Should Sims 4 take place 50 years after Sims 3?
Sifting through wiki articles about the Sims brand, I think it's obvious Sims 4, if indeed it comes out, should fall into the Sims timeline 50 years after the events of Sims 3. Remember, Sims 2 took place 25 years after Sims 1, and Sims 3 is 25 years before Sims 1.So, rather than go backward again in the Sim Universe, we need to go forward. Some "continuity" that could be carried over are the Simbots, looking fairly much like a Sims version of Data from Star Trek, or the androids from the movie AI. Or even akin to the droid bodies from I,Robot, which one simmer actually made skins of for Sims 2, so it can be done. Other stuff could have monkey wrenches thrown in.......make the descendant of Crumblebottom this overly nice caring woman, heh. Have a relative of Bella Goth looking for her husband. Have the Broke family be filthy rich now. Any other ideas, or do you agree or disagree with my timeline idea?

If we go 25 years after Sims 2, we will have lost all the iconic families. The only ones left would be the offspring, like Alexander Goth, Cassandra, and the Broke boys. But, here's the thing, the Goth, for some reason have became the centre of the universe. The Bella/Mortimer story has been going on since the beginning, if we go forward 25 years from TS2, EA won't be able to cash into the nostalgic aspect. Think of the lost Simoleans.

I like your idea.. It makes me wonder, if they would ever do this, how the scenery would look? Futuristic? (i hope not! O_e)
Who knows..EA could create their own version of "futuristic"

So you think TS4 should take place at the same time as TS2? Maybe. Though I'd rather it take place around the same time as TS3 or TS1.

I honestly haven't given much thought to TS4 at all. TS3 still has a lot of room left for improvement, and there's still probably 6 EPs to go, not including Generations, which will come out soon and is the 4th EP.

The time line doesn't matter as much anyway if you play other towns besides Sunset Valley.

IMO they'll probably remake Simsville from TS1 for TS4.

For some reason to me, Sims 1 always seems to have come after Sims 2 in terms of an established timeline. There are so many advanced aspects of the game atmosphere that make sims 2 seem dated or placed in a time before Sims 1. From the players perspectives, it may look primitive and outdated, but within the game universe, I feel that some features in Sims 1 put the game far ahead in time than the other two:

-Children and Adults never age(prolonged aging)
-Robotic movements akin to Androids or Genetically Enhanced Beings
-Military Government that will take your child and place them in military school if they do not keep a certain grade point average. You wont see again either
-Socialist Economy where all or most of the consumer products are produced by mega companies or a Government mandated operation
-There is no such thing as a weekend. Work and School is to be attended everyday or else

I'm sure there are more examples, but this is just what I could think of off hand. Now, the features may not be necessarily good, but they do seem like something in a futuristic setting

Sounds like a rather dystopian future.

Although remember that in TS1, you could miss every other day of work without any penalty. Although the lack of weekends in TS1 was one of the things I really disliked about it.

First, to correct a little misunderstanding, Sims 4 would take place 25 years after Sims 2. And yes, Ani, I somewhat understand your predicament, but we kinda faced the same deal when we were presented with Sims 3...we only had a handful of sims we were used to, and everyone else was new. For Sims 4, here's one way they could play it out, with some of the people from Sims 2.

Cassandra Goth eventually married, had kids with, then divorced Don Lothario (both elders)
Alexander Goth is the new Goth looking for marriage. (adult)
Brandi Broke is the new "Crumblebottom" type
Brandi's kids now have their own lives/houses
The Lothario/Goth kids are young adults just starting on their own

And so forth. Just by going to the Sims Wiki, you can kinda see a storyline for Sims 4 being set in motion.

I think that should TS4 come to fruition, they should just separate it from any semblance of the generations from TS1-TS3. It's not as if they keep track of continuity (e.g. Kaylynn Langerak is older than Mortimer Goth), and the lack thereof certainly hasn't stopped them from making little Easter egg-references to famous Sims (e.g. the Where's Bella? book in TS3). Nor has their variance in generations had any effect on the environment of the game: each iteration has been a reflection of contemporary technology + some oddball devices thrown in (Servos, VR goggles, weather machine, etc), so there's nothing particularly compelling on that front.

I dunno, they've done the timeline thing (semi-badly) for 3 games now, and I feel like pushing it into a fourth would be silly.

