af untucked Oxford / meshes from ClubCrimsyn

Date Posted: 4th Nov 2008 at 1:21 AM

I'm age converting my teen Oxford shirt for adults.
Need to make it fit over Maxis bottms (or HP's version thereof).
Most of those work fine, except for the long skirts and the jodhpurs.
I never use the jodhpurs anyway, don't care for the shape,
so thought I would default replace them. What do you think?

Here's the Oxford shirt so far, as you can see, the mesh still needs some work. Once it all looks good in BodyShop, I'll test in game and adjust bone weights so it moves properly. Then I can do the rest of the recolors. The lovely skirts shown are by Sentate. I may need to alter the longer one's tummy because making the shirt wider there would make the shirt look odd with other bottoms. Will see if Sentate will let me do that.

--------------------------------------------------------------

This entry is mostly notes to myself about what other folks are doing, so I don't reinvent the wheel.

Note to self, when making tf babydoll tops, keep in mind that there's already a nice looking mesh at ClubCrimsyn, in the meshes section, called TF-Top-TunicTop. Check to see if it works well with all Maxis bottoms... There's an adult version there too, and several other separates, including tm stuff and capris.

dustfinger has several teen separates at MTS2 and more in the works (pants), to be uploaded, so coordinate with her.

No recolors in 3 years?!

Why has no one recolored these meshes yet?
Or maybe this was before the "other recolors box" was added???

I have several projects almost done! Here's a preview...
These will be up after Oct 27th, when I get back from a conference.

Alpha Skirt - because I'm a perfectionist

Date Posted: 15th Oct 2008 at 5:42 AM

Having made an alpha skirt mesh, I now feel compelled to make many different examples of what can be done with said mesh. I still have several on my to do list, but here's the latest... I'm not uploading this anytime soon, am I? (see several previous journal entries)

tops by fishie, varicev, lolie2, and me

With some help from Delphy, got two images in a row, yay!
Use the img2 tag. Just like the img tag, but you have two images, each in its own img2 tags, both on one line, no line breaks.

Alpha Skirt : The Project That Will Not Die!

Date Posted: 13th Oct 2008 at 9:11 PM

This must be karmic punishment for my earlier hubris. I was so happy the meshing only took two days. Many, many days later, I'm still working on the damn alpha skirt. Bone assignments are done (see previous journal entry). Skirt textures aren't that hard, except for lining up the seams. But the shoes! I didn't want to make eleventy different meshes for each shoe. So I had to make the feet generic and make several different shoe textures. Can't just reuse Maxian shoes, they won't fit. Have to make them fit. Have to give them nice bump maps. Have to make sure each recolor has the correct shoe sound. And how much of this effort will downloaders appreciate? I'm guessing none of it. They'll just look at the skirt part and maybe think "pretty skirt, but looks copied from Maxis, bet that took five minutes", LOL!

alpha skirt almost ready

Date Posted: 8th Oct 2008 at 7:47 AM

Guess what's the hardest part of making an alpha skirt? Not the meshing. Not the alpha aware recolor. It's the #*!@$% bone assignments! Unlike Maxis skirt meshes, this one has a sims' legs, hips, and bum inside the skirt and I want them to *stay* inside the skirt when the sims moves. I'm glad to say the bum, hips, and upper legs now do so. As for the calves, I just couldn't get them to stay in, but they only matter for the longest skirts. For those skirts, I'll just paint the legs with skirt texture so the clipping is not obvious. My pain is your gain. I've been writing a tutorial and believe me, it has a bone assignment section now.

teen alpha skirt in the works...

Date Posted: 1st Oct 2008 at 4:14 AM

Here's a preview of my tf alpha skirt. The mesh is done, now I need to make some textures for it. This project is NOT what's been eating up my time. It only took two days, don't believe those who would tell you this stuff is impossibly hard. Go read HP's tutorial about adding groups. I'll write one later about alpha groups specifically, and how to make alpha clothing. The reason I haven't been uploading lately is I've been busy playing Arcanum, heh heh.

