Intro: Hello everyone! This is my first story and...I'm a bit nervous about what everyone will think, but I guess it's better to try and see and not wonder about 'What if's all the time. I hope you enjoy the story and if you have any thoughts, feel free to tell me! :]

Prologue

Cornelius Dolle was a brilliant man of twenty one. He was already considered a man in his world and as such, had went to do what it was that a man had to do. He began courting women and soon found his heart stollen away by the beautiful Lorena who was the village's golden charm. The two fell madly in love with one another almost instantly and months later, the two were happily wed and moved into their new home.

There they spent their years together, desperately trying to start a family. However, with so many misscarriages, it seemed that the young family wasn't going to become what the two adults had wanted. Three years passing, the day finally arrived that Lorena was with child once again. Wanting to be hopeful, but not get his hopes high, he carefully took care of his wife the best he could, giving her everything that she wanted and needed. With all his hard work, it finally paid off when they welcomed to the world his little angel Amanda.

She was daddy's little jewel, the young girl growing up quickly to the fine age of six. Lorena couldn't be happier, glad to finally have the child that she always wanted. She knew that she had her take of misfortunes, but it seemed that life was turning around for them.

Sadly, their happiness wasn't going to last for very long. One early morning, Amanda had woken up in the middle of the night coughing. She had a sore thorat and the signs of a fever. Her body shivered all on it's own and everytime she coughed, it felt as if the young girl was about to lose her lungs. The floor was cold to her feet and everything seemed to be aching around her.

Worried, Lorena tried to take care of her child the best she could before she called the doctor. That very night, he diagnosed her with pneumonia. Knowing there wasn't much of a cure, the two parents anxiously tended to their daughter, doing everything that they could to get her better. They made her rest, giving her plenty of soups so that she would eat, but her health still seemed to decline.

Watching his daughter closely, Cornelius took the time every night to read to his little girl. He would read her all kinds of stories, of faries, witches, warlocks and even gremlins. They weren't scary stories of course, but amazing written books that showed off a world that could only become alive through imagination. The reading seemed to be helping after a few days, Amanda showing signs of approvement. However, everytime she took a step forward to recover, she would fall four steps back. Losing faith, Lorena quietly stepped out one night, sobbing since she didn't want anyone to see her.

Cornelius had followed her out, feeling his heart start to break at the state his wife was in. He had his own sadness to deal with, but he wouldn't let himself break. He had to be strong, for his family. His wife needed him and so did his little girl. "It'll be ok," he reassured the broken woman as he walked up behind her and turned her body to face him. "Don't cry," he whispered before he brushed some of her tears away. "She's going to make it. You have to think positive my love, positive." Peering down at his wife, he hugged her close, hoping that his words would help.

The hug was long and meaningful, something that Lorena had been needing. Drying her own tears, she managed a weak smile before going inside. She had tucked her daughter into bed, finally going to sleep for the night. Cornelius remained outside, watching the stairs as he made a silent prayer. He wanted their only child to live, only hoping that God would hear his plea and answer him.
Another week past and Amanda had slipped away from them. Cornelius had woken up early that morning to find his daughter laying peacefully on the bed, her features showing that she had passed on. At that very moment, he could do nothing but sob quietly as he took her into his arms and wept. He couldn't help it, the sadness cutting into his body as he sobbed and sobbed, careful not to wake his wife. When he was able to stand again, he stepped away from the bed and went to tell his wife the news.
Little Amanda was buried that evening behind their home. Lorena watched the whole thing, crying her eyes out as she stood infront of the new grave stone and let out her anguish in tears. It wasn't fair, none of this was, but there was nothing that they could do. They had lost their only child and she felt that she wouldn't be able to live on much longer.

Cornelius had stayed away, sitting in Amanda's room as the funeral went on. He couldn't bear himself to actually see his little girl be buried. It hurt too much at the thought and then to actually see the nightmare was something he couldn't do. Hiding his face in his hands, he took deep breaths to relax himself before he stared at the ground. He felt like an empty shell despite the fact that he wasn't alone, but he knew, that he was slowly losing his wife to this tragedy.

More time passed and soon another tragedy had struck. His wife had come down with the sickness as well, only putting up a fight for her life for a week before she too had passed away. Cornelius was left to grieve on his own, the pain of losing both his wife and daughter so soon cutting deep wounds into his heart. He instantly started to drink, taking anything that he could find. Old wine, new wine, anything that would make the pain stop was consumed. Normal people would've died of alcohol poisoning, but some how, the brunette was able to drink his whole cellar without dying.

He thought that it was a miracle that he was still around, but later on he would grow to know that it was the curse on his body that had kept him alive. Feeling the grip of sleep take him, Cornelius had passed out in the late afternoon infront of the two gravestones, sleeping hard and not aware of the changes that his body was going through. What the brunette had missed was that one of the bottles he had drunk, was vampire's blood. The rich substance would turn anyone into the eternally damned and Cornelius was no exception. When the night had fallen along with the new moon, the young man had woken to a new world all together.

With keen vision, sharp fangs and the hunger of blood, Cornelius soon learned of the new hardships that he would have to experience, his cold heart turning into stone as he learned that he wasn't able to die. He would never be able to be with his family. Living on through the years, he promised himself that he would never love again, never get close to no one so that he wouldn't feel such pain. He had managed to do this thus far, however, all of that would suddenly come crashing down when he would meet the new girl who currently decided to move down the street from him.
