Ms. Crumplebottom is starting to feel her age; Her notoriously sharp eyesight just isn’t what it used to be and just last year, she pulled something in her shoulder while employing a particularly lethal handbag blow upon an unsuspecting young man’s head as he got handsy with his date at the Love Day Parade.
She tried everything, from removing her favourite brick from her handbag, to pointedly tutting with disgust instead of resorting to violence, but nothing worked. Ms. Crumplebottom has come to the conclusion that she will have to move out of her lace-curtained townhouse and far, far away from the loose lips and loose morals of civilisation. It’s the only way.

Task:
Build a house for an uptight, curmudgeonly elder (it doesn't have to be Ms. Crumplebottom, but she certainly does make things interesting!). Think floral print, potpourri , mothballs and cookie tins that only contain sewing equipment and despair.

Specifications:
Game - Any!
Lot Size - 30x30 lot at the largest(appears as 3x3 etc in some versions) or any of the smaller sizes. The smaller and more hidden away, the better!
Funds - §50k

Rules:
1. No electrical items other than lighting, kitchen appliances and perhaps a phone.
2. Decorate in a fussy, dated fashion. Clean, modern lines are not appreciated.

Bonus Challenge:
A Room for Mr Tibbles
Furnish a room of the house for your sim’s old, cantankerous feline friend.

Optional Challenges:

These are for our seasoned builders and those who love a challenge, but they're by no means necessary. Remember to tell us if you followed one of these!

1. Limited Funds: Ms. Crumplebottom was sued by Dina Caliente after a particularly embarrassing encounter when she was out on the town with one of her conquests. After paying up, she only has §30k left to build her home.
2. No CC: Ms. Crumplebottom hates anything new and some of this darnfangled CC is simply too shiny and modern for her tastes! Build and furnish from the game only!

This is just for fun, so there are no winners or losers! Once you're done, all you need to do is post photos of your completed hideaway in this thread :)

This challenge will run from the 16th of February to the 15th of March, after which point it will move to the challenge section where you are still welcome to try it out, but you won't be eligible for the challenge achievement sticker :)

This is a great challenge!

Say a person wanted to submit a CC and no-CC version, is that allowed, or only one house per member? :P

@Simmiller as it's for fun, feel free to try it out in different ways and create different houses according to the challenges if you want! The aim is to have fun, so the more you can get out of it, the better :D

Does the radio count as an electronic device?

@Phantomknight If it's old fashioned (for example a gramophone radio replacement or a mid-century or earlier style radio, then it could work) then sure. If you see something that you think could work within the theme, then go for it :)

Far, far away, hmmm? And as hidden as possible?

I uploaded my vision to my gallery page, #CrumpleBottomHideaway. It's based off an old-fashioned sitcom idea of mine from years ago.

GalleryID: mauvejinjo

Lot Name: Spinsters in SPAAAACE
Size: 20x20
LotPrice: $29,998
LotTraits: Peace and Quiet

What better way to spend one's twilight years than in the twilight of space? Miss Crumplebottom would agree, and built her new home to suit her most basic needs. There's a well for clothes washing, and a privy outback, although it may be good to note that Sixam water isn't exactly the same chemical composition we are used to down here...

@mauvejijno It certainly is hidden (we can't see it in this thread :D )

To take part in the challenge, please take a few photos of it to upload here for us to check out :) Not everyone is a TS4 player, so might not have use of the gallery to see your awesome house.

Whoops! I've never posted on a forum through URL before, and I noticed that the modyourpanties won't let me in. Is Image shack relatively secure, or can we post straight from a computer folder, like when uploading a mod?

If you scroll down when replying, there should be a bit for you to upload images, then you can copy them into IMG tags in your post :)

Haha! I hated her since she was in first Sims. So the best place to live for her is underground (i am joking)) Are there any limits to house height? Think Ms. Crumplebottom will hard to climb her dusty old bones too high.

@marka93 very quaint! I like that you didn't go full florals and gave it a bit of unique flair too.

This is fun. I have never even seen Ms. Crumplebottom in game, so this is a great opportunity to find her. Is the 2x2 a minimum? I'm partial to 1x1 lots.

@sunrader 1x1 is even better :) I'll edit the post to advise of that.

@rogueandroyal very nice! I like how it has the air of being owned by someone very neat and fussy, but also shows some wear and tear as if they can no longer quite keep up with the maintenance. Great work!

I think Ms. Crumplebottom should live in a dark mansion.

A wealthy old widowed and eccentric woman, I imagine she is a kind of that woman.

This sounds like fun! A question though, if you say no electricity, does this mean no hot water, no stove, no fridge? Or is it rather no modern appliances, and as long as it looks like it's still powered by an army of hamsters in treadmills it's ok?

More of a no mod cons situation. As you say, powered by an army of hamsters is the look lol.

Okaay, let`s try something special for dear Mrs. Crumplebottom. :heyhey:

Specifications:
Game - TS1
Lot Size - 630 sq. m.
Money spend - §49980
Bedrooms - 1
Bathrooms - 1

Rules:
1. No electrical items other than lighting, kitchen appliances and perhaps a phone.
2. Decorate in a fussy, dated fashion. Clean, modern lines are not appreciated.

Bonus Challenge I take part:
A Room for Mr Tibbles
Furnish a room of the house for your sim’s old, cantankerous feline friend.

Optional Challenge I take part:
2. No CC: Ms. Crumplebottom hates anything new and some of this darnfangled CC is simply too shiny and modern for her tastes! Build and furnish from the game only!

I tried to share all my love to this house special for my dear Ms. Cruplebottom))) The lot is far enough from others to hide. House is sorrounded with high walls with barbed wire finish to hide it much more from all the neighboor. There`s a beautiful shelter made in castle-roman-llama-provence style with a pond and little gazebo. It has kitchen, bedroom and WC. And a little outdoor patio for mr Tibble.
Hope Mrs. Cruplebottom will not feel herself imprisoned inside. This house was constructed as a symbol of something stylish and beautiful in her heart that`s sorrounded by the high and spiky fencing.
Look under spoiler to enter and have fun. :D

Game - TS2
Lot size 2x2
No CC used
Budget over $30K, about 35 I think.

Mrs C decided to move to Bayside Flats, and bought the most remote cottage she could find. She decided to go for a bungalow, as increasing age would make stairs a hazard. The second bedroom was soon converted into a combined kitty room and sewing room.

And I present an attempt as well.

