You select the 3/4 views from the Windows menu.
You can click in a panel, and use a wheel mouse to zoom in/out. Zoom faster by holding the shift=key down.
Use ctrl-click with the left buttom to move a view up or down.
Right-click and you can select (among other things) Frame Selection or Frame All.

Something I was surprised to find that almost no one knows about - you can select/unselect in MilkShape's 3d window too. Just put on the wireframe overlay, or set it to show the wireframe image - then hold down [alt] while selecting. You can't see the box being dragged, but other than that it is the same as selecting in any other of the views.

Couple of things I didn't see mentioned: Right click in the window you are working in and select maximize, it will then go to one big window. And hold down the shift key and the left mouse button while moving the mouse cursor up and down in the window for zooming in and out. Control and left mouse button will move the object up and down in the window.
When you're done you can right click and select maximize again and it will go back to the window viewports you had before.