You have no idea how badly I want that. I want to play with Alexander Goth as an adult. I want to see Casandra have kids and save Lillian from being an utter failure at life!

You're totally right. But I think that at the same time we will still have some of the people we cherished. In the Sims 2 we watched Cassandra, Alexander, the Pleasant twins, Beau, etc. grow into adults. We shaped their lives and got them through the thick and thin. So if and hopefully when we are reunited with them in The Sims 4 so many of us would appreciate that.

Personally I disliked playing with only the Sims 2 adults as Sims 3 kids/young adults. It felt wrong to me because I knew how their lives were supposed to end up (if you will). We never knew how the kids would end up. We got to decide.

And I would love to play with them.

I would like TS4 to take place between TS1 and TS2, or maybe a bit after TS2. I don't think I would want it ahead of TS2 by as much as 25 years; the most I would like would be about 5.

EAxis will most likely try and find a timeline that will keep Mortimer and Bella Goth alive, since they've been in every Sims base game and are arguably the most "iconic" characters of the series. And even though I don't play the premades all that much, I would be disappointed to find a few of the ones I really like dead/not existing.

I said it in a different thread, but since this is focusing on Bella/Mortimer, I'll reiterate. I think the next game should have the Goth children as adults and move the story arc forward. BUT when they move into Goth Manor, Bella and Mortimer are haunting the place as ghosts, thereby giving players the opportunity to resurrect them from the dead. Best of both worlds.

Well, someone pointed out on another thread,& re-reading the wiki articles,we do have a gap of 25 years to explain between Sims 1 & Sims 2.So that could be a possibility as well.

I want the Sims 4 to be an updated version of the sims 1 or or 2 as far as timing goes, they do keep talking about "going back to the roots", so having the characters be the same ages, or similar ages to one of those two would make sense.

I would like it if people would stop with this "timeline" garbage. They all take place in bubbles riding on giant turtles' backs, completely isolated from eachother.

But on a more serious note, the only neighborhoods to follow any kind of even remote timeline is Old Town/Pleasantview/Sunset Valley/ what ever they decide to change the name and design to next, and even then, there is practically no consistency because of how the game works. In The Sims, everytime I played the Goths, Mortimer would die, and Bella would burn to death, making the events of Pleasantview impossible. Then with the Sims 3, Mortimer and Bella never end up together.

Point is, the only reason EA pulls the "timeline" card, is to explain bringing recurring characters into their new starting neighborhood.

I personally hope it's all new characters. With no reminders of the old sims. A completely new game. I'll prepare myself for all the "disagrees" lol

It would be interesting to have some continuity - IN ONE HOOD! But I would like to see 2 or 3 OTHER premade hoods that were totally different: like one with dirt roads and primitive houses and families. I wish they would figure out how to keep those hoods, and their stock and CUSTOM "Downloads" SEPERATE. So townies (clothes, etc) that show up in the primitive hood would not show up in other hoods. Ah, well, dream on.

I expect another version of Sim2+Sim3+new stuff that doesn't amount to much. I.E. - not a game I will bother with.

Stand up, speak out. Just not to me..

They could make it so all adult characters in TS2 are presented as elders in TS4. Cassandra, Don Lothario, the Caliente sisters, Brandi Broke and the Pleasants are all elders and we can see how their stories/families evolved. They could even include Mortimer as a very old sim with only a few days left to live. This way they wouldn't lose all the iconic families and characters.

Hey, there's an unexplained gap of over two years between when this thread started and Kcroxr's post

There's a TS4 subforum now, and I guess it's time for this thread to go there, but just a reminder guys, except when there's something specifically relevant in an old thread, generally better to start a new one than to engage in thread necromancy :p

As much as the Goths are the iconic characters of the franchise, I think that if the developers had to pick one to keep, they'd pick Bella. There's the whole air of mystery surrounding what happened to her in TS2, but she's also made an appearance in pretty much every single game. There are even paintings and statues of her.

I think (and think is the key word here) that we're pretty much guaranteed to see Bella Goth again. At the very least.

Besides -- speculation is that the person on the far right of the "eyes" preview could be her. I dunno, though. That's just speculation. But regardless of that, we're probably going to have AT LEAST a mention of the Goths, if not one or several of the family members.

What storyline? Except for my personal Veni Vidi Vici the neighbourhood with a couple of routing tantrums.
