Default The Sims 2 + Pets Expansion vs The Sims Pet Stories
I have TSPS, and are there anythings better or worse about it than having Sims 2 and Pets EP?

Things Pet Stories has that Pets EP hasn't:
*Dog shows
*Training equipment and equipment skills for dogs
*A SRO with which you can control pets without cheats
*More SROs for pets, but with no new function

Things Pets EP has that Pet Stories hasn't:
*Werewolves
*Atomic furniture (I believe so)

And SRO is short for story reward object.

Plus Sims 2 + Pets EP has a patch that fixes a glitch so that a Sim's career isn't affected if they get a career for their pet, but Pet Stories does not. It ticked me off that there was no fix for Pet Stories so that Stephen would not drop several job levels in free play just because he got his cat a job. The same thing happened to Stephen's cop friend (I forget his name right now) He got a cat in free play mode, and his job level dropped several levels when he got the cat a job.

I heard there's no elder life stage in Pet Stories.

That's true. There is no elder stage, but I was never able to get very far in free play mode to find out what happens after the Sim gets to the end of their Adult stage.

You get a message that your adult will die in a day (or a few days) and that you should make them happy at the end of their life... if I remember correctly. Something along those lines. But the game does inform you that the Adult will die.

I have no idea why the Elder stage doesn't exist, nor the absence of werewolves. I know it was optimized for laptops, but still, Castaway Stories had a lot of content, even weather, so I can't imagine that being the reason.

Haha this is off topic a little, but we ARE talking about weather... In Castaway Stories, it was raining when the festival happened, and the natives were all in the hot tubs then. 8/9 of the natives got zapped by lightning, including my (still crispy) date! It was a very strange wedding...

For me I put the Pet Stories hoods into my Sims 2 game and it worked with no problem at all. You will need to either renumber them or take out N001, N002 and N003 for them to work. Some walls and floors are missing but they do work in the Sims 2/Pets EP game. If you replace N001 hood in Pet Stories with a base game Pleasantview you will have all the elders as elders in the game.

I can't remember if that was fixed in Pet Stories, but in Life Stories you can't take pictures normally by pressing C. You can't even take them abnormally with the printscreen button, because the sim panel below would not get removed. Now maybe that sounds irrelevant, but for me that made TS2 much more preferable than Stories, I do take an occasional picture... The Stories are super fast, though.

And Mesa Flats was made of win!

Marka, what happened to all the pet equipment that doesn't exist in TS2? Like training devices, competition stuff, etc.

Babahara if it is not in Sims 2 then it will not show up.

Basically, if you choose to play TSPet Stories, then you ill miss out on a lot of stuff. If I list you the things in a table, the things you will miss out the most are on the TS2 game plus all the expansions and stuff packs.

Marka, that's cool, I couldn't resist so I installed Pet Stories promptly and did the same as you! *bounces happily*

Now I feel a great urge to add these hoods as subhoods to my Uberhood instead, hopefully it will not explode.

Well I also would like to add any hood you make using just the base game and number them to N001, N002 and N003 will work in both Life Stories and Pet Stories games.

Both Life Stories and Pet Stories games can be played on a lot of low end laptops so this way you can play all 3 Sims 2 base game hoods.

The best things about Pet Stories are certainly the training skills and pet shows but there are also some items from the game that aren't available in The Sims 2 Pets.
You can get conversions here: http://s22cdb.livejournal.com/tag/---pet%20stories
And also, I remember not being able to finish a certain task in Stephen's story due to a bug.

My recommendation is that you play both Pets and Pets Stories if you have the chance.

I tried to download sims from there, but that requires having a yahoo account. I think I'd rather clone them myself than get yet another unneeded email account.

You mean the link in my post? It's a database and stuff.
Must be the site itself, but I'll try to get the links for you.

EDIT: Ok. Just uploaded a .rar to Mediafire :P
There are also instructions on how to get the Pet Stories neighbourhoods in The Sims 2.

Tell me if you have any problems.
Haven't tested those yet but I'm sure they are alright.

Thank you! Yeah that's one link from all I've tried. The database is very nice on its own, everything is sorted out.

That said, I think I won't take a risk to use these sims. If those were face preset packages, I'd run them through Bodyshop just in case. But those files unpack into the teleport folder and their format is strange. I suppose these sims probably all have their skills and everything set and are ready to use, but I'm too paranoid. Who knows if they were properly cleaned. I'd rather manually clone them.

Oh, I understand.
I still think you could use the Pet Stories neighbourhoods though... or not.
There might be a few bugs.

I've already copied Pet Stories' hoods over as subhoods for my Megahood, only some sims are left to copy over. Now it really bugs me that I can't easily do the same with Life Stories' Bitville. Whatever possessed Maxis not to include its terrain file with the game...