Game: The Sims 2
Price : 29,593
Lot size : 20 X 30

I have kept the bedding defaults (chose a simple one) and the default roof trims I use in my game, but there are no other cc (as far as I know).

Not very welcoming from the outside, the house has a concrete facade. Actually there are double walls on 3 sides. No front door and no front facing windows either. If you have to come in, please go around the house and do not complain about the trouble.

No stairs, since old people find it hard to climb all the time, and a double bed (definitely not for romance, definitely not - but an old lady has to look after her back. That is why there are two comfy chairs). A gas stove in the kitchen, a book shelf and a place for a cat. What more could she want?

http://i66.tinypic.com/e63chu.jpg

Tour the hideaway:

A way to say :You are not welcome- is a big cat eating a flamingo

http://i63.tinypic.com/dgqo9e.jpg

The bare necessities inside, but still comfy enough

http://i63.tinypic.com/3535vm9.jpg

A special place for that rock which is often carried in the handbag

http://i64.tinypic.com/246lyq9.jpg

Wallpaper to match that food bowl of the cat

http://i67.tinypic.com/29za5gi.jpg

but if you ever reach the entrance at the back, you may be surprised

http://i65.tinypic.com/2cgi7m.jpg

I hope you enjoyed my interpretation and thank you for the challenge!

Young hoodlums with their "hip hops music, sagging pants, and smart widgets" weren't the first to start calling the distinguished subdivision of "Cattle-laddle Mews" as "Catlady Mews" ("Cat Lady meows" ;) ), but the name suits Agnes just fine, thank you very much!

Lot size 30x20
Lot value: $47,351

From the entrance, the small foyer opens into the parlor where tea, knitting, and nefarious plotting can be enjoyed with the steady of tick of the grandfather clock and the crackling fireplace. The rustic kitchen is just through the archway where a warm log-burning stove and an oven can attempt try to melt the frozen heart of a jilted spinster. The back patio, accessible from said kitchen, is perfect for the budding gardener! Out of the parlor and through the hallway, you can find the bathroom completely clean with as much empty counter space as the void in your heart and a large mirror for reflection on past mistakes. On the other end of the hallway is the bedroom, the perfect place for antiques that are only to be seen, never touched or used.

Ok! I totally blew the budget but whateves! I needed to fuss it up! A LOT! My Sims 4 fussy stuff is expensive! $103,141 Simoleons!

Mrs. Crumplebottom and Mr. Tibbles heard of a place that is wonderfully quiet during the day. It is so remote that they say that no one is ever around! The few neighbors work nights and sleep days so it is nice and quiet, just the way she likes it. She found an old house to rent in Forbidden Hollow for a decent price. The only caveat is that the landlord asked her to never go into the crypt since it belongs to his family. She assured him that she would never intrude upon his ancestors and is not foolish like some of these young kids going around ghost hunting. The deal made, she moved in post haste.

Mr. Tibbles is happy. He has his own room with his pet fish right outside his door.

Just click on the thumbs below for larger images. Sorry for the dark images, Forgotten Hollow is a night neighborhood for vampires so it's always gloomy, even in daylight..

This is a silly question, but... is Mr. Tibbles a certain kind of cat? I mean, does Mrs. Crumplebottom have a cat in the game that we know? Not me, but people who've seen Mrs. Crumplebottom? :)

This is a silly question, but... is Mr. Tibbles a certain kind of cat? I mean, does Mrs. Crumplebottom have a cat in the game that we know? Not me, but people who've seen Mrs. Crumplebottom? :)
I found Mr Tibbles is a part-kneazle cat from Order of phoenix HP book series. He never appeared at any Sims. So to add him to Ms. Crumplebottom is like as cross-over between two communities.

Not only does Ms. Wrinklebutt love her cat, she loves putting birdhouses where Kitty can stalk the birds. She also likes to knit. Kitty disappeared for a few days and Ms.W was afraid the animals in the woods had got her, but she found her, tangled in the yarn. You will get a pic of Mrs. W and cat whats-his-name playing with yarn on the porch. Here is a shot of her living room...fussy enough for you?
A picture of Ms. W's mother; we see why Ms.W likes cactus and other sharp and nasty things.
And her garden, where she grows mushrooms and other oddities.

funnily enough, i'm building my entry in Hogsmeade and was constantly thinking of Mrs Figg while playing, about the albums of cat pics (and how long they'd take to make) and how if she's moving from the city, she's definitely not getting a fireplace that mundungus could topple in from.

also, i miss Sims1! the rickety stuff in makin'magic, and the house rating and the butter churn and the way garden gnomes got annoyed if you cast that charm to water your daffodils :D

Mine is finished, but I need a Mrs. C clone to playtest it and liven up my photos! And I can't make her appear in the SimSurgery window. I have her extracted clothes and hair. Can anyone tell me which Sims 2 face template is hers?

Yes, I see that. I don't know that series either, really, so I will come up with Mr. Tibbles, the second. The first one was a childhood pet. :)

If you like it, you can download the house from my profile. Also, I made Ms. Crumplebottom and Mr. Tibbles and you can download them separately from the building.

First, I thought that, as an old lady, she should focus on a small wooden house, with a little vegetable garden and some forest-like landscaping around, but, her house is actually a hideaway, so I eventually thought about "hiding" it a little. Around the house, I built a giant maze in which only she knows the way (and of course her sweet fat cat) and placed a few trees here and there so that the house can't be seen clearly from the road.

I hope you enjoy playing in this house and find your way through the maze!
Also, any suggestions are very appreciated so please write a comment as soon as this building gets on my page in order to show me what improvements would you have made or what advices you have! :lovestruc

I’m not a builder or decorator. I’m more a tweaker and a storyteller, so this house may not quite fit the "letter of the law," but certainly it fits the spirit. Because I wanted it to be REALLY hidden, from the players and the sims, I built it on quite a large lot, but the house, itself, only has a 6x6-squares footprint, and believe me, building on this lot, was plenty of challenge for me!

Mrs. Crumplebottom, despite her reputation, is not opposed to new ideas. It's just so obvious to her than many new ideas are bad. Retirement village? Bad. Private Tiny House far from jolly retirees playing bingo and entertaining sticky grandchildren? Good. According to Mr's Crumplebottom's internet research, the best "Tiny House" is attached to a "Big House" that someone else pays for. So, Mrs. Crumplebottom has convinced a friend (yes, she has a friend) that she is the perfect tenant for her recently vacated caretaker's cottage.

