Default What are your favourite custom worlds?
So this isn't me asking for recommendations, and this isn't a general discussion thread for custom worlds, but it's also kinda both.

I was taking another look at Sunset Valley the other day and realized it's actually quite a good world. I like the size, I like the style, I like the mood. If it didn't only use basegame content, and if it were a little more detailed, I'd be starting a new save in it. But since I've never been huge on custom worlds, I couldn't think of anything like it. I found Northerney here on MTS and it looks incredible, and I'm definitely going to try it, but it's more of a traditional-style world, and a European one at that. I've grown partial to the Eastern USA style of several of the classic EA worlds and it seems there's a lot of custom worlds that also have this same sort of setting.

So I was wondering, what have I missed out on? I'm a bit fixated on the calm suburb-type world here but I've already seen lovely worlds set in every part of the world, in every area, in every biome and I'm undoubtedly unaware of a bunch more.

I love Northerney's Icelandic feel, but that world has never played well for me. I thought it would've 'cause there is no roads so no Big Lemon and Taxi bloat, but I guess the lots are just too detailed for my comp to handle. Meh.

I haven't honestly found many worlds that I like 'cause to me it's about more than the look and feel of the world but also the performance and user-friendliness. I actually like many of the EA worlds but I agree with the lack of updating them. I really wish EA would've updated them with the EPs. So if you'd install Supernatural you'd get an updated world file and see the SV lots use some objects from the pack. It would've made them feel more dynamic. EA/Maxis already did this before in the series with the packs for the first game, so I don't think it would've been hard to do. It would've just really been rather time consuming instead.

I have grown a fondness for the Strangetown remake and the small Amberville custom worlds. They play well and have their own unique content and feel akin to how the store worlds were. I used to like Setra, but the more I played it the more I didn't like the focus on modern architecture nor the layout very much. My tastes have changed in the last year and I'm more a Victorian and Edwardian guy now. I've had many problems with the MSR worlds that I gave up playing them. The MSR worlds are also never updated so routing problems never get fixed and the add-on lots for those worlds never integrated into the main world file. I don't like the concept of having to download custom lots for AMB, LN, etc. for a world. Once the lots are finished they should be included in the main world file in an update so it's easy to plug and play. I also don't like worlds that don't come with pre-mades. It's also a plug and play thing. Getting the world functional and populated should be on the creator not the user.

That's one of the biggest faults of TS3. How everything is segregated like some 1940's American schoolhouse. How ITF doesn't even have a futuristic fire department. So the player can't play a fireman in the future without the whole system feeling out-of-place because of old style firetrucks or how no lots past AMB get auto-added to EA worlds. The travel functionality was introduced in the first EP and EA could've expanded upon that and let the player travel between game worlds. Yes I'm aware that NRaas has a mod for that but it's a feature so obvious that it is surprising EA didn't expand upon it.

Anyway, I've been tempted to give these two a try, but they look like they'll have a lot of routing problems. I may just download the second one so I can copypasta some of the lots into Midnight Hollow.

If you like SV. Or maybe alter in CAW as wanted?

Also if you check, there have been threads here already about fave custom worlds and with pages and pages of replies.

Also, maybe check with Heaven to see how this is coming along. It has a New England vibe to it.

Heaven's world looks good but I think it's a little too large. I've played with Cladbridge on Stowe in the past; it's nice but not what I'm looking for right now. That Fortress Rock world has some really nice highrises, I think I'll get that just to I can duplicate those lovely old-school towers. I think I'm just going to go with Northerney for now because my deadline for finding a world was yesterday. It's the only one detailed enough for what I want to do.

I used Newark Banks as an eastern coastal town, only problem is the buildings are all shells so you have to decorate them yourself

That one's quite lovely as well, might get it in case Northerney isn't entirely suitable.

There was a thread here, some of the worlds are ancient, but it should be pretty comprehensive:

Northeney is really beautiful but it's quite large and everything is very spread out except for the little town area which I love. Really love that ship lot on the one side..but it's so far away from the rest of the population. And the science place, too, is really neat. I waited so patiently for this world to release and then it was a bit of a let down once it was installed on my pc. I'm not sure why - perhaps just the overall size of it? Maybe the fact that there are no roads? Not sure...

I tried most of the worlds at mysimsrealty and although they are well made and have alot of different versions they just didn't thrill me. Except for Redwood Harbor.
The houses are uninteresting and they all kind of look alike - both the houses and the terrain. Don't get me wrong - I appreciate all the work that was put into those worlds and I always recommend them when someone is looking for worlds..

Cladbridge on the Stowe falls into the same catagory as Northeney - too large and too spread. If I recall the houses/lots are huge and kind of all very similar. I'm not sure if it's an original world but it reminds me of Riverview in the way it's layed out. From a distance it looks really, really pretty. I could be getting this mixed up with Rinn Fada.....

I looked at an early, non-playable version of Heaven's Greymont Bay and once again it's much, much too large and too flat. Her lots are gorgeous tho and the world itself is nicely decorated. I do keep my eye on the progression of her world as well as Nilxis' world (a behemoth but so, so, interesting).

