Cruise ships finally possible!! (Thanks for nothing EA!)
Yes its true! Look here:http://simscommunity.info/2017/07/0...go-on-a-cruise/
You can build 4 levels down and everything!
I'm off to start building on it now...enjoy

Whoa, this is awesome! I just downloaded it and plan on building the biggest buffet (because cruises are all about the food, so I've heard). Thanks for posting this
Adding the link that goes directly to potato-ballad-sims tumblr page with this amazing creation:
http://potato-ballad-sims.tumblr.co...ob-class-cruise
And, it converts to a .world file! I hear thunder, it's going to be a Simming evening (yay).

I'm not sure about 'weather mods,' I read that and thought of lighting mods. The gif on potato-ballad-sims page shows motion in the water around the cruise ship. I want to see it in-game so I'm going to load it up and drop a Sim onto an empty lot if I can.
Update: I changed one of the lots to residential and added bin Sims after removing the lighting mod I had been using. This is going to be so much fun to build on and play. The water has motion around and behind the cruise ship, and if you drop down to water level, you can hear the water movement. Steam rises out of the stacks. The sky is blue with lovely clouds and for the life of me, I don't know how the paperboy arrived quickly and safely.

If you have a mod that overrides the sea and sky parameters in your Documents\ Sims 3 folder, it will override the custom settings for this world.
It looks to contain custom cloud movement, sea movement and colour ramps, as do the EA worlds and many other custom worlds.

Amazingly, the ship is moving! You can see islands lazily pass by....wow and the moving water effect is absolutely peachy.
I don't know what to do with the lots. The middle one I made a base camp, with a town hall on it (cos you need one of those) and the lot behind it is now residential. I can make this an overstuffed house. I have paparazzi appearing and also tourists. The tourists have oriental names and I'm not sure if they are from Shang Simla or not.
A see-through glass restaurant in the middle deck, complete with a piano player, is a must.
A pool and some hot tubs on deck is another idea.
Apart from that, I am rather stunned at the quality of my new toy. It's quite amazing.

I only opened the world to get a look at the motion and sound, I didn't notice the islands yet (thanks!). There are 10 tourists scattered about with absolutely nothing to do, that's what they get for boarding a maiden voyage.
If you added the town hall so you can use NRaas mods, you can do that from an in-game computer. Maybe there's another use for the town hall that I've long neglected. Love the glass restaurant idea. Pools and hot tubs, slides and bars, bars everywhere. Damn, this is going to be fun. lalalala The Love Boat lalalala

Haha, it was indeed for NRaas use. Maybe a computer is better, still.
I just set the seasons for minimum length (3 days) for this hood also so it sees a quick variety.
One thing I'm missing is the 'click on ground > seasons > change weather to...' trick because theres no ground to click on. I wonder how this looks with rain.

It looks like a really neat creation. I always love when people get really creative with The Sims games like this. I may get it someday. I'm not sure, because I really love playing worlds with foliage to see as the seasons change. This kind of creation, by default, doesn't really have that. It would be a little strange for me to play it personally, but it's a really neat creation!

- Ideally, remove all weather mods as the one included within the files is specifically designed for the world. Otherwise, a custom sea movement mod is included, which you can place into your Documents\Electronic Arts\The Sims 3\Mods\Overrides folder. |
So basically, the idea here is that if you want to use this as a travel world, specifically one inbetween your homeworld and your destination world, you can't do it without reloading the game twice.
Here's what you have to do:
- Have Sims travel to cruise world (1 minute)
- Wait for cruise world to load (1 minute)
- Exit game and remove regular lighting mod from \Mods\Packages\Graphics or whatever it's in (2 minutes)
- Reload game and spend 3 minutes in cruise world before getting bored (5 minutes)
- Exit game and place regular lighting mod back in \Mods\Packages\Graphics or wherever it's supposed to go (2 minutes)
- Reload game and have Sims travel to destination world (3 minutes)
- Wait for destination world to load (3 minutes)
Whereas it should be like this:
- Have Sims travel to cruise world (1 minute)
- Wait for cruise world to load (1 minute)
- Spend 3 minutes in cruise world before getting bored (3 minutes)
- Have Sims travel to destination world (1 minute)
- Wait for destination world to load (3 minutes)
And besides, what are you going to build on those lots? You could build something that looks like it's part of the ship's hull, like a block of cabins or a community lot like a shopping mall or a pool deck, but would you really spend that much time on a world you'll only spend minutes in?
So why this is a cute idea in theory, and I thought it was mad kool and rad when I first saw it, it's really not that good of an idea in reality.

