As part of an overall effort to consolidate my mess of communication channels and platforms for connecting with my mods and reporting things to me about them, I'm going to be hosting future updates on my website, here:
I have no intention of deleting what is already here on MTS, but I want to redirect you to where you can find the latest information on my mods and download the latest versions of them.
The reason for this is one of time and headspace. As you might imagine, it's difficult to keep track of, and update, everything, when it's spread across Twitter, Youtube, MTS, the official Sims forums, etc. I want to be able to get updates to you more quickly and communicate with you more efficiently to reduce the probability of the experience of feeling ignored, or of an important mod feature going months without a fix.
In the past, I could get away with messy because I was more or less modding full-time, but I can't invest that kind of time anymore. Thanks for your understanding.
Please visit the website and bookmark it if you want to keep track of things.
And thanks for your interest in, and support for, what I do. It is in large part because of your continued interest that I feel it is important to reorganize, so that I can better manage my mods in the future.
Unlimited PTO optional variation for addressing career swap issue
Long story short, this mod has always had limitations in that because it makes school "quittable," it now counts as a regular career and asks you to swap if you try to take on a job while in school (Teen) or now, with Seasons, an after school activity (Child).
In trying to find an alternative, while avoiding the aforementioned issue, I made a very simple variation that makes it so that for Child and Teen, PTO (vacation days) don't decrease when you use one. They start with 3 each and this counter should not go down when one is used with the alternate version installed.
This is more involved to use than being able to quit; you'll have to take the vacation day each day you don't want to go to school. But this way, if you want some flexibility in how often your sims go to school without the career swapping issue or the fact that the other version messing with auto enrollment means that NPCs don't get enrolled, you can use this version.
This version should also be compatible with the QuitOrJoin version, there just isn't any particular reason I can think of to use both together.
It will be called Triplis--School--UnlimitedPTO in the downloads section. Let me know if you spot any weirdness with the whole unlimited vacation days thing. It should work as expected, but I didn't sit down and test it for sim days or weeks at a time.
Fixed for Seasons Patch: Version 1-6
Hi, the mod was still more or less working in my initial tests, but I missed a couple of changes in the files the mod overrides that were causing some issues. This version should address those issues.
Thanks for the reports.
If you're new to the mod, please use one of the V1-6 options, ChildOnly or ChildTeen (NOT both at the same time!)
More details on changes below:
- Due to Child sims getting a volunteer "career" in Seasons, I decided it was no longer necessary to override the "Join Career" or "Quit Career" phone files to include Child sims as a possible age, since Child sims have been, in a way, included by Maxis. The catch is they are included in the context of the volunteer career, so the text matches that (e.g. it'll say "Join After School Activity" for Child sims, or "Quit After School Activity" even if you don't have Seasons and it's just school you're quitting/joining). Also, phone_JoinCareer_Child is now included as an override instead (despite not changing anything in the existing file) so that if you don't have Seasons, phone_JoinCareer_Child will still apply the functionality of allowing Child sims to quit their "career."
- Text should be present again when quitting. It'll still say things that sound weird though, such as "quit job."
November 7, 2017, Maxis Patch: Fixed!
This mod should now be working as before, with the November 7, 2017, Maxis patch.
Variations are slightly less flexible, but easier to manage, than it was before; to use the updated version of the mod, simply use one of two versions:
Explanation on these versions is explained in detail below for those who are new to the mod.
And of course, let me know if you still experience any issues.
No Auto Enroll
The scripted part of the mod effectively disables auto-enrolling. Whether you reload, travel, or age up Toddler --> Child or Child --> Teen, your sim will never be enrolled in school without your doing it.
You can enroll your Child or Teen in school through the Phone --> Find a Job. Even if you are using the "ChildOnly" version of the mod, your Teen will still be able to enroll in school through Phone --> Find a Job (they just won't be able to quit after enrolling with that version of the mod).
You can quit school as a Child or Teen by opening up your phone, going to the Career/Household panel, and clicking "Quit Job." The game will prompt you to confirm your decision, the same as if you're quitting a career as an adult.
You can rejoin school after quitting by opening up your phone, going to the Career/Household panel, and clicking "Find a Job." The game will bring up the panel that allows you to choose a career.
Differences between Child and Teen
Child: Children can't be whisked away from having too low of a Grade. I originally put this in the mod to handle situations where you quit/rejoin a lot and end up with a terrible grade that is hard to get out of and puts your Child Sim close to being taken away; for now, it's the default (and only) up to date version, along with grades not going down when you quit/rejoin.
Teen: Teens require some explaining. For reasons I haven't yet wrapped my head around, allowing Teens to quit school like it's a career interferes with whatever it is that normally allows them to have a job and attend school. This means that if you try to have a job and attend school as a Teen (with this mod installed) the game will prompt you to choose one over the other; only job or only school.
This is where choosing between "ChildTeen" or "ChildOnly" comes in. If you want Child sims to be able to quit/join, but you don't want Teens to have their joint school/career thing mucked with, you can just apply the possibility of quitting to Child sims. Teens will still be affected by the no-auto-enrolling script though.
This mod overrides several game files. Mods that edit the same files will conflict. The files are as follows.
commodity_Career_Child_Neglect | S4_339BC5BD_00000000_0000000000018282
career_Child_GradeSchool | S4_73996BEB_00000000_000000000000325F
career_Teen_HighSchool | S4_73996BEB_00000000_0000000000002545
phone_JoinCareer_Child | S4_E882D22F_0000001A_000000000002EC8A
Scripting note for other modders:The script to avoid auto enroll now edits "_apply_school_career" in simulation\careers\school\school_tuning.py (so any scripts that change the default code for that method will conflict... appending code may or may not)