Hey Creators!
To easily make the "inside layer" alpha group in MilkShape, do this:

1) Make a copy of your "outside layer" alpha group.
This will be your "inside" group. Select it.
2) Face menu -> Reverse Vertex Order
3) Vertex menu -> Cat's Normal Smoother

This makes the normals point inside, not outside, after you reverse the faces.
These instructions are for a skirt with three groups, 1) legs, 2) skirt inside (alpha), 3) skirt outside (alpha).

Normal Smoothing Plugin #1, done!

Check it out folks! It smooths normals in a user selected area and doesn't bork them at mesh seams, yay!

Learning to make MilkShape plugins, wheee! :D

Date Posted: 15th Sep 2008 at 1:02 AM

This weekend, I'm learning to make MilkShape plugins, wheee! I love coding! Big thanks to wes_h for answering some questions for me, the Chumbalum SDK forum has been no help at all so far and documentation is lacking. Not blaming anyone, just saying that's how it is. On the bright side, the SDK code is quite readable and the data structures make sense.

Right now, I've got a working plugin that negates normals at selected vertices. I know, you could select faces and reverse vertex order and get something similar. Not the point. The point is, I can access normals at selected vertices and change them. Yay!

The eventual goal is a smoothing plugin that lets you change normals only at selected vertices (and/or faces) and handles seams correctly. Why? Because Smooth All with smoothing groups, while nifty, doesn't do what I need.

- Smooth All smooths everything. I don't want that. I want to just change the stuff selected and leave everything else as is, especially if the normals there are NOT supposed to make it look smooth!

- Smooth All breaks at seams. (arm seams, leg seams, side of clothing seams) That's because the faces at the seams are not actually connected, they just have coincident vertices. Smooth All only works at connected faces, not coincident vertices at the seams. And you do NOT want to weld them to make the faces connected or your UV map breaks.

I caved and got AL even though Maxis hasn't patched it yet (MATY & MTS2 did)

Date Posted: 12th Sep 2008 at 5:16 PM

I was going to hold out and NOT buy Apartment Life until EA/Maxis patched it. Their sloppiness and disregard for testing and for customers makes me rather angry. But then I made the mistake of getting the Prima Game Guide. What's this? Toddlers can huggle? Playground equipment! New dances! Sims in critical need failure don't stand around complaining until they die?! Instead they go eat or sleep or whatever they need to do to not die? I MUST HAVE IT! Hubby is buying it for my birthday, so *technically* I'm not supporting EA/Maxis. Um, yeah. Fight the power! (And while you do that, I'll sneak home and play AL with MTS2 and MATY patches...)

DONE, YAY!
- 5 recolors of fp7's peasant top
- kids cuffed pants (formerly girls cuffed capris)

IN MODERATION QUEUE

NEARLY DONE
- kids tops : henleys

CURRENT PROJECT(S)
- recolor fp7's ruffle skirt
- girls' tops: blouses with sleeves
- Bermuda length shorts for kids

ON THE TO DO LIST...
- kids tee with potted plant (Skyler's idea)
- chop up meshes in fp7s back to school, make girls cardigans, girls skirts, hoodies
- boys/girls layered top, do not duplicate fp7's neat work: boys, girls
- boys tank tops, use fp7 alpha, maybe make untuckables?
- age convert girls ruffle skirts and fp7 bow shirts for teens
- modify adult long skirt mesh for girls?
- fakepeeps7's sweater textures on KiaraRawks' sweater top mesh (used with permission)
- kids turtleneck top mesh, maybe two, tucked and untucked
- cable knit sweaters on my untucked mesh or a new turtleneck mesh
- kangaroo pocket longsleeves
- hoodie top mesh
- convert adult long skirt and/or Uni long skirt for girls
- bell sleeve hippie shirts and pants on faeriegurl's mesh
- recolor JasanaBugbreeder's totally amazing dress mesh (probably won't happen, may be beyond my abilities)

- plant sim clothes, Tig's loincloth mesh

and all those adult and building projects in previous posts...