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/crumphugs.jpg

When Mrs. Crumplebottom arrives at the Fortress of Eternal Darkness just before nightfall, it turns out the house belongs to Mr. Tibbles, the cat. When the old Head Witch passed on, she left the house in her will to Mr. Tibbles. (Of course, Mr. Tibbles is just Mrs. Crumplebottom's "pet" name for him. His real name is quite unpronounceable by normals.)

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/hiddencrump.jpg

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/nightcrumpfortress.jpg

The tiny house is filled with the cat's possessions and odds and ends from the big house that are no longer needed.

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/frontviewcrump.jpg

There's a worn red velvet sofa that's so uncomfortable Mr. Tibbles won't sit on it, but Mrs. Crumplebottom finds it quite adequate. There’s a fine fire of an evening and room for her sewing machine. There's a seemingly endless supply of hard wrought iron chairs from the days when covens met here in great numbers. (Now the covens are smaller and prefer to meet at the Holiday Inn.) Downstairs, there's an old red tub that Mrs. Crumplebottom feels unseemly, but, of course, she only uses it for laundry, preferring the modest, and efficient, all-in-one facilities installed by the last tenant. The Head Witch doesn't want anything marring her black color scheme, so Mrs. Crumplebottom puts all her color and florals and quilts inside.

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/warmfirecrump.jpg

Though she is officially his caretaker, Mr. Tibbles requires very little from her. She suspects him of conjuring food into his dish because, although she measures his daily portion precisely, he is, frankly, a bit... fat. He does his business outside, unless he's annoyed with her, when he makes a great show of using the litter box downstairs. And, though, she has never seen him deign to touch the cat toy, if she moves it, it will, shortly, reappear in the same spot just where she will need to step over it most, right at the foot of the stairs.

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/dinnertimefortibbles.jpg

Even with Mr. Tribbles somewhat vexing ways, it's a great deal, living here. Mrs. Crumplebottom finds she is quite happy and relaxed. Turns out she's not fussy at all, when there's no one around to annoy her. She'll even leave her bed unmade and a dish unwashed now and then. She can save her pennies here, which she appreciates. She has a few light caretaker duties, mostly occasional sweeping, to give her a little exercise. She has plenty of time to sew and knit.

http://www.dee.email/OPEN/SimPics/timetosewcrump.jpg

Soon, when the new young Head Witch needs to travel, Mrs. Crumplebottom looks forward to looking after the Big House and getting in a little extra reading.

Love your story too; for me, that's the fun part! I've finished the house; it's on a very small lot (specs later) so I had to add a 3rd floor room - for the "mysteries". She is almost totally non-electric; her frig is a ICE-box, just like my grandmother had. I remember visiting Bonnie when I was little. She had so many interesting things; a frig that you put ICE in. Delicate china cups with flowers, and crystal. She was so proud that now she had indoor plumbing; it took me a while to find it! To get water you had to pump the handle on this big thing by the sink. There was a bath tub on the back porch, and off the kitchen was a toilet - in a CLOSET! If I made it in Sims it would be 2 squares. She would always invite me to eat fruit in a bowl, but it was rotten-- so I had to put rotten fruit in this house too. The light on that table looks out of place, but it's a special candle for the Venus fly trap. My house also has a tiny wood-burning "stove" (I never use in in-game because it catches on fire), I prefer a big black one that is supposed to be log-burning, but doesn't look it.
Ah, the upstairs room...She used to sew, but not so much anymore. Maybe she should have a boy from town bring it down. There are just too many memories up there; the wedding dress she made, pictures of happier days, a mans muddy clothes...

Yes, the house is hidden. It's on the side of a heavily forested mountain (so difficult to play with all those trees!)

Though I have been a member for ages, I think since Sims 1, but shortly after, Sims 2 came out. I have been more of a lurker than a participant. Maybe that will change, as I want to do this challenge. Everyone has done such a good job. I recently did a house in Sims 4 with a story involving Mrs. Crumplebottom, so it was a delightful surprise to log in and find this. If you are interested, you can find the house on the gallery. My name there is Staralien7 and the house is Crumplebottom Estate. This challenge actually fits in very well with my story-line. Anyway..guess I better get busy if I am going to do this. Happy Simming!

Right?! I had all those spikes in the way in mine, ugh. I hid my Travellers' Caravan among hood trees on a lot, and that was a nuisance, too. If you have one, I'd love to see a zoom out of your lot to see how you did your mountain and trees.

It's so fun seeing everyone's interpretation of Crumplebottom's character, needs, and stories. I'm so glad this is a challenge just for fun, and we get to see these little windows into the characters of the creators, too - memories, ideas about aging, about being in society or out of it, it's all really quite wonderful. That's the eternal beauty of Sims 2 and why I love it so much.

Mrs. A. Crumplebottom and her cat, Mr. Tibbles, have retreated as far as they could and still get the newspaper, groceries, and ice delivered and the trash picked up. University Depot is an old-fashioned wannabe community, platted near Land Grant University in hope that graduates will develop the area. Mrs. C hopes they will not, as the last thing she needs is a bunch of Young Modern People hanging about, playing their loud music and flaunting their depraved knees. She has her own well and septic system (indoor plumbing being the only modern innovation she truly embraces), a landline for calling her bookie, enough wine to last her a week or so, her old treadle sewing machine, oil-burning lamps, a wood stove, and a nice thorny hedge to deter intruders. She and Mr. Tibbles expect to be very happy together.

Game: TS2
Lot: 20x20 (And it's all mine, so keep your dirty feet on the sidewalk and out of my garden if you know what's good for you!)
Price: $50,000 EXACTLY (That harlot Dina Caliente isn't getting a single dime from me, no matter what that lawyer of hers says!)
No Custom Content (I mean, really! Kids these days, with their newfangled contraptions for everything under the sun... back in my day, we worked with what we had, and were grateful for it!)

Upon learning that Dina Caliente, that up-jumped hussy, had the gall to file suit against such an upstanding figure of the community as herself, for simply trying to maintain some standards of public decency, Mrs. Crumplebottom decided to spite her, and spent her entire $50,000 savings on her new cottage, down to the last red cent. "If that strumpet wants to come after me, I'll have her in court for years, and even if some incompetent judge awards her a settlement, all she'll get is dried flowers and books of knitting patterns! Ha!"

