Default Meshing tutorials?
I have tired to find meshing tutorials but it seems like they are all gone. I always get "page not found"

I really could use some information about how to get maxis' mesh in blender or in milkshape. I have cloned the objects that I want to re-mesh with Transmogrifier and after that, I exported the file but i have no idea what to do :D

Hi Gelis,

Objects in TS1 were not meshes, they were isometric sprites. That basically means that they are four flat images which get drawn onto the screen. That's why you can't have free rotation in TS1, only the four standard rotation angles.

There were a few real 3D meshes in TS1, notably the sims themselves, but objects cloned in TMog are almost certainly flat images.

If you want to change them, you'll need to export those images to files (it's been a long time, but I think there was an 'export' button?) then edit them in a drawing application like Photoshop, Gimp or Paint Shop Pro. Then you can import those objects back into your game.

For completely new objects, you might also need to adjust the alpha (so that the game knows which parts of the image are the object and which parts aren't) and the z-buffer image (to figure out depth). That's a bit more complicated, so I'm tempted to go hunt down a tutorial for you rather than try and explain it here.

If you want to use Blender or Milkshape, you can, but it's a very different thing to TS2. What you need to do in your 3D program is set it to render as isometric (most tools have a way of switching to an isometric perspective) then take pictures of the object at all four angles, then you can import those into TMog. Alternatively, you can look into Blueprint, but that tool was never completed and only allowed you to mesh certain kinds of objects.

Thank you. This explains a lot. Yes there is a 'export' button :D
