This user has the following games installed:

Sims 2, University, Nightlife, Open for Business, Pets, Seasons, Bon Voyage
Default Access violation crashes on buying pets
Hi. I have all the expansion packs except Free Time and Apartment Life. The game has been working great, however, since I upgraded to Windows 8 Pro from Windows 7 Home Premium the game has been crashing about once an hour with access violation errors in the errors log. This happens either randomly about once an hour or so or when buying a pet. I've tried running the game in compatibility mode with Windows 7 and also deleting all my CC, however, no luck. Have an error log:

I have a System76 Gazelle Professional with Intel Graphics HD 4000, Intel Core i7 (Ivy Bridge), 8GB RAM, 128GB SSD (unused), 750GB HDD.

Unfortunately, the crash log tells us nothing except that the game is trying to access memory which doesn't belong to it. In other words, it's very confused.

That said, I believe that I know at least part of what your problem is. Your computer is completely inadequate to play the game. For example, you don't have a graphics card. Here are some FAQs which explain the problem and give you suggestions on how to avoid crashing. That said, every time that you play the game, you could be damaging your computer. Your best option is to get a real graphics card.

I know that some people have also been having problems playing the game with Windows 8, so that could be a part of your problem.

As I said, the game worked fine on Windows 7 on the same machine, and also it worked on my 7 year old computer, so I don't see how the graphics could be a problem. I am also not getting any of the graphical artefacts described in the article.

You might could tow a trailer behind your compact without a tow rig just fine, too, until the weight tears your bumper off.

Your 7-year-old computer may have had a graphics card adequate to play the game. The age doesn't matter so much as the load it was designed to bear - a three-year-old 100-pound test rope will carry a 75-pound load better than a brand-new 50-pound-test rope. And the computer may be working so hard to give you decent graphics that it's overheating the unit, and the addition of Windows 8 incapatability problems may have been the straw that broke the camel.

Reality is not under any obligation to make sense to you, I'm afraid. Mootilda knows whereof she speaks and the information in the FAQs is the result of real experience. We are sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but once you know the worst, you can go about fixing it and come back better, stronger, faster, and wiser.

I thought the probelm with windows 8 was more getting it to install in the first place than play. The graphics card PROBABLY isn't responsible for this particular issue but is deifintely a problem when it comes to playing the game.