While at first she had thought about moving to a secluded house deep in the countryside, Mrs. Crumplebottom realized that she needed to stay closer to the city, so that she could get to her podiatrist and her liquor store quickly, and so she settled for a small brick-and-clapboard cottage in the suburbs, far from any nightclubs or popular bars. Here, she could enjoy the peace and quiet of being out of the city, tending her flower gardens and feeding the far-better-behaved suburban pigeons ("Those birds in the city are so insolent- not so much as a look when you toss bread crumbs for them!") during the day, and being able to enjoy an early afternoon cup of tea and be in bed by 7:30 without the incessant beats of a nearby dance club rattling the windowpanes and keeping her awake. While social protocol dictated that she keep the small second bedroom as a bedroom for guests ("Inviting someone into my home? What an absurd notion!"), Mrs. Crumplebottom allows Mr. Tibbles the run of the place, so should any guest be fool enough to pay Mrs. Crumplebottom a visit, they'll likely find 'their' bed already occupied by a particularly disagreeable feline, and have to look elsewhere for their accommodations... which is exactly how Mrs. Crumplebottom and Mr. Tibbles want it.

(I'm still debating whether or not I want to upload this lot... it's finished and usable, but I've never uploaded a 'normal' house! What of my reputation for massive, million-dollar constructions!?)

Here's my very rustic, very cheap version of Mrs. Crumplebottom's hidden hideaway, which I call Crumplebottom Cottage. I used the optional challenge situations of limited funds, keeping the cost under 30,000, and there is no Custom Content used (you have no idea how hard that is for me LOL!). I really thought I had made it Base Game compatible, too, but turns out there are a couple decorative items from Seasons, Get Together, and Parenthood. :faceslap: I did not make a room for Mr. Tibbles - don't hate me, I'm actually a cat person

It's really out of the way and surrounded by a beautiful forest when you place it in Brindleton Bay (which would require Cats and Dogs EP).

If you have City Living, you can make use of the lot traits:
Cat Hangout
Creepy Crawlies
Great Soil

30x20
FURNISHED: 26,639 - does not include price of land

*I realized afterwards that my post is sort of written like an upload* :wtf:

I'm going a different direction with this, and it may not meet the specs exactly, but when I think of Mrs. C., I think this. I'll try to include some of the elements suggested, though, and will keep an eye on the price. Some of the designs here are also in the same general direction, though, so it's not that novel.

One thing ... are you folks including sewing machines because it's canon that Mrs. C is a seamstress? Did I miss something here? She definitely knits, though, so it's off to find something to indicate that she does ... one or two other things as well, IF I can find them and they're not a million polys. I am not making a clone of her because I doubt I'll play her character. I'll just say that someone let me in to take a peek. The lot will be play-tested, though.

There's a tub in the downstairs bathroom... remember, when these houses were first being built, indoor plumbing was still a novelty in some areas, and so having a single tub would have been seen as quite enough to be getting on with! (I kind of imagine that the upstairs bathroom would have been a small bedroom at one point, and was only partially converted into a second half-bath by a later owner.

Ah! I see it now! I'm so used to half-baths being on the bottom floor. In most old houses, at least in America, the original bathroom is either on the upper floor, or immediately next to the kitchen, so my mind registered the downstairs bathroom as a back porch and apparently filtered out the bath. One bathroom is certainly plenty for a single person; but of course she doesn't want to go downstairs in the night, and hauling a chamberpot every morning would be distasteful in the extreme. If only you could still get good help these days!

Mrs. C's sewing machine isn't canon, but until recently (by Crumplebottom standards) it was rare to find a knitter who didn't also sew, and doing so would prevent the ordeal of shopping for her signature clothing amid the crowds and inadequate staff of the big box stores and malls, not to mention that of using a public changing room. Even if she mail-orders her clothes, it's rare to get clothes from a catalog that don't require alteration to fit properly. So the machine is a natural thing to give her.

I should have given her furniture covered with doilies and dresser scarves, but I don't have much, and that was a little too expensive. Having just moved in, she'll probably be busy making them for awhile.

Yeah, which honestly makes more sense, but it didn't fit with the floorplan that worked best... that, and this house (architecturally, anyways) was kind of modeled after a scaled-down reimagining of my grandparent's house, and theirs was a full bath on the first floor, a 3/4 bath in the basement, and a tiny closet of a 1/2 bath in the upstairs.

Peni - KNITTING! I've asked in "where can I find" for that mod; mine seems to be broke (looks like a ball of yard, but Mrs.C refuses to knit).
With apologies to Mrs.C (via Vic-tor) for babbling, and failure to follow directions, I present cooking and fire-poking, and sundry dignified activities (never mind Mr Tibbles, who found a mouse under the front porch and has gone quite mad).

As for the attic, the treadle sewing machine is there, an old dresser with 2 old teddy bears, a rusty bike, and The Secret. She IS MISSES C. but was she ever, really married? And what happened to her intended? Maybe that sad story (and those sour faces of her family by the fire place) tell us something of the unfortunate Mrs. C.
And although I started with a 2X2 lot and the best intentions of building a proper Victorian (one of my favorite styles), I got distracted fiddling with objects and OMSPs, for hour after bloody hour...
For a total cost of $66000.
Well, I just don't CARE...well, Vic-tor's Mrs.C WAS quite terrifying. I'll just have some tea and lavender cookies and pull out my OWN knitting...

Simmiller, nice shelter! Mr. Tibbles will probabbly find his place somewhere to the right from bedroom entrance. Ms. C. will like monochrome interior palette. Boring grey look makes me think she don`t like multicolour.

She's actually a church-lady, 'holier than thou' type with a physical mean streak. I mean that purse bashing deserves assault charges. :deal:

That's my own partly. TS1 Crumplebottom was kinda annoying, say usually screaming and her messages were capslocked. I tried to make her character close to this, both with my house and message to burn some creative flame in this thread. But here I see most simmers found her character much calm and charming.

It's odd, i'd never given this Mrs. much thought other than placing community lot pools, hot tubs and showers far back enough that the poor sims could get some use out of them before The Handbag hit them. But the more i played this lot, the more i started to understand her. It's not pleasant, people and generations coming and going, while you're still there, being able to tell how much worse things are now compared to the simple and HONEST times of old. So anyway, here goes.

Although she didn't get the patch of land she'd set her keen eye on, Mrs. Crumplebottom is quite content with her new dwelling.

