsandKerosene has a few skill-building items, but unfortunately they require the Freetime EP as two of the three objects raise the science hobby enthusiasm.

Thank you so much! Why is there such a lack of Mechanical items in general *sighs*

I've got a mod from Boiling Oil that makes tinkering build mechanical. Of course tinkering itself came with FT, but the mod it does turn a whole lot of objects into mechanical skill objects, including I think all tubs and showers.

ahem...if the problem is just that you don't have the other expansions and not that your game can't handle them, you can go to Origin and ask them for the sims 2. They will give it to you for free if you can show them your disk. then you would have all the expansions and stuff packs and could use any mechanical object.

Sophie-David has a number of posts here which can gain skills, needs, spells, all sorts of different things and in a variety of ways. Not sure which is specific to mechanical but you can browse thru her mods and see if any would be useful to you. (:http://www.modthesims.info/member.php?u=244019

All of your guys suggestions are awesome!! @smorbie1 I do have The Ultimate Edition though thank you for directing me to where I could get it if I didn't that's aces! Anyways the real reason I wanted base game mechanical items is because I have Sims Castaway Stories and base game objects work as long as there is a mesh included. There are skill objects for every skill except Mechanical and I get very bored constantly having my sims read lol. Saying that, I'll back up my game files and try out all of your suggestions. I'll report my findings asap.

So what I have found out while playing is that CrispsandKerosene skill objects work as well as Sophie-David's Opportunity/w Accessories. Im not sure if any of his/her other mods would work but hey more options for skill building which is what I was looking for lol. I didn't try the tinkering mod because I don't think it'll work but once again thank you for all the help!! This might be that final nudge that I needed to try my hand at modding.

there are a number of shipped version base game objects that build Mechanical.
-Study sub-menu on any bookcase.
-Repair interaction on various breakable objects.
-Medicine career reward.

SimPE's Object Workshop might help convert objects to other games.
