Default [moved] using bodyshop to alter nonclothes-object textures
I was wondering if anyone tried the following:

we can extract .txtr file using game extractor 2.0 (or 0.93?!?)
we can put bmp's into a package using the bodyshop.

replace txtr in a clothing sims2pack with the txtr from the object you want to mod.

start a project, and modify the clothing object you just edited. the texture should now be extracted as BMP.

edit the BMP, compile the pacakage again using bodyshop, extract the txtr with gameextractor 2, and place it back into the object we wanted to mod.

I have no idea if this'd work, and cant test right now. But i sorta guessed that I'm not the first one who thought of this. Anyone got any experience in this?

I think that's how Merola64 recoloured the computer

I still didn't get a chance to try this out yet. It's a great project for people to work on. Try doing it for the Halloween decorations and see if you can jazz them up a bit

Hehe thanx a lot Merola, it worked perfectly..

I now have a computer working on Cold-Fusion.
You can download it at www.halfelf.com under misc

2 questions though..
Do you know where the colored cover for the keyboard is? Cause mine suddenly has black blotches over it.

And i tried looking through the files for a description, but havent been able to find that either. tried all the string files and the object definition. Anyone ran into them yet?

Amber, can you give a step by step on how you got this to work? Every time I try, Bodyshop doesn't show the modded clothing file. I get as far as replacing the txtr, but I can't find the modded file in Bodyshop. It just never shows.

I've followed Merola's instructions from another site..
It can be found here.

take note that you have to use the txtra file, not the txtr file.
For the clothing i used a simple dress, with only 1 texture. Once you replaced the file (which you have to create a new project for), the dress is black, not the texture you expected. once you look in the project folder, the correct file is there..

Odd thing, What i remember from merola's red version, was that it had all sorts of strange squares.. I had nothing of the sort. May have to do with the sort of clothing?!?

Hope this helps,
Amber

I would guess it is taken from somewhere in the colored parts of the comp texture. Maybe where you have added the "radioactive" mark, as the keyboard becomes black...

Carrigon & DarkNinja:
Maybe I will try to to write a better explanation of the BodyShop part of the color changing.

Nah, the radioactive marks are all inside other area's.

Methinks that the vertical Cold-Fusion may be the problem. Havent had the time to test this yet though...

Amber, they look like the same instructions I followed Still didn't work. It's something to do with Bodyshop not showing the clothing file once I've replaced the file.

Merola64 if you could do a clearer step by step, it might help. Thanks

Hi Carrigon.

What i did is as follows:

I used game extractot 1.5 to alter the object id in places 92 to 95 but write the old code down first. Then extract #0x7f917190!computertoweralienware-green.txtra.

I created a new project (a long purple dress), which i immedietly imported into the game under the name test. close bodyshop to release the lock on the file.

I found the package file in the downloads folder, en replaced the only texture there (##0x7f5a5760!body~stdMatBaseTextureName.txtra)
with the on i extracted from the alienware machine.

I started bodyshop again, created a new project from test, and called it test2. The purple dress was now entirely black.

I went to the project folder and found the texture i wanted to edit there. I adjusted the texture, and imported the project once again into the game.. close the bodyshop.

extract the texture from test2.
Open the alienware package, and replace the green textures with the ones you just extracted. ( i replaced both the one with the hexcode in front of it, and without, just the hexcode didnt seem to work, i only got the icon in the new color, not the rest.).

After that, restore the object if from92 to 95, and place your project in the downloads folder.

that did it for me...

Thanks I might have been replacing the wrong file. I'm not sure. I will save your instructions and try again later.

ok yea that might hepl i have gotten to the body shop part so far and have rewriten Merola64 tutorial to add things i noticed were different i guess i might as well post wat i have so far

1. Duplicate the object file you are opening just in case something goes wrong
2. If you are using the file you downloaded from the sims2 site then chances are it’s a .Sims2Pack if it is keep going if it’s a .package then you can skip to Step 4
3. Open the .Sims2Pack in your game extractor and you should see 1 file in this case alienWare.package, extract this then open this file in game extractor
4. Now you should have a huge list of files the file you must find and extract is the .OBJD, in this case and maybe all its called File 6.objd
5. Once this is extracted you must open it up in a hex editor I used HexEdit which can be found at __________
6. So at the moment you should have the .objd open in your hex editor, so go to view – display and click the tag decimal addresses this should make it easer. We are looking for the GUID of the object which is stored in byte 92 to 95 you can see it circled in the picture below
7. Just change this to what ever you want eg I changed 72 F4 2C 6E to 99 99 9F CE It can be changed to whatever you want, as long as it isn't used by any other object in the game I have no idea how to know so I just took a guess. Write the new one down. Save & close.
8. Now open the alienWare.package in the game extractor again and replace the File 6.objd with the one you just edited

oh and i added a pic that may help with the hex guid part

I got to the same step as Carrigon and had the same problem. I will give it another go this afternoon. Mind you, I had to take a crash course in Gameextractor and hex code to even start it Ya know Darkninja69 one of my problems was not changing to decimal in my hex editor so I am glad you stuck that in your walkthru :D

I had no trouble whatsoever opening the textures. What version of gameextrator are you using, and what piece of clothing did you choose?

I've continued skinning, and uploaded another object to this place. Since it ain't here yet, you can find it at www.halfelf.com under misc.

I've also updated the cold-fusion to custom descriptions, and a seperate ID. And i messed with the pie menu. Kept to the english and dutch languages though

If anyone is interested in knowing.....those steps work just as well on the lawn pumpkin. I gave mine a zebra striped hat.....just wanted to see if it would work and it did.

I did the same (adjust the pumpkin, not the zebrastripe) as you can read in my previous post.

but i got 2 screenshots now as well:

<img src='http://home.casema.nl/amber/cold-fusion-pie.jpg' alt='' style='vertical-align:middle; border:0' />

submitted both yesterday morning, hope they'll be up soon.