That right there behind the forest is where she wanted to live, but the moving company refused to ship her books and quilts over by helicopter, and the city hall absolutely denied her permission to uproot several trees and put them back afterwards  .
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/4/0/8/7/1/6/MTS_st_d-1826559-land.jpg

The cottage isn't bad: not a single step to climb, forest all around it, heaters in every room and somewhere comfortable to rest her old bones. Which bones, however, are feeling reasonably well. The doctor left her a large vial of green potion to take every other day, and it makes a world of a difference. The birds though. No one told her about the birds. They cry and swoop and she suspects it's the weather vane irritating them, but how to get on top of the house to get rid of the thing?
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/4/0/8/7/1/6/MTS_st_d-1826573-frontofthehouse.jpg

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/4/0/8/7/1/6/MTS_st_d-1826561-plan.jpg
One fact she's discovered since moving is that if you put up a picket fence in front, it protects the various endeavours you take up behind it. Her favourite is using that telescope and calling it science, but looking for treasure previous owners might have buried is a close second.
http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/3/4/0/8/7/1/6/MTS_st_d-1826562-fence.jpg
That said, it was a while before any activity grew on her. Doing the crossword every morning was alright, until they asked for "two words, 3 and 4 letters, computer game". Impertinent! Then she tried her hand at painting, which made her think of music*, but if you've ever seen her dance, you'd know what a bad idea that was. Baking made an impression, but it wasn't until she tried to work off those cakes that the true tinkle of a hobby resounded throughout the city: sports. Oh yes, that's where her heart is.

*yes, i do mean that pesky in-game business about creativity triggering music instrument wants. I keep meaning to insert a check for hobby enthusiasm, and keep postponing

Fun facts:
- the most used item in the house: toilet
- the least used item: garden gate
- the scariest moment: when the overgrown lawn attracted so many wolves that she couldn't go out of the house for a whole day. That's when she reluctantly hired a gardener.
- the most satisfying moment: selling that pesky pc

Game: TS2. Neighbourhood terrain: Hogsmeade (available on MTS). Plot is 2x2, and after building and furnishing it cost 36.5k (surprising, since i wasn't exactly holding back). There's a lot of CC, but what isn't found on MTS is over at Parsimonious and ATS, nothing nefarious. No fancy build cheats used, not even snaptogrid off.

During this i got side-tracked numerous times. I found out i cannot easily insert a witch check in the Mysterious bookcase, although i can easily make it so that no one uses it as a door. Lol. I made a custom secret society (Ravenclaw Tower, what else?) without borking my neighbourhood this time, major win. I failed at adding campus name to the college diploma. And i failed at conjuring Mrs. C's Xmas jumper project out of the Accessory cheat. Busy times.

P.S. I think the sewing machine is something like soap, an item she couldn't imagine a proper household without. She'd have gone to school at a time when household activities were part of the normal curriculum, sewing and baking among them. My grandma was like that; even if strength didn't allow her to make her own bedsheets anymore, she wouldn't have dreamt about selling the sewing machine. Ever.

------------------------
Edit to add: OMG i can't believe what i forgot! It may be out of the handbag, but it's definitely not out of her life ;p

Me, too, this. I have my sewing machines and wouldn't dream of getting rid of them, and I felt she would, too. I also just wanted her to be able to make quilts to warm up the cold black stone used in the witch's cottage.

I love your take on her and the cottage, so sad about the trees. :)

"Charming"? HARDLY! She's a cantankerous, self-righteous busybody! I suspect she DOES have a drinking and gambling habit, also. I took dramatic liberties by implying that she grew up with nasty women, and had a broken heart.

I don't usually enter challenges, but since there is no competition in this one, I thought I'd give it a go, and I had tons of fun! I'm terrible at taking in-game screenshots, I did my best, but, wow, how people manage to take decent pics in tiny rooms is definitely beyond me.

So Mrs. C loves two things in life (apart from pestering young lovers, that is): flowers, and Mr. Tibbles. Hopefully this house combines these two interests. It is set in the middle of nowhere (literally, the lot tag read "Mid-nowhere", I thought that might be fitting). Charming in that shabby, over-cluttered way that only older ladies grow to appreciate, it features an entrance/lobby that doubles as a dining room with a table for two (for when Mr. Tibbles is done with his etiquette lessons and finally grasps how to use a fork) and several china cabinets, a kitchen with crockery and cat food for the next five years, a tiny reading room with a music box (working condition not guaranteed), a toilet, and a small backyard porch to gaze upon the horizon (actually, the rocks and hills, this place is a basin) on the ground floor. Climb the stairs, meet more underappreciated antiques, and find Mrs. C's cosy bedroom, Mr. Tibbles' very own room (though his mistress is known to doze off in his armchair on occasion), and their shared bathroom (even featuring a cat flap for VIP feline access). In the garden, Mrs. C had three large planters installed, in which she plans to grow her own fruits and vegetables - not that she wouldn't rather grow flowers, but her latest down-town antics got her banned from the grocery shop (she broke their window with her brick-purse while trying to hit a couple kissing behind the stalls).

Game: TS4
Lot size: 20x20
Price: 49895 Simoleons (I thought it would be a breeze, but I had a really hard time staying under the 50K bar, all that clutter doesn't come cheap!)
Specifications: 1.5 bathrooms, 1.5 bedrooms (that is, if you consider Mr. Tibbles to be half a Sim, but don't tell Mrs. C I suggested that)

She doesn't like anything modern? But there's a whole album of moden-ish music specially made for her and her house you want us to build!

MfbLo4VLB5s

Geez, that album is over two decades old now and I remember loving it. As might have ol' Crumpy. This challenge is a great idea! Great Sims theme of a classic character. Not that I'll take part in this challenge, but I'd certainly include the torment of her dead fiancée - deeply in love and the tragedy a day before they were due to marry was it not? - and the failed music career she was hungrily chasing in her youth. Gotta have some pitiful-looking, abandoned music room in the home. And plenty of mouldy picture frames displaying pictures of the last thing she ever loved; her dead fiancée. But no CC? Surely just one piece, for that all-important, weapon of mass destruction handbag of infamy. Looking forward to the creations folks come up with for this. I always had a soft spot for old Crumpy. I feel her pain. Wallop! There, see! She just hit me with a handbag again. Pain. Feeling it. Good luck with your Houses of Handbags. Looking forward to seeing the creations.

