2013 TS3 Official Contest Chat Thread
This is the official TS3 chat thread for our Cultural Diversity Sim Contest! Here you can post chatty stuff about the contest like:
- Awesome! I want to join!
- ”The entries are great! My favorite is Simmer1234’s entry for china!”
- Various other chattery type things - but please do not spam! Remember, we have a Private Message system so this thread is not for conversations you could easily have via PM or IM.
You can also post:
- additional pictures for your entry or pictures for a third, fourth, etc entry - you're only allowed two official entries per person and three images max per entry, but if you have more shots, post them here!
- If your category fills up before you get a chance to enter it, post your pictures for everyone to see!
- If you don’t want to compete for various reasons but still want to share your pictures.
- If you have pictures that don't fit exactly and still want to share.
- If you want to discuss or ask for advice about the country/nationality you’ve chosen.
Please remember to BE NICE! - You can post comments on the entries but don't be mean about it. Positive stuff or nicely-put constructive comments only! Remember, the main point of this contest is FUN!

Was the contest only for making Sims? I was excited to see objects for "Cultural diversity" (I thought that's what the contest was), but haven't seen any? Am I looking in the wrong place?

nOrbus, as mentioned in the news post, the cultural diversity competition is in two parts. The first, which ended up running from Jan to March, was for creating game content. We had a few entries (around 30 I think if you include the few that are still being processed) but that part is now over. This part of the cultural diversity competition is only for pictures of sims.

I have a quick question. I was wondering if it would be okay to use a downloaded pet(grey wolf) in the creative photo?

Sorry for the delay in answering, I've had a busy couple of days. D: As far as I'm concerned additional sims and pets are just like any other prop you would use to help your sim illustrate that creative shot so it's fine if they're downloaded as long as they comply with the rules (including the no pay CC rule) and your main sim is entirely your own work. A credit to the creator would be nice though.

missroxor- I hope all is well with you. We miss ya!
I just finished an entry to the contest.
I see now that it has posted that I linked unsized pics. Since I can't technically edit the post, I would like to know if I could get them swapped out for the proper size.
I don't know how other larger pictures are showing inline to do that. I have no posting savvy.

I was asking whether free retextures of pay hair was allowable CC or not because I had originally used a retexture hair to make my Sim and take the contest pics.
When there was no ruling on the matter, I just swapped out a definitely totally free hair and retook the pics.
I typed this up as I made the Sim.
CC used in the Point of Interest picture... There was quite a bit for 1 picture.
It's all free. CC, poses, ... all of it. Though items used are mostly from MTS and Around the Sims, there are a lot of sources.
If any specific item is in question, please just ask me and I'll tell you where it's from.
(If those asking are not contest judges/entrants, please post in the appropriate MTS WCIF forum.)
ETA: Pose Player link and...
BloodyScholastic- Indriyana looks totally different in the Kartini Day/Jaipong photo! And what great timing with your entry!

Reason: add missing link for bracelet that had toolregame on CAS pic o.O
I don't know if it's forumly acceptable to post 3 times in a row, so I plead ignorance and poking at a dead thread if I'm in error.
Again, missroxor, I'm having issues with images being displayed properly (both of my contest entries now). Ugh.
If you or someone official could swap out the pics for ones that will show, please let me know. I'd appreciate it.

If your photos aren't working, that's probably an acceptable reason to edit, seeing as you need them for your entry!
You didn't say what site you are currently hosting your photos on, but it's possible they don't allow remote links. You could always upload your photos to http://www.modyourpanties.com, and use the [img] links you'll get after you upload there.

boycey247- I see the problem with your contest images. Each one needs to have ".jpg" without the quotes at the end/before the image end tag [/IMG]
But I could see your pics @Flickr
ETA: (hope this helps- here are the direct pic links for your pics- just add the image tags around them)

Sorry guys. missroxor is away but well and I've rather neglected the thread. I'll read through all of them tomorrow and get back to anyone I need to. Thanks for being patient!
PlayinSafe, please actually do not post 3 times in a row from now on. (Now that I am getting back to you.) Just edit in your posts with additional commentary. As for the images, I'll have to check and get back but I believe you'll be noted for not following all the rules in the "technical" section, same as people who linked to pictures too small or did not post headshot and bodyshot on approved background, etc.

