I honestly can't remember a downside to it, except that the obsessed fan got annoying and was a big stalker problem, but well, he was obsessed! Such is the price of fame.

See, I thought that it was almost impossible to earn decent money in Superstar, especially if you also try to keep relationships up. In The Sims, Energy went down way to quickly in Studio Town and without mods the food stands do nothing to satiate your Star's hunger (the buffet did, but why are the food stands so crappy?). Several guides also told of a certain number of relationship points you needed to have with the Nobodies to get the stalker to go away, but it never seemed to work for me, no matter how high the relationships with Nobodies were.
I love the atmosphere in Superstar, the High Fashion clothing, the Somebodies and Nobodies, all the ways to earn fame and money in Studio town you mentioned, but even with cheaty mods I found it way too much work for too little money. It was somewhat fun work of course but I get why people made so much mods for this expansion pack.

Hmm, I don't remember having money or motive issues, but then I played a long time ago and I'm sure most of the times I played I also had another sim in the house making money a different way. I think I usually had a witch or wizard about. And I never used mods for sims 1! I didn't discover them until some issue with TS2 sent me to the forums and then from there, well, the rest is history and my cc adiction has been going on for more than 10 years.

But maybe it's time to revisit TS1? I haven't gone back in ages because I can't stand the camera, but just thinking about all the stuff crammed into each EP has given me the itch to play again.

Yep, agreed about the difficulty with the Fame career track. But boy, does it compensate when you reach the 5 star level...

Going back to the topic of this thread, my unpopular opinion is that Cassandra Goth is kind of a bitch. In my game she frankly *doesn't care* at all with what happens around her peers: she don't care about Don Lothario cheating on her (she even cheated on him first, kissing Darren as soon as I loaded his house!), nor she does about her own children, or her father. She just wants... I dunno, maybe she just wants to be left alone. Or to screw around. Would have expected different from a Family sim...

Another unpopular opinion (maybe? ) is that, for me, Don Lothario is quite an attractive man. Maybe he is not the most loyal, or the most clean even, sim in Pleasantview, but does he know how to pull off that goatee...

I prefer to make sims that have weird faces than beautiful sims. It just makes them more interesting to play.
I find Florence Delarosa quite cute, her hair cut fits her face well.
I don't mind the Ottomas family, through I find that Peter looks like a porn star.

Always interesting what people like - Superstar for me was a complete meh of an expansion - the least interesting of the TS1 expansions as far as I'm concerned. But then celebrity does nothing for me in RL either so I guess it wasn't my cup of tea. I had the EP because I had ALL TS1 EPs but I don't think I actually looked at it further than going and having a look at the sub-hood. Mind you those mud baths were fun.

I disslike Florence Delarosa's nose. I do not know why, no idea. But I do remember when I bought OFB, that lot was first I opened, and my first thought was "I do not like her nose" :/

Whaaaaat? Lol, it's always fun to see if others' favorites are your favorites. I think the last two expansions for TS1, Superstar and MM are the best ones--definitely a far different mindset than the last two TS2 "EPs," AL & M&G. Those latter two, while they have some good stuff in them, always felt like last-ditch/quick cash grab attempts by Eaxis before abandoning TS2 for TS3.

As for looks--I do like Don a lot. He's one of my favorite sims. And I guess this is an unpopular opinion, but I like face 1 (and the rather traditional looking sims). Whether it's on this guy or this guy or this guy or even this guy, I swoon.

I just really want a celebrity system. I can use 'Make Me Know Everyone' but that corrupts your hood, right? And then you just get constant phone-calls, always get people walk past your house...they COULD have done this all in Glamour Life, MMAA! It's the perfect SP for it!

@PhantomKnight you know, they could have just taken into account and made the alignment dependent to the sim's personality exclusively. 4 points in niceness and 4 points in grouchiness. You know, it sometimes isn't consistent when you're very nice sim is an evil witch.

Also, on the side note, I'm the only one that finds personality point scale bar confusing? Makes me wonder why they haven't made points be highlighted from the middle to either side leaning to the respective trait, instead of those things from left to right. Even like the alignment thingy is displayed in the magic book is shown as I'm describing, although it's a meteor than a point scale. It's something minor. I suspect many games used this too while I'm unaware of it, but it bothers me slightly as it's just minor peeve.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

That might be annoying but it's not corruption.

@SneakyWingPhoenix, I like that alignment is separate from personality. I think it's totally possible to be a nice evil witch or a mean good witch. Alignment, I think, should be & is more about the type of magic the sim practices. The magic and types of spells are considered good or evil, not the sim. It's harder to make a case for this considering the type of spells a TS2 evil witch has, as Mellifera Attackum and Spiritus Poultria aren't really things a nice sim would do... But again, that's kind of what I mean by wasted potential of spells. Besides, there are always cases of sims acting against personality type. To me, being a good or evil witch is about the way you use magic, how you use it to get certain things.

In my game, good witches don't cast spells on other sims if they can help it. Besides using magic for some household chores, they don't really use magic to cheat the system and live more of a normal life. Whereas it's with my evil sims where I let them use any means necessary to get what they want, when they want it. It's more about immediate gratification for them, so they're more likely to use spells and the voodoo doll and the love potion to make friends or lovers and get people to do what they want. That townie my evil witch wants to befriend has negative chemistry or doesn't want to talk? Mactoamicus, Compello Acceptus, and maybe some love potion fixes that. Or maybe it's the middle of the night and my witch wants to go on a date--Appello Simae. Etc, etc.