Wonderful! You did a really good job. I am using the same lot since it is out of the way and surrounded by trees. I am using that same floral wall paper as well in the living room. The lot is basically finished, but I still need to do the screen shots and write my story. I created Mrs Crumplebottom and Mr. Tibbles as well to play test and I think they turned out pretty well. Anyway...good job on your version! :)

Sul Sul! Here is my entry: Mrs. Crumplebottom was sick of the city & all the people in it with their depraved behavior and kissy-kissy stuff. Her estate was stolen by the bank, and that terrible Dina Caliente stole most of the rest of her money by suing her. If things were not bad enough, she finally gave in and let that Unsavory Charlatan have his way with her. She thought she had found true love at last until the morning she woke to find him gone along with the rest of her money! With a broken heart, she decided to find her a little house far away from it all where she and Mr. Tibbles could live out the rest of their days in peace and quiet. Thankfully she had hidden a little nest egg in her mattress so was able to buy a small cottage in a quite little town on the edge of nowhere. A small garden was perfect for her to grow her own veggies and flowers and with that and taking up bee keeping, she could earn quite a bit of money. She also decided to give painting a try when she found an old easel. Gone were the days of handbag swinging and sticking her nose into other people's business. Yes it's boring, but this old lady is ready to settle down and leave the world behind. Now if only her new neighbors would stop knocking on the door! Mr. Tibbles seems happy and he is all the company she needs.
Built in Brindleton Bay on the Hindquarter Hideaway lot
Lot size: 30x20
Price: $49,922
Lot Traits: Great Soil, Homey, Peace and Quiet

The cottage as well as Mrs. Crumplebottom and Mr. Tibbles can be found on the Gallery under Staralien7 and with the hashtags #MrsCrumplebottomsHideaway and #MrsCrumpleBottom I discovered someone else made her as well awhile back using the same hash tag so you will find mine and theirs. Since there seems to be a big interest in her atm, there could be more created soon. If I did this wrong, I apologize. It sucks to be a newb at doing stuff! Anyway..always have fun and always be your best you! Dag Dag!

So here's my attempt at Ms. C's retirement home after a successful career of keeping people in line. She decided it was so embarrassing she needed to retire she used her remaining strength to make it into a place called the Forgotten Grotto. There she built her home where she could accept her oldness and die in shame alone. No one lives forever. I hope Ms Crumplebottom finds the home acceptable. It doesn't have a garden but I added plenty of plants to make up for it. I also added a sewing room for her.

Do you think Ms. Crumplebottom feels the shame of die alone? The game story said she is blood-connected with Mortimer and Dina Caliente. But her own character sets her against them.

Just when it seemed like she'd never find a place worthy of her and Mr. Tibbles... her very own home came back on the market! The young upstart house flippers who bought the thing threw out their backs tearing out the original fireplaces--and now they needed to sell ASAP to pay their medical bills. Stupid kids! That's what you get for messing with the antiques! Crumples got her precious house back for next to nothing (guess you can't negotiate real estate with a bad back--ha!) and, though she wasn't able to salvage the fireplaces, she covered up the damage nicely. And everyone had always thought she was crazy for hoarding all that wallpaper!

Ole' Crumply loves how low maintenance it is to be left with barely any furniture--it emphasizes the starkness of the high ceilings and makes it easier to find her handbag. That and, let's be honest, there was never much room in the place to begin with. She still has the important stuff: multiple litter boxes for Mr. Tibbles, her rock-hard single bed, and, of course, an antique telescope, great for catching unruly hooligans getting too handsy on their night out.

Game: Sims 4
Also, I made Ms. Crumplebottom and Mr. Tibbles and you can download them separately from the building.

I can't find them :( are they on your gallery or mts profile? I'd love to play with them, but I'm far too lazy to create them myself (especially since I suck at cas  )

My approach is like some here. I don't see Mrs. C. as liking lots of clutter at all. Everything in its place. Practicality over frills. She doesn't mind an embellishment or two. Just not too many!

Her hideaway was apparently a house that the original Agnes Crumplebottom (from Sims 3) owned in the late 40s, before she expanded her criminal empire and moved into a huge house. It was part of a failed real estate deal with apparently shady undertones. Either that, or it was the first Agnes' secret hideaway from the law. The history of the house is pretty blurry. The current Mrs. C remembers the first Agnes faintly. Some of the former Agnes' belongings were still in the house when the current Agnes moved in. The place is in a remote area of town.

https://i.imgur.com/KZBak8h.jpg

Mrs. C particularly liked the use of a pointy fence to discourage trespassers. Not too many steps! She can't bound up them as fast as she used to. And because of the steps, she wanted a one-story house.

The foundation has been shrunk, making Mr. Tibbles a house cat. This is fine with Mrs. C.

The house is based on a real-life house plan from the late 40s. Supposedly, Sims 3's timeline is in the 50s, though ... it's complicated. https://www.flickr.com/photos/daily-bungalow/2398384325/in/album-72157604445565955/ I deliberately made sure the house style was out BEFORE 1950. Barely, but it was!

Next, side and back views. Oh, and the top and the floor plans. That sort of stuff.

https://i.imgur.com/wqYnctq.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/0FKjj5T.jpg

The shower in the bathroom is fine, since Mrs. C. has a little trouble getting into tubs. (I normally don't post pictures of bathrooms unless they are super-deluxe or that picture is required.) There are two dwarf fruit trees in the backyard ... an orange and a lemon tree. Other than that, pine trees, please. Mrs. C. wants to rake as little as possible.

https://i.imgur.com/ojBa3OJ.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/4leValX.jpg

The hallway has a table for two, though since people don't normally come to visit, Mrs. C. switches chairs to try wearing them out more evenly. Mr. Tibbles sometimes joins her. The wallpaper ... super-neutral and super-practical. Mrs. C. keeps her knitting on one of the trunks. She likes old clocks, and makes sure they keep good time. There is a picture of the first Agnes C in the hallway.

https://i.imgur.com/cG4XjHx.jpg

Mr. Tibbles' room is also simple, but Mrs. C makes sure he is comfortable. There are shades instead of curtains because Mr. T. liked to bat at the curtains. Oh, and short curtains and shades throughout. (Source ... my friends' cat and what happened to THEIR curtains.)

https://i.imgur.com/auUcD9T.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/vgAxZPT.jpg

The living room has a chessboard, where Mrs. C. will play against herself. Two bowling trophies are on the fireplace mantel. Back in the day, Mrs. C. could bowl a mean game! There is no need for a TV ... too much indecent material on it.

https://i.imgur.com/CoMVrym.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/k6q9Uql.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/ti91fZx.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/UrkJzmr.jpg

Mrs. C. loves her tea. Loves, loves her tea. An improper cup of tea can spoil her day ... not that it takes much to spoil it. A touch of brandy in her favorite beverage keeps her warmer on winter nights. If she is not inclined to a nip of brandy, and in season, the orange and lemon trees provide good citrus flavor for her caffeinated beverage of choice. Outside, she grows chamomile and echinacea for non-caffeinated tea, as well as a bit of lavender both for drinking and to help her sleep. She tries not to guess why that part of the garden seems so fertile. She heard rumors about the former Agnes and all, but that's claptrap. It must be claptrap. (Note: In Sims 3, the older Agnes C is in the criminal career.)

