Hi guys, I've got an odd problem with one of my sims.
He wants to get engaged to his long-time girlfriend - sounds simple enough right? Wrong! Turn's out, he's already engaged to someone else - I wouldn't have known this if I hadn't noticed the engagement ring on his finger. The weird thing is, he has NO MEMORIES of the person he's engaged to, nor does he have any memory what-so-ever of being engaged. I don't remember having him propose to anyone, and he's never had any romantic relationships with any NPCs or townies (his girlfriend is one of the sims I control/created). There are only 2 things about this particular sim that are different from all the other player-controlled sims in my game: 1) He's adopted and 2) He's at Uni - but so is his girlfriend, and I've never had any problems getting my other student sims engaged to one and other.
Has anyone got any idea as to what's wrong or how to fix it?

P.S. I have checked all my CC and have run the game without it and still the problems sits there, so I don't think the CC's got anything to do with it.

Have you looked at all the Sims he knows to see if one of them have the engagement with, if no one shows up there can you use SimPE and look at ever Sim to see which one he is engage to.

Push comes to shove you can use the "boolprop testingcheatenabled true" cheat and right click on the mail box and select "set romantic relationship with" that sim and that should fix it.

I have checked all of the sims he knows in the relationship/social panel and none of them have the engagement symbol on their stats. Also, I flat-out refuse to use SimPE on my system because the last time I installed it, it destroyed my game to the point where it wouldn't even get past the EA logo without crashing.
I'm glad you suggested the boolprop-mailbox route though, I hadn't thought of that. Thanks for the advice.

The only way SimPE could do that is you did it with SimPE. There is the option in SimPE to make a back up before you start using it on a hood and that would have fix any thing bad you did to it.

I have since tried the boolprop-mailbox method, it did absolutely nothing to my sims, he still has the engagement ring on his finger. And I'm unwilling to try SimPE as it simply does not work with my laptop. Thanks for the suggestions anyway. Any other thoughts? Anyone?...

Also, through use of the 'phonebook' item (downloaded from this site, naturally, created by Phaenoh) I have checked ALL of the sims in my hood and none of them have the 'engaged' ring or the love-heart icon, other than his partner (who only has the love-hearts).

You could use a mod like the SimBlender to set a (preferably neutral) sim as spouse and remove these ties afterwards. That might clear this engagement.