Anyway, it's pretty funny that this came up, because I was just thinking to myself the other day that I'm like, training my witch to be evil and heartless. I just started a hood where I had the Goodies move in the Atrociously Evil Head Witch. In exchange for making them witches, she got to be a playable and move out on her own. I've been playing her household, thinking I'd have her wreak havoc all across the hood, doing whatever she could to live forever and preserve her life. But to do that she needs money, right? And the fastest/easiest way for a witch to do that is seduce, marry, and then murder townies. Obviously. BUT, she doesn't really like that. She's got plenty of lovers, which she likes being a romance sim, but when I moved in and "arranged accidents" for a couple of guys, she took it hard and continued to cry a lot more than I had expected considering she had zero nice points. But after the 2nd and 3rd guy, she cried a lot less and moved on quicker. So either she really liked that first guy more than I thought or I'm desensitizing her and turning her evil. Or, well, more evil cuz she supposed to be evil already. So yeah, just because a sim is an evil witch, doesn't mean they can't be nice or empathize.

As for Make Me Know Everyone, @didyouevenmakeasound, I think that would only corrupt your hood if it made you know NPCs that you wouldn't normally get to know, like social workers, drivers, therapist, etc.

Really? The best-paying fame-objects have an innate chance of failing* and a lot of the lots in Studio Town were ridiculously big (especially the Fashion-related lots) so your sims would take ages (and needs!) to walk to the next object. Even with AroundTheSims's moodboosters I found it hard to earn as much as high-level standard careers and those were a lot less tiring.

* For people who don't know, a lot of the Fame-career related objects, like the Music Booth and the Movie Set, you have to guess a sequence of 3 actions and you got 3 different choices. You have to pay attention to the NPC of the object to see if you're correct. For example, in the (higher Fame required) photo shoot you have to choose a Seductive, Energetic or Artistic pose 3 times. If the right sequence is Artistic-Artistic-Energetic and you chose Seductive-Artistic-Energetic the NPC will be mad-happy-happy and you know that the first choice shouldn't be Seductive. If you get 3 guesses you are guaranteed to get the right sequence as long as you pay attention, but the more guesses it takes, the less money you get. The later and higher-paying objects will only give you 2 guesses and thus you are pretty likely to fail, not get any money, still lose the needs related to using the object and lose Fame points so a lot of people modded these objects to give you 3 chances too. Some stuff doesn't require the guessing game and if I remember correctly you always get paid. In the (lower Fame required) photo shoot you just pose for an advertisement and get money.

Back on topic, I think University is actually a pretty good length if you want your students to do something else than writing term papers and studying skill points. My students also need to find boy- and girlfriends, earn badge-points, earn money (no20khandout makes this quite necessary), if they took townies with them the townies need a lot of catching-up to do and have fun. Yes, it takes ages if you have more than 3 sims to control, but with fewer sims the days fly by I notice.

By now it seems to me that disliking cartoony faces is the unpopular opinion around here.

So here's my unpopular opinion: I dislike overly cartoony faces. They don't blend well when it comes to to producing offspring, I don't find them funny, I don't find them charming. They aren't my taste. It's not fun, imho when the Ottoman twins get spawned and they look like mangy ratpeople. And no this isn't against people "who aren't conventionally attractive", because no real life person looks like that.

I've had Sims from mismatching faces sometimes produce children with sunken eyesockets. Sometimes glasses help, but for the extreme cases, only surgical reconstruction helps. (In-story, I just pretend that sunken eyesockets are an actual medical problem that can lead to later problems if not surgically corrected.)

I think those sunken eyesocets often look like the Sims in question are addicted to something.

Only a very small minority would disagree with you I suspect. Yes, faces that have characteristics only meshed (as opposed to real) faces could have get fixed right away in my game, like when a face has sharp edges or has wacky proportions. When I posted a while back about actually liking most of the the Maxis faces I in no way wanted to imply I liked the faces to look like abstract art . People disagree about what looks 'too' cartoony maybe, but most of us want the faces to look reasonable realistic in relative proportions (so not a nose that's 1/4 of the surface of the face, dear Maxis) and be relatively smooth in shape.
(On the other hand, some real life people have really unfortunate genes (expressed), don't underestimate how weird real-life humans can look.)

I've found that having different default skin tones makes a huge difference in how the weird sim faces looks. Try CatofEvilGenius' age-modified Hysterical Paroxysm Idolatry of Flesh skins and compare them to Pooklet's We've got Obsessions skins on the same sims. They look totally different from each other as well as totally different from Maxis' skins on the same facial structure.

I don't like color-themed residential lots or apartments. No offense to anyone who decorates like this, you do you, I just find it silly to have all the objects and decorations in every room of the house done in the same color. If I saw that in real life, I'd think the owners were nuts, but even with sims, I can't imagine every man, woman and child sim would want their toilet the same color as their bedding, fridge and living room rug.

If you desperately want to do this for the sake of designation, at least pick a theme color that's more subtle than the blinding school bus yellow and firetruck red tones.
