The Oscars are tonight. Good luck to all the nominees, especially How To Train Your Dragons 2

*Update* Sadly, HTTYD2 did not win, but Big Hero 6 did and that was a great movie too.

Maleficent 6.5/10 Visually exciting, but the story was a bit weak. The ending was great, however, and almost makes up for the weaker elements. The costumes, make-up, and setting were fantastic. I prefer the original Disney story of Sleeping Beauty, however. Aurora seemed a bit dopey in this version. Otherwise, I like the idea of a back story and a rewrite for a villain.

I had to watch this in R.E the film was okay but I didn't really understand it, IMO I think the ending of the film was rushed.

Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy - 5/10? honestly, I probably shouldn't rate it. I was a little too tipsy when watching it to know what exactly was going on...but I don't know how much sense it would've made sober, either. I need to read the book anyway.

Tuck Everlasting - 7/10 I loved this movie when I first saw it when I was younger, but seeing it now I realized more of its flaws...still, it was a sweet movie. I liked the book when I was younger too.

My Neighbor Totoro - 10/10. I always love a good Ghibli movie, especially one as cute as Totoro (though the catbus can be a bit creepy).

Chappie - 7/10. I enjoyed it. It was pretty intense and gritty in parts, but I liked that the characters weren't moral absolutes.

Sweet Home Alabama - 8/10. It was my second time watching it, and it was just as nice this time around. I like movies that aren't too intense sometimes.

THAT. I watched that in my Post-45 class during first semester this school year. I can't remember much detail, but it was something along the lines of these aliens - my teacher called them "Pod People" - taking over the people of Santa Mira (not sure if that's how you spell it) by hatching from these pods, waiting until you sleep and then taking your memories.

I really like this film and one of my dad's look a like in the film so I like teasing him every time we watch the movie
I would like to see an alternate version where wolverine chooses to help them, maybe Charles wouldn't have become paralyzed If wolverine was there.
I don't know which order to watch the films now that days of future past has been made. Charles got killed in the Last stand so how was he alive in days of future past? I don't understand.

The Duff - 5/10. It was okay. It was trying to be like Mean Girls, but it just wasn't up to par. And it was pretty cheesy and stereotypical, but there were still a few funny parts. I think I'll check out the book but the movie didn't impress me.

Tiger Orange 7/10. - I just got to see this as a special showing at my school, but it doesn't come out until July. It was good and I enjoyed it. It was quite good for an independently made and produced low-budget LGBT film casting a porn star in a main role. I felt like it had a lot of different elements to it, which was nice. I also got to meet the director and one of the main actors, so that was cool.

Insurgent - 8/10. I actually liked it a lot, and felt they kept the feeling of the movie closer to the book. It was more violent than Divergent, which was actually a good thing since the book was. And it was very intense and action-packed, which was good. I didn't like that they changed one important thing though, because it lent a greater significance in the book version (not going to mention it because spoilers). And I'm mad they skipped the amity peace serum scene. But other than that it was good.

The Englishman Who Walked Up A Hill But Came Down A Mountain - Wouldn't watch again / 10
It stars hugh grant. This happens in old timey welshing-shire where hugh grant has to inform the shire that their "mountain" is just a hill by english law because it's not high enough. And so the shire-folk add dirt to make it a mountain throughout the movie. I guess the pull to watch is that it has some charm, or they're trying, but a better reason to watch is that it has transporter chief Miles O'Brien. There's a romance between hugh grant and tara fitzgerald but it would rather be cutely polite instead of steamy hot, and so it has a flat effect like much like the humor. It could be a decent film for those who like pleasant folk happenings and a unique scenario, but man it feels like at the time the movie was an obligation laid out like a hen's egg to pay for better movies down the line.

Home 7/10 - I enjoyed this very much. It was, like so many Dreamworks films, simply visually stunning. The details in characters brought them to a lively focus and allowed me to feel connected to them. I wanted to pick up Pig the cat and cuddle him so badly! The story itself was nothing extraordinary, but well told. I chucked, rather than laughed outright, and wept near the end. Overall, I liked the messages about friendship, conformity, and respecting other cultures. Even though I'm not really into pop music, the songs were ok. I actually liked the one J Lo sang. The score, outside of the songs, was good. This was a solid kids film and I would recommend it for families.

The Imitation Game - 2014 - 9/10 I was very moved indeed by the life of Alan Turing who essentially invented computers and who helped thrash the Nazis. The main character played very well by Benedict Cumberbatch. The female love interest wasn't much of a stretch for Keira Knightly who essentially played the same person she plays in all her films.

The Grand Budapest Hotel - 2014 - 10/10 I laughed out loud more than once and loved it's really quite bizarre storyline. The story contains some brilliant one-liners. Beautifully filmed with incredible sets - a retro-lovers wet dream!

The Day The Clown Cried - The Complete Reenactment

Without an okay from Jerry Lewis for an official release, this is all that we can get for now. The effort of one guy recreating the movie by playing all of the characters himself. He didn't actually see the movie but based it all off of the final script. If you haven't heard of The Day The Clown Cried, it's something that Jerry Lewis, himself, says "You will never see it. No one will ever see it, because I am embarrassed at the poor work." If this reenactment is legit, as in as accurate to the material and intention of the movie as possible, then the actual movie would be 1. not funny, but with unintentionally funny moments 2. manipulative and skilled in emotional blackmail 3. powerful nonetheless, and 4. memorable. This guy has a talent for illustrating thick accent, ridiculous shouting nazi men and terrified, crying children. He doesn't have a huge budget and many of the scenes are in his house, but you probably won't be confused about locations, characters, and what the situation is. The protagonist is a washed up clown named helmut doork who gets drunk and mocks der hitler mon, and gets thrown into a prison camp. You can tell right away where this is headed. But aside from the production, the power of the material shines through and you will be pulled in by the 15 minute mark if you can look past the presentation. Worth a watch for the drama and storytelling in spite of understandable limitations. Glad I saw it having time to kill, even though the single actor overly hams it up many times. Gets heavy, even atmospheric, when children are added to the situation to mess with your sense of humanity.

John Carter (2012) - 7/10

I was really surprised at how much I liked this movie. Granted it was a pretty stereotypical action flick, but the fact that it was envisioned in the early 20th century really impressed me for one thing, and the plot was full of twists and turns I didn't see coming (and I didn't know what exactly would happen until the very end). I also thought it was cool how it went from the 1880s (the original was written in 1917) to a futuristic mars landscape, which you don't see very often with sci fi. And the Mars princess was a total badass, which I'm sure they had to add in from the original source material, but it was nice. I thought it was a quite well done adaptation for one of the precursors to modern science fiction.

I made my dad go with me because I'm cool like that. We knew it would be good, just not that good! There were times were I should not have been laughing, but I did anyway. You should totally go and watch it if you haven't already :D
Also there was a trailer for Big Game(?) that looks super cool!
