I have a mod that allows children to spawn on community lots as well, and it's always amusing seeing them come into bars and casinos during school hours when I haven't gotten around to setting up the VC.

Binning is unrelated. The term is used with Bodyshop/CAS stuff, most commonly with hair recolors but also accessories, makeup, and jewelry. Hair recolors being binned simply means that the colors are assigned to a color bin. (Meaning, a blonde recolor will show up in the blonde hairs in CAS/Bodyshop rather than in the custom bin, where unbinned hairs go.) Binning also applies to eyebrows, facial hair, makeup (binned as blushes, binned as eyeshadow, etc.), and jewelry. (It can be binned as accessories -- i.e., eyeglasses -- or binned as items that need to be bought via the Bon Voyage jewelry-buying system, where they are further binned as rings, necklaces, bracelets, etc..

Speaking of the repository technique, will anything go wrong if I merge CC that's being slaved or is slaved to another objects? (I use this guide and unique instance all the MMATs.)

Call me an airhead but has this always been here ? I was cleaning out my Hairs folder, getting rid of some custom hairs and defaults, and there it was. I looked through SimPE and I found 'ymhairricebowl' and 'ymhairricebowl_clone' but I have no memory of this being here. There's also a cm and tm version too.

That looks like one of the Maxis hairstyles, I think. Was that your question?

Yeah it is, the ricebowl hair, but my question is does it normally show up for the Young Male category? I've had in defaults for such a long time I forgot if it's supposed to be pinned under Sims 2 University or not.
EDIT: ok so after doing some research I found out this is a 'hidden version' of the ricebowl hair apparently, which I found out through here. A little weird how it shows up for now but the more you know.

Well, the last townie I had in my game that generated with that hair was a young adult.

Hm, interesting. Now I gotta find out a way to get rid of it, I always hated this hairstyle . I think it got 'unhidden' after I took out Artemida's default of the hair, they enabled it for all ages so maybe that's the reason.

I just use "fix flashing blue" on the batbox to give them a different hair when they show up with that one. I agree, it's pretty fugly.

Is there any way to update the images shown in SimPE's listing of characters? For example, there are several pixels who have officially become teens, but their profile picture reverts to the toddler picture.
I'd like to switch it to the teen one that's in their character data.

I have those phone calls modded out. Sims who are supposed to be at school won't call my house and then get mad that my kids are in school and can't talk to them.
It was Lilith who was playing hookie. Oddly, her father spawned onto the lot right behind her and didn't seem the least bit bothered that she wasn't in school.

The only thing I've ever done about that is use the update portrait option on the batbox but I can't remember whether it updates the thumbnail. The portraits drive me mad since FT changed how they behave. I'm afraid I've blanked them out now and have learned to ignore them. The thumbnails keep changing to the potato head anyway once you're away from the playable's lot and something happens to them to update their appearance.

Things like that slay me. It's like when mom dies and hubby and the children gather around, cry for one second and then run off engaged in a pillow fight or something. I'm like, "guys, your mom's DEAD".

@Maxon-I think it only updates the pixel that one is actually playing in their profile. Don't know if it affects the character data one..I rather think it doesn't-but I can check. I'd also like to know if one can delete a portrait in the data profile, if it's blank?
I just wish that Quaxi had developed a set of full instructions for using SimPE. It would have been so much easier to deal with than guessing at this stuff.

Is it possible to have the thumbnail show the defaulted outfit instead of the Maxis version of an outfit I defaulted?

Sure, mine do it all the time. I think it's probably some mistake I made along the way, though. :3

Sorry if this is confusing, but do people not post gameplay pics when they do the Good Genes Challenge? I always see the results after the said Good Genes sim is an adult and the sim's family tree, but never pictures during their childhood and stuff. I read the rules and it doesn't specify whether or not you can do that (I signed up for GoS a while back but I haven't got a response, so I don't know if I can participate on my simblr without breaking a rule or something).

I believe most Good Gene Challenges are done 100% in CAS.

That makes sense. Still, I'm curious about doing that challenge myself, I just don't know where to start. I'll ponder on it some more though.

Yes, hold down the CTRL key (or whatever the equivalent is on a Mac) and RIGHT-click on the thumbnail you want to change. This will update it so that it will show your replacement, not the Maxis outfit.

about hairs; I have recorded various shipped version non-hat hair styles into a spreadsheet file. base game through Nightlife; have yet to record the post-Nightlife non-hat hair styles.
male's rice bowl is a base game hair style. often Young Adults have the Adult version of a hair style. and often each Age has copies of previous Age's hair styles.
slightly related::
the hat Turn-On/Turn-Off; what does the game check for?

I think the 'hat' chemistry might be one of those glitchy ones that doesn't work properly. Or is it custom hair? I can't remember, I'm sorry.
Is there a way within SimPE to change the category of multiple objects at the same time?

about changing object categories; I think quickest and/or easiest way would be SimPE's OBJD Tool. though even with that, it is one at a time.