The flowers in the front are made of fine plastic. Mrs. C is not a huge gardener. She is too busy showing those brazen Sims how to behave.

So here you are. A house that is as practical as Mrs. C.'s sensible shoes.

Personal thoughts: After gussying up lots in contests and challenges, it was not as easy as I thought to deliberately tone things way down and make a practical lot deserving of a grumpy lady. I used a couple of memories as inspiration; one in particular involving a great-aunt's house. I remember so much brown, dull green, white and gray in that house, though it could be the imagination of a young child. I hated going there!

The no-modern-conveniences was a little puzzling. My 89-year-old mother freaks out at a cell phone, yet has a TV, landline phone and radio. So I went for a kind of compromise, reading the posts about radios to make sure I still met the requirements. I tried to keep my mother's needs in mind while designing the lot. While this house has stairs, there are only two, and an elderly person could hold on to the rails or even the planter or half-wall while climbing them.

This entry is a little sloppy, I know, but this was an informal challenge, and the problems aren't so, so bad. No ... this probably wouldn't have even made the Top 4 in a contest. I see some things I should have changed. Unfortunately, I would have had to use the no-CC shell I made in a clean hood and completely replicate this house all over again. At this point, I'm glad to at least finish an entry! And yes .... I do have a no-CC shell of this house, but it's so plain that I don't think it will be in hot demand. It will do well as a college campus house for a single Sim in my game, though, and that's probably where a copy of the shell is headed next ... much more jazzed-up, of course, with at least 70% less brown and gray, and some wall re-arrangement.

This was fun. :) Oh, and no offense to tea drinkers. I really like tea myself. Sans brandy. (The brandy was something my husband's grandmother swore was a good winter beverage.)

She has more wrinkles in my game, thanks to a face detail by missfortunesims. If you need the link, let me know.
After i was done with her face, character features etc. i was surprised. She pester anyone in my game. Only happy if anyone else is unhappy. I´m sure once she´s dead, she turns hell into hell. I got more Agnes Sims 2,3,4 material as download in "stock" lol.

She. is. AWESOME! And you are awesome for creating her. And yes, definitely share where I can get those wrinkles, I'd love to have her in all her glory!

I think I'm gonna make her a grand marshal in the army and a master vampire with maxed up vamp skills for strength, occult stuff and, of course, sun immunity, because she is so badass that even the sun can't do anything to her. So she would be immortal, because my sims are all sinners and their suffering will be eternal.

UPDATE.
I did it. She is an unstoppable force of nature.
Literally the first thing she did is point her new shiny walking and beating cane at my sim and her stupid gadget and call us all garbage.

But she's very polite, she obliged to the rules of the house and took her shoes off and even agreed to pose both for a portrait and for a selfie.

Thank you! Sims 2 Agnes was actually my model for Sims 4. Body skin HERE (http://missfortunesims.blogspot.de/2014/09/mf-sims-detailed-body-skin.html) Good for her complexion lol. I am absolutely LOVING all of the houses in this thread! I had to do the challenge, too, as I adore Mrs. C, the crabby ol' you-know-what.
https://i.imgur.com/mbnDSr7.jpg

This Mrs. C, however, is Lucinda Crumplebottom. A distant relative of the other Crumplebottoms, she lives in my Twinbrook for now.

https://i.imgur.com/Z8xAvqp.jpg
She's not been well. As you may be able to see, she has had a stroke from the stress of keeping the citizens of Twinbrook in line. She misses swingin that purse. (Sculpting her was a hoot, too!)

https://i.imgur.com/H2V78Mg.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/qx6zAYM.jpg

https://i.imgur.com/u6HliE8.jpg

But she has her Mr. Tibbles, and that makes it better.

The Specs:
Lot: 25 x 25
Game: Sims 3
Price: 49,137. Woo decor is expensive!
This is a 2 bedroom-ish shotgun type lot, on a stilted foundation. No mod-cons here, but there's a wringer washer in the shed. I went with a 30s/40s original with 50s update vibe, which is pretty much what I grew up with at my great-grandparents and grandparents' homes.

Let's get to the pics!

https://i.imgur.com/37ZD6TP.jpg
The attic is just a filler, honestly.

https://i.imgur.com/LFh2udh.jpg
Everything is all on one floor.

https://i.imgur.com/hCpE2fY.jpg
But under the foundation, what... what has she been up to?

https://i.imgur.com/Nbb5X5A.jpg
House- hidden. No neighbors for some miles.

https://i.imgur.com/v6YzBC7.jpg
Makes for some pretty shots, though.

https://i.imgur.com/AfWDCia.jpg
Let's go thru that gate... say, did you get your tetanus shot?

https://i.imgur.com/YED1s8h.jpg
First thing we hit is the front porch.

https://i.imgur.com/g7xSXr6.jpg
Into the foyer/entry way.

https://i.imgur.com/rntXlpW.jpg
The pocket doors are open, and you can see that rumbling old monitor fridge Lucinda has. Once in a while, the compressor will make this horrible noise and scare the crap out of you.

https://i.imgur.com/1rrn7c2.jpg
Turning around to face the front. There's two doors on your right.

https://i.imgur.com/IvU2HTd.jpg
One leads to what used to be a sleeping porch but now is the sewing room.

https://i.imgur.com/hrO6wPp.jpg
The other leads to a horrible pink monstrosity of a bathroom.

https://i.imgur.com/ecgigAj.jpg
Ugh. So, much, pink.

https://i.imgur.com/L1Ulk3h.jpg
Let's leave there and go into the kitchen. It's a U-shaped one, with a converted gas stove.

https://i.imgur.com/EBo489n.jpg
To your left, the bookcase and carpet delineate the sitting room portion of this open kitchen/dining area.

https://i.imgur.com/nWL748J.jpg
To your right, the jelly cupboard, which looks rather bare.

https://i.imgur.com/V8NVZ7g.jpg
We may have interrupted Ms. C in the middle of her afternoon tea.

https://i.imgur.com/x3HxE2y.jpg
The sitting area towards the back of the house. Just an old radio and knitting (why must it be PINK??!!).

https://i.imgur.com/ICLjXlJ.jpg
The bedroom is a tight squeeze, so we take a bit of a bird's eye view... and note the old bat sleeping, too.

