Information (Click for more details):
This is a Maxis Recolour which means that it is a recolour of an item that already exists in your game. Please check the Expansion pack requirements to see which game pack it recolours.
This is a new mesh, and means that it's a brand new self contained object that usually does not require a specific Expansion pack (although this is possible depending on the type). It may have Recolours hosted on MTS2 - check the sidebar.
This is a new mesh recolour, and means that you will need to download the particular mesh itself in order for this to show up in your game. See the Meshes Needed section or read the text for more information.
Title: The Flamingo of Dance
UPDATE August 4th, 2017
This update makes several improvements to student routing. For example, if a session is in progress seated around a table and there is a shortage of seating, Sims will stand rather than sitting on the floor.
Obscure Bugfix: July 24th, 2017
For users who have Bon Voyage but not FreeTime or any later EP, this release fixes a jump bug that would occur when the instructor tries to express an Enthusiasm, which is not supported for those who do not an EP any newer than Bon Voyage.
a) Inspired by the MTS Performing Arts Theme and dancing flamingos such as these, to create a half-size flamingo that would summon a a basegame Bartender or Maid, or a Tropical (Island Local) Sim, to work as a dance instructor, selectable by menu option.
b) To enable the instructor to teach Dance, Body and Creativity skills; increase Fitness, raise an interest in Culture, stimulate FreeTime Music and Dance Enthusiasm; and satisfy Comfort, Fun and Social needs.
c) To supply recolours for the basegame garden Flamingo.
The Flamingo is compatible with the podiums available in the Opportunity Pack Lectern, Reading Desk and Ravendancer projects.
The Flamingo of Dance is available from the Hobby/Knowledge and Decorative/Sculpture sections of the catalogue at a cost of §335. The mesh is based on and slaved to the basegame garden Flamingo.
Unlike the other objects in the Opportunity lecture series, please place the flamingo so that its "green arrow" faces the audience.
1) Flamingo of Dance - Learn to dance, and have fun doing so! Use this whimsical flamingo to invite an instructor to teach Dance, Body and Creativity Skills, increase Fitness, Culture Interest, FreeTime Music & Dance Enthusiasm and grade points, while satisfying comfort, fun and social needs.
A full teaching session lasts about four hours and consists of lecture segments interleaved with dance practice. Students are instructed in modern dance ("Rave"), but if Bon voyage is installed, Hula and Slap dance lessons are also available by menu option. The lecture segments increase Creativity skill, and to a small degree the Dance skills as well. The dance segments increase Body, Dance and Fitness skills. If the teacher is an Island Local then no dress code is required, otherwise all those involved will wear Formal attire.
The Flamingo will produce its own music to accompany the dance practice, but if the player wishes to use some other source then the Flamingo music may be switched off. In a Bon Voyage Tropical vacation neighbourhood, the Flamingo will default to playing Surf Music, with Hula lessons taught by a female Island Local. In a Mountain Lakes neighbourhood, the instructor will default to a male bartender or maid teaching Slap Dance using the World Music genre. In any other neighbourhood, the Flamingo defaults to Rave lessons accompanied by basegame Salsa - but if Bon Voyage is available, Hula or Slap lessons with Surf or World Music may be selected if desired.
A Sim who has at least three points of Body and Creativity skills, ten points of the generic Dance skill and three points of Slap and Hula skills may teach using the Flamingo, gaining Charisma and Body Skills in the process. If a selectable Sim attempts to teach but they are not fully qualified then their current qualification levels will be displayed.
The selected Sim may check their progress using the "View Dance Skill & Fitness" menu option. Unfortunately, due to a shortage of built-in animations, child and toddler Sims may only gain up to three points of Generic Dance Skills. However, children can become fully skilled in Hula or Slap Dance. Toddlers will only learn Generic Dance Skills, even if they are taking part in a Hula or Slap Dance session.
Students of Hula and Slap dance will satisfy the related learning wants, and earn the appropriate memory and Vacation Memento. Students of modern dance will satisfy "Dance With" wants, if the want refers to dancing with the instructor.
An Island Local who becomes a dance teacher will have maximized Hula, Rave and Slap dance skills, have a gold badge in Sales and a career in Dance (if FreeTime is available), Show Business (University or later) or basegame Athletics. Bartenders or Maids who teach dance are also fully qualified in the three dance skills, and like an Island Local, they are Enthusiastic in Music & Dance as well as Fitness.