But now that we're at it, some suggestions.
And actually, I REALLY want that train one now. I'm going to look into that. I'm thinking it'd be a fictionalized mix of a high speed train and a sleeper train. There'd be four lots - two filled with seats at the front, a bar and restaurant in the middle, and a sleeper car at the back. Maybe the backdrop can be a giant, miles-long mesh with moving parts, since the decorative train from WA proves that you can make large decorative objects move.
Here's a quick concept with a reasonably appropriate train in a reasonably appropriate landscape. Obviously a number of custom assets would be required: The train object, probably made up out of a different mesh for each part, the world object, and maybe an interior shell for each part because it shouldn't be perfectly flat and square. Perhaps custom chairs, tables and (bunk) beds would be necessary too, considering the space constraints and the fact that train interiors have specially designed furniture.
There'd also be the aforementioned sleeper car, which I forgot to put in the picture (it's 3 AM ffs) which would have separate cabins with little bunk beds in them.
So obviously the cool thing about this is that it wouldn't require custom lighting or anything, and you wouldn't need to build anything. It'd also be visually interesting and probably VERY light on resource usage and loading times.
- A train world with 4/5 3/4x25 lots and a backdrop scrolling past at 100mph would be cool. Probably not doable without some proper creativity (how are you going to make a scrolling landscape that doesn't repeat every 10 seconds? How are you going to make a scrolling landscape?)
- A singular community lot of about 8x50 with a 747-shaped plane shell around it would be cool (and probably possible)
- A futuristic space station with a giant planet below it would be cool (especially if the planet revolved around the station, to give an artificial gravity sort of idea)

So anyway, that's an idea, that's something I'd like to make happen in some way. I'll do more research when A) I'm home and B) it's not 3:45 in the night, but until then I just want to know,
and I think you might know this @jje1000, whether the idea of creating a full world-sized scrolling background mesh is a realistic one. And if so, what'd be a good way to do it and if not, what would be the problem?

I'd seen this lot on tumblr but hadn't had the time to download it before- I'm looking forward to setting it up. I'm thinking a month long 'round the world' cruise and a shipboard murder mystery, because reasons.
Plus with rabbithole rugs I could actually fit quite a bit in here.

The cruise ship is meant as vacation destination, not to use to travel to the destination.
Apparently people irl do the same, they stay on a cruiseship for a couple of weeks and get kicked out a few times during the journey for some day trip (but I suspect really for the crew to resupply and have a break from those annoying tourists )
I think it is a very clever idea and EA should be jealous of how well it has been put together.
Now it is only waiting untill someone creates FTL Sims

I'm guessing that mod is to work together with other lighting mods? |
No, it's just that if you have a lighting mod, the sky and sea parameters that the creator made for the world will not work, and the ship world will have the same weather as your other worlds. In that case, if you drop the sea override file in, at least the ocean will move in the right direction and at the right speed. Looks like that's the most important parameter for this world.

First: @tizerist - Thank you so much for sharing your find.
This probably belongs in the Stupid Questions forum but after reading and rereading detail in the links provided I finally got up the nerve to ask: I have the world installed and that part is fine. I put the packages folder in Overrides. BUT I can not figure out how to go to lower decks to build in Edit Town. Or am I completely missing the obvious?

It looks very cool! I'm hoping the creator will post a video of it on youTube just to show off what the animations look like.

For other purposes... Need to have a basecamp for travelers, you can probably designated it as 2nd class. Build a luxury resort for 1st class. You'll probably want a residential lot made like an apartment with many NPC doors for whatever NPCs you have in the world such as bar tenders etc... Maybe a crews quarter. |
There is not room to do much on this, but if you look at the non-moving fake ship I did, what I had to do was add residences packed with 8 beds and place 8 sim families in them to populate the world. Before I did that, there was nobody there. So if I do this world I will do the same, use 2-3 lots to fill with sims and maybe one as a basecamp and one as a huge rec building for all the activities?

I so want to build a Resort lot for this world that looks like a cruise ship - I'd create a basement and put the cabins down there (along with the Resort RH rug), then on the above deck create things you'd see on a cruise ship; pool, workout room, movie theater, buffets, tiny little bars with gambling casinos, spas, wine bars, suanas, mini golf, karaoke, and on and on.
Some of those venues could be built on one of the other lots. I haven't started this because it's a massive undertaking, but if you had one of the 3 largest lots as your Resort you could create community lots on the other available lots with some other things typical on a cruise ship. I even looked up cabin lay-outs and cruise ship amenities at sites like THIS ONE and THIS ONE.