Imageshack Issues!!(My images could be in danger, lol)
At last.. my entries were all done. Unfortunately when I posted my second entry for Africa continent, my image hosting provider imageshack.us is messed up today. I cannot log in at all. Every correct ID and password I entered comes out with weird notification. Cannot access my images album on imageshack but my images are still here available on MTS. I'm worry about my Indonesia entry images existence since the images are needed to be judged, so I uploaded the images on postimg.org . Just in case ENTRY: http://modthesims.info/showpost.php...21&postcount=30

PlayinSafe Oh really. Thank you for the response. She's the same Sim on different screenshots. Maybe that's the power of makeup I postponed the entry time on purpose to fit the Kartini Day. Your pictures of Colleen and Leilani are very beautiful and inspiring. Good job on great high definition pics Well, FYI, I think the pics look better if they are in widescreen size rather than in normal desktop ratio size. Nowadays games are normally played on widescreen laptop rather than desktop computer so for the size pictures fitting to this competition (800x600) and (1200x1064) needs to sacrifice side or corner or part of widescreen screenshot. Very hard and saddening when you found out your pics would become distorted/stretched to fit the size rules or you should crop the picture.
Here my original pic ratio of entries:

Thank you, BloodyScholastic. I had proper size pics for Colleen. I posted in chat right after I uploaded that I derpedly linked the wrong pics if someone could edit that, but... :/ I don't know why it's resized when larger contest pics show inline. Oh well. At least Leilani had rightly sized pics.
Ooooo! I love those masks you made for Nsishumba's pic! Really great entry, too! We needed some more testosterone in the contest. ^_^
About Indriyana's pics, I meant it well. She is a very pretty Sim. I've made Sims with the same base Sim and only changed hair, clothes & makeup and the outcome looked totally different from the original.
everyone- It's really nice to see such varied entries in this contest. Besides loving the pictures, I've learned a bit from this, too.
missroxor- I still can't see boycey247's pictures. Did anyone official get back to her?
Maybe it's my connection, but some of tearsisfallingdown's (Japan) pics are missing now, as well.

BloodyScholastic and PlayinSafe, all of your images are showing up fine for me in the contest thread so I’m not sure if I’m misunderstanding the issue? I’ve PM’d both boycey and tearsisfallingdown though I could swear I saw tearsisfallingdowns’pics when I last looked

missroxor My images are actually showing up fine but the problem of imageshack.us, the image hosting provider that hosts my first entry (Indonesia) makes me worry about the images existence. Don't know for sure in the future if the images still there or would be disappear because of the website being down. Hope it clears you up For additional info, my full body screenshot for both entries, Indonesia and Zambia, is 600 (width)x 800(height), a portrait size mode of 800 (width) x 600 (height). The rest are 1200 (width) x 1064 (height)
PlayinSafe I can't see their pics either. I'm curious to find out the image hosting provider hosts tearisfallingdown's Japanese pics, http://sphotos-d.ak.fbcdn.net/, cannot be accessed. Whenever I tried to click the picture link, the notification says the link appears to be broken. boycey247 hasn't fixed the .jpg issue yet so the images don't show up.

I had a written about the history of the rodeo in the US, but after a quick review of the rules decided that it was too much when the focus of the contest is on the present. So, if anyone is interested in learning more, I put the history below.
Spanish cattlemen, known as vaqueros, ruled the West on ranches in the 1700s. They were a huge influence on the culture, traditions and even methods of modern rodeo. During the 1800s, the United States rapidly expanded westward under the Manifest Destiny policy and Americans moving into these areas adapted the customs of the Spanish, Mexican, Californio and Texican cowboys.
The cattle business boomed with the West feeding the East and ranchers would hire cowhands, aka cowboys, to escort the beef on long cattle drives from the Southwest to the railroads which ended in the middle of the country. At the end of these trails, American cowboys would celebrate by holding competitions among themselves to see who were the best riders, ropers and all-around drovers. But by the end of the century the open range was closed off by barbed wire and railroads extending to the Pacific Ocean. Cowboys were obsolete.
So many took jobs with Wild West shows (like that of Buffalo Bill Cody) which featured pageantry and showmanship. At the same time across the frontier, towns held annual stock horse shows where cowboys supplemented their income with informal competitions. Eventually, the Wild West show and stock horse show/cowboy competitions merged together forming the rodeo. As the popularity of rodeos grew across the country, cowboys could compete professionally.
Organization and set rules rose up in the early 20th century. The Rodeo Association of America (RAA) was formed in 1929 (becoming the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association [PRCA] in 1975). As many cowboys were also boxers, buckles were valued trophies since they are the prize in boxing. Thus, the modern Rodeo was complete. Rodeo is popular in Canada and Mexico (known as charreada and based on husbandry practices in Old Mexico). They are also held in other parts of the world.