The Flamingo is college accredited for those majoring in Drama, but regardless of what major they may be specializing in, attending a lecture at the Flamingo will grant college credits to all those registered in university. The Flamingo satisfies the "Practice Speech, "Read To" and "Be Read to by" wants.
College and school progress is displayed at the beginning and end of each student's learning session. If a school student earns an "A+", additional study will earn Extra Credits which allow a child or teen to take time off without losing a letter grade, or can be saved for advanced placement in college (up to one half term for 1000 points).
Flamingo of Dance - More Details
The Flamingo of Dance is placeable on a Ravendancer Didactic Desk or Grandiose Reading Stand, an Opportunity Reading Desk or Opportunity Lectern as well as counters, desks, dining tables, end tables, shelves, on the ground, or in any of the special purpose crystal ball stands that have been made available. With the built-in recolours, it can be made completely invisible wherever it is placed, can share a tile with another object, Sims will step over it, and it is height adjustable if Apartment Life or Mansion & Garden is available.
The teacher will lead the session from a position in front of the Flamingo, between the Flamingo and the students.
Sims who attend the session will listen to satisfy their Comfort, Fun and Social motives, but if the teacher is a magician or moderately Charismatic, then Sims will continue listening until their needs or mood becomes too low. A magician or a moderately Charismatic Sim will be paid §50 per hour by each non-family member present. On owned business lots, any earnings will go directly to the business owner.
Teachers increase their Charisma at the same rate as when practicing with the basegame Teleprompter. In addition, Sims can "Ask For" or "Offer" Charisma speech lessons if the Flamingo is placed on a Didactic Desk, Reading Desk, Reading Stand or Decorative Lectern.
Generic Dance (Rave) skills are earned at a somewhat faster rate than with a stereo. Hula and Slap dance are learned more quickly by those experienced in generic dance than by those completely new to dancing, which replicates the built-in behaviour coded into Bon Voyage.
On non-residential lots and dorms the teacher will appear automatically to begin a session, but this function can be overrode by selecting "Disable Auto-Invite" from the Flamingo's menu. Alternatively, if an Opportunity Pack Lost Opportunity is placed on the same tile, all teaching functions will be disabled.
Qualified Sims who happen to visit or are invited to the lot will autonomously use the Flamingo. On residential lots a qualified Sim will not appear automatically unless "Enable Auto-Invite" is selected.
The "Invite Teacher" menu option will call in a qualified Sim regardless of the Auto-Invite setting. If the instructor is already on the job, "Replace Teacher" will dismiss the current Sim and after about ten game minutes a new teacher will be recruited. If you no longer want an invited teacher at all, "Dismiss" will relieve the Sim of their duties and "Auto-Invite" will be disabled.
2) Basegame Flamingo Recolours - this set of recolours supports the surfaces subset of both the Flamingo of Dance and the basegame Flamingo: Aquamarine, Blue Sky, Blue Slate, Coral, Green, Heliotrope, Kobi, Invisible (Built-In), Lavender, Pink with Brown Base (Built-In), Pink with No Base (Built-In), Red, Rose, Ultramarine, White, Yellow.
This is the first project in the Opportunity/Ravendancer series to use both Interests and Enthusiasms as topics of discussion during the lecture segments. Unlike the typical pattern in which adding seemingly simple features becomes incredibly complex, the addition of Enthusiasm speech and thought icons was surprisingly easy.
The Flamingo cannot supply an Island Local to work as an instructor unless a Bon Voyage Tropical neighbourhood has been installed. For this reason the "Invite Teacher" menu option is suppressed until this condition can be tested, which must be done while the game is actually running, not paused.
The Flamingo builds fitness and body skills during the dance phase of the training. If you also wish to have Sims build these skills when dancing with a stereo, I recommend MATY's Dance Fitness and Body Skilling modification. This project does not make use of this mod. but it is compatible with it. The Flamingo project is self-sufficient in that it does not use any dance or stereo semi-globals or globals.
You may include any item from this set in uploaded lots, whether for free or pay. It is nice but not necessary to provide a credit and link to this page.
I suggest using Pescado's Community Lot Skilling and Enthusiasm patch so that these and all other skill building objects are fully functional on all lots.
GIMP 2 and Microsoft Paint for graphics editing, file conversion, processing, sizing and titling
Jfade's Compressorizer for minimizing file size
Milkshape 3D and UV Mapper Professional, for 3D modeling and mapping
SimPE, PJSE, and CEP for Sims 2 object creation
Flamingo of Dance: 830 faces, 501 vertices