I've downloaded more custom worlds then I care to admit. I only have a very few that have stayed installed. I've searched and searched for that perfect world or as near perfect for my own tastes. Or not even perfect but just something apart from the usual. Something interesting. I think there might be a handful of worlds still installed out of the dozens and dozens that I've looked at (including all those worlds for horses that have 20 - 64x64 lots and mostly nothing else but fencing and trees - pretty, but not really too much of a world IMO).

I have tried making my own world - I failed miserably. I am better at editing and fixing up worlds and lots then I am at building them to begin with. My create a world folder is chocked full of all of my attempts at world creation and there they will probably stay. I am passionate about fixing routing...I could do that all day! Some of the routing I've encountered is atrocious.

I do have Daisylee's Greek Island still on my computer. https://forums.thesims.com/en_US/di...greek-island/p1 It's beautiful, original and different. The links for the download on that forum do not work. If you search here at MTS there is thread about the world with a link to the download. Hopefully it still works.
Gunkan Island https://www.thesims3.com/assetDetai...assetId=6093237 is on my pc because it's also very different. Very neat. Based on a real world place. Kind of too big ..but it's a keeper.
Ériu Fé http://maggiesims.tumblr.com/post/1...beta-only-a-few It's really cute..but I had to edit it. Full of CC also. Routing was bad and the roads were a mess. Only way to get this world is to ask someone who has it already to share it.
Vintage Champs Le Sims - http://franglishetchocolat.tumblr.c...gechampslessims - I've not had time but to look briefly at it....I would like to build a bunch of lots for it. It's like a million times better then the orginal.

And now .... drumroll .... best world for me that I've found after years of searching... (Also full of cc and slightly edited by me and taking no credit for the world.)....Marburry. https://i.imgur.com/QDB2i0p.jpg I've been working on this world for about a year and half. It came partly empty. I love it..it's my all time favorite. http://www.beautysims.de/forum/foru.../5704-marburry/
http://www.beautysims.de/forum/file.../1006-marburry/

I'm including 2 more worlds. And I'm not sure if the downloads still work but you can view images here. http://www.simforum.de/showthread.php?t=188619
These are both beautiful and complex worlds. And I've only briefly looked at them in game. They are very large (and empty) so not even sure if I want to mess with them but I've had them saved in my folder of all the worlds I've collected over the years (that are remotely worth hanging onto).

I would like to add that I am really impressed and appreciative of all the world creators, custom content creators and everyone that still has an interest in the Sims 3. I am just giving my personal opinion here and not out to hurt anyone's feelings and if I have...I do apologize. :lovestruc

I am a PITA about worlds so I tend to make my own to get what I want. I have a major redo of Redwood Harbor almost done and also a world I call Ancient World in progress. Almost done also. I have probably looked at 100 worlds and looked at about half of them in CAW. One I liked enough to spend time redoing and playing a bit is Pouwenea or whatever it is called. But it is not New England-ish at all. I like medium the best as enough room to include what I want and not filled with excess I do not want/need. And I like reasonable travel times also.

Thank you for the mention of my Greek Island one. Not NE at all though either. I started a larger version of that with another 2 islands but may never finish. I probably will never upload them again though as heavily dependent on SimsLulamai items and that site is gone.

I really like Sunset Valley too. I really like the look of many custom worlds, but for some reason I then don't like them a lot when playing them (too big, too somber, too whatever). I remember there was an adapted Sunset Valley, with more lots. Better suited if you play with a lot of expansion packs. But I can't find it anymore.

The creator of Fortress Rock has a few other amazing, highly-detailed, rich worlds, Grey Meadow and Vvargfell (?) are my favorites. They perform okay for me with a little help from NRAAS, I recommend them fully.

Other than that, I agree that Strangetown is a lovely world to play. It's large, fully-playable and has so much character.

And lastly, Angel City (smaller version of Los Aniegos) is an amazing LA-styled world which has been optimized to perform better than Los Aniegos.

I've played in Las Aniegos. Now this was well over 5 years ago and about a decade ago in terms of hardware but it was a living hell to run. Took 15 minutes to load, framerate was in the low single digit territory, and it often crashed within minutes. And this was with NRaas and everything. So if Angel City runs well, the guy must've done an amazing job at it.

There are though plenty of complete expansion&stuff packs upgrades made by players to sunset valley to choose from and download.

P.S. Sorry for my bad english.

Ooooh you really should consider releasing an extended version of Greek Island. That was the best Mediterranean hood until Emporda came along. I love the slope effect of the town and those lovely white lots at the highest points were an absolute dream to look out on. I know properties in Spain that are just like that. I ultimately removed it from my game because it was too small. I think you underestimate how good that town actually was.

OMGosh I am blushing. I should play with it again someday or at least give my current CAW files to someone who wants to work on it. I added another fairly large island and then a small one with a lighthouse. It was a very fun place to build. I will have to get back to it someday. Built more lots on the new island and then somehow that save was lot.

I think the Greener Lucky Palms was by far my favorite, it just looked so good in greenery rather than a desert setting. But that's just me. I really enjoyed populating that world with some of my favorite characters.
