Default Poor neighborhood, holes in lots, lag, and more ...
Hello.

I can get along playing happily with these glitches, but it would be better to get rid of them.

The first thing is the neighborhood. picture
My settings, I set it like this, but I don't know why the shadows and edge smoothing are gray, and why is shadows automatically high if I have graphic problems??

Concrete and earth terrain neighborhoods appear like grass picture
Downtown: picture

Next problem.. I had this too when I had castaway stories or life stories installed, but I removed them, because I don't feel like playing with them, I don't want them to occupy space.
When I make a wall or fence or add wallpaper and floor tile.

Problems with water: picture

Shadown should not look like this: picture
And when I click on something in buy or build mode, it lags, now this is annoying! Building takes much more time. And the game also lags when I click on the arrow to get to the next page of furniture. Switching between the pages of wallpapers and floor tiles are the worst. It also lags when I click on a object to see it's description and change it's colors.
In CAS mode when I switch between hairs, clothes, glasses, facial hair, the lag also exists. But it's like when the game needs to recognise new CCs: when I switch to the 2nd page, it lags, but when I switch to the fifth, then back to the second, it does not lags, because the game recognised the "new" stuff, which is not new actually, because the game does this when there are only maxis clothes. But it is less irritating than the buy mode lag. The lag also happens when I click on the mirror to change a sim's apperance and switch between hairs. It also lags when I buy new clothes. But in both CAS and mirror, when I switch between makeup pages it does not lag.

These lags did not happened with castaway or life stories I installed a stories game after I played many times with Sims 2, and the lag still does not exists in a stories game, just in The Sims 2.

But loading screens are not very very slow.

Glasses problem:
Annoying problem.. but most sims doesn't share this problem. picture

Another lag problem. When I click on another sims' avatar, the game lags, but there are rare times when not. When a sim's avatar is changing (he changes clothing or gets sunburn), the game also lags. And when I click on the relationship panel, and when there a sim's avatar switches place in the relationship panel with another sim's avatar.

--------------
I play on a laptop.

Even though the Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000 maybe able to handle Sims 2 it is not recommended for play with it.

You need to turn all the setting as low as they can go or you will burn up your laptop.

You also have the blue water straw grass problem where the game does not recognize you video adapter and by fixing this you may get better graphic for the game.

Is it possible that your laptop has two graphics devices? Some newer laptops have an integrated chip for "everyday" things like word processing and internet browsing as well as a dedicated card for more graphics-intensive things like games. If that's the case, then you'd need to make the game use the graphics card and not the chip. But if you don't have a dedicated card as well...Then yeah, what marka93 said.

Marka93, I have read about that before, that is why some things are set to low, but texture detail to medium. Should I turn off the mirror reflections ? The shadows are on high and I can't change it, it's grayed out.

iCad, how can I know that? I mean, where can I see if I have two graphics devices?

I've never owned such a laptop, myself, so I can't tell you for sure, but I would assume that if you went into the machines Device Manager via the Control Panel (Assuming that there's still a control panel in Windows 10; the newest Windows version I've used is 7) and look under Display Adapters, you'd see two devices there if you have both an integrated chip and a dedicated card. Or, you could probably look at your user manual (which would also tell you how to direct your machine to use a given device for a given program, if your machine has such a configuration). Or, if all else fails, Google your specific machine's make/model and find a specifications list for it.

Dual graphics cards http://modthesims.info/t/481768 if you have dual.

Once this is fixed then you need to add your card to the game. Go here to start http://www.leefish.nl/mybb/showthread.php?tid=5446

Oh, hi. It works well for me if I don't have Apartment Life installed, but if I have, the graphics still look like this, even though I have a different laptop.

are you sure that HD 4000 is even recognized? Post, please, your log, AFAIK the newest recognizable by the game Intel chip was HD 3000 (Sandy Bridge).

You definitely should not torture that poor guy with Win10 atrocity. If it's not an option to use RealOperatingSystem(TM) or roll back to W8, at last try to put another 4GB RAM if it's possible. You're simply choking that machine to death, there is no RAM to use, especially if you did not (or do not know) how to deal with W10 - or in general: Windows as the line - nonsenses.

In the case of integrated GPUs double channel RAM is crucial, the potential power loss reach even 20% in many circumstances.
And this is not for debate: you *need* more RAM, the iGPU "steals" memory from the main one so, even if you set up it as bare minimum for comfort (512MB) you have 3.5 GB for the system (~1.5 GB and more depends of scenario), so you're left with ~2GB for the game *and any other service or software running*.

And according to the settings (if the GPU is/will be recognized):

shadows: disable or only minimal (it eats CPU cycles in tremendous way, you do not have much power to spare);
object detail/sims: medium (may be high if you do not use new overcomplicated CC);
lights: low/medium (with disabled shadows it does not impact performance that much);
reflections: better off (it's killer for the low level GPU because of the way it's implemented in game);
texture detail: medium/high (if you do not use new, overflashy CC with absurdly large textures, it does not impact performance seriously if you keep the textures in the game's own range ~512);
AA ("edge smoothing"): off (you do not have power for this);
resolution: keep possibly native for the display or dial one step down if really necessary (it's huge performance factor - but also comfort and quality of life one);