https://i.imgur.com/6qKBYgr.jpg
The bedroom is L-shaped, and the door leads out to Mr. Tibbles' room.

https://i.imgur.com/AjKecjf.jpg
The ladder to the attic is to your right, but no-one uses it. Don't wake the old kitty!

https://i.imgur.com/94pIygF.jpg
And now, we head outside, past the litter box and the food bowls.

https://i.imgur.com/RvwR7IR.jpg
The back porch has a nice loveseat and vines climbing up the lattice, which makes for some nice shade.

https://i.imgur.com/gk7qiMb.jpg
It's a bit of a drop, but Ms. C has planted flowers to reduce the erosion, and had stone steps installed at the bottom of the porch steps.

https://i.imgur.com/X4pwnhj.jpg
The wall is mossy, and the garden is up a bit higher than the rest of the yard. Pretty sparse this year, too.

https://i.imgur.com/rWpocRN.jpg
I wonder if she even notices that down there?

https://i.imgur.com/29P3VWJ.jpg
Anywho, let's hit the shed.

https://i.imgur.com/s6lVCfS.jpg
Nice little area - I bet she can also use it as a summer kitchen, if she felt like it.

Well, that's about it for the tour. I had fun taking part in this challenge, and Ms. C is a hoot to play with!

I do, she's in the vanilla Maxis career, and she is just rocking it! She also has a full inventory of medals, which I find just marelous and very suiting. But now I am afraid to start the investigation, because is SHE would be an obstacle... well, the investigation is doomed from the start, as are we all.

Hey look at me, I finished a challenge!

The Specs:
Lot: 30 x 20
Game: Sims 4
Price: 49,645.
It's a single bedroom, ground floor cottage (because walking up stairs is hard for the elderly). It's currently placed in the base game hood Willow Creek. So not so isolated. But she has a nice wall to keep people off her property. Also thanks to Staralien7 for making her Ms Crumplebottom available from the gallery.

Packs: Seasons, Cats and Dogs, City Living, Get Together, Jungle Adventures, Laundry Day, Vintage Glamour Pack, Movie Hangout Stuff.
Optional challenges:
No CC.
Room for Mr Tiddles.

The front of the house
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828564
The roof top (had some trouble with this one. Still not pleased but I can't improve it more)
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828566

Floorplan
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828565

Bathroom
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828567
Bedroom. A singlebed is all she needs until her back gets too sore. Then she might get one of those adjustable beds that my grandmother used to have.
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828568
Kitchen. Rustic. Sparse, but both knives and spices.
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828569
Living room. She has a comfortable chair to do her knitting in as she listens to old songs from when she was young. (Also that globe? It's the bar from Glamour pack if she feels thirty)
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828570

...and last but not least, Mr Tribbles's room. With it's blue colors its in stark contrast to the rest of the house. But blue is for boys after all.

I made it on TS4 on Dusty Turf. The land was 30x20 but I used 13x10 for the house and then 2x4 for the porch. It costed 30,446 including land. 1 bedroom 1 bathroom 1 kitchen. I have vampires, gtw, and holiday, but I don't think I used it nor cc. I don't have pets so, yeah sorry about that.

RicoSuavicito, many say they need a room for mr. Tibbles. I have some tips fer confused simmers! At least! This can be just a sofa in room with arch entering. Sofas and guestroom chairs cats find comfy. Rug at the room's corner is perfect daybed too. Why not? Turning on imagination you can say cats sometimes are walking around the neighboor. But if you want him show up, there's a BG cat-looking sculpture. This can be a poor man's Tibbles-replacement)

Thank you! I'm always happy to help people find things, too!

The table cloth on the nightstand is attached to the end table - that's in an EP, I forget which one. Might be the one that came with all the farm stuff and Grandpa's Grove.

I think the stove is TSR (Hogsmeade stove) and the fridge is CWS. You may be able to find them in the Sims 3 WCIF section of this site! I'm not sure I can post links in this particular thread, which is why I'm suggesting the WCIF section - there's a CWS section in there.

So, please follow me for a quick tour of the house. Be quiet, don’t touch anything. And wipe your feet before entering. You’ll notice a few plants here. Well, they are here because a lady needs to eat. Not because rummaging in the dirt is a hobby. She is not THAT kind of old lady.

Wipe your feet again. People never do it properly.

Keep moving. Don’t ask. Next room, please. A spare room, filled with some necessary and some important stuff. It could be turned into a full room if there was a requirement for it.

Bedroom - not much in here, just the necessities. A place to sleep, an assortment of appropriate blouses and cardigans and the lookout station. What, you find it unusual to have a lookout in your bedroom? How do you keep track of what happens around you?

Also a place for the brick collection and to train brick-hitting and face-slapping on a person. Well, an artificial, somewhat bare bone person, but sometimes one has to make concessions for the greater good. Pictures of targets help to gather strength. One need to be prepared. The body, this treacherous beast, may be failing, but the mind is sharp as ever.

No, no, Mr. Tibbles is someone else. The only male allowed into the bedroom these days *cackles*. Maybe you know who he is after this tour of the house.

Now please leave the premises immediately. Don’t turn around. Don’t say a word to anyone. And never come back.

Or, did she kill off her ol' hubby dearest and render his bones for display? EeeHH! :P

The roof top (had some trouble with this one. Still not pleased but I can't improve it more)

Floorplan
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828565

Bathroom
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828567
Bedroom. A singlebed is all she needs until her back gets too sore. Then she might get one of those adjustable beds that my grandmother used to have.
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828568
Kitchen. Rustic. Sparse, but both knives and spices.
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828569
Living room. She has a comfortable chair to do her knitting in as she listens to old songs from when she was young. (Also that globe? It's the bar from Glamour pack if she feels thirty)
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1828570

...and last but not least, Mr Tribbles's room. With it's blue colors its in stark contrast to the rest of the house. But blue is for boys after all.

If you have any suggestions on how to improve my building let me know!

Your version is wonderful! Glad you were able to use my Mrs. C. I am afraid she isn't mean enough as one of my friends says she is really nice and gets along with her room mates in her game. But that is typical with the Sims 4...all the Sims act the same no matter what traits you give them. Even when you make them mean like I did her, everyone seems to like them anyway! Anyway...well done!

Oh, well, I had finished building a house for an eccentric elderly lady and her cat in TS2.
It turned out ok but something was amiss. Took me a few minutes to figure out what the problem was: That house was so not Mrs. Crumplebottom.
I guess I used my usual house structures to build it and it ended up looking more like a "grandma" kind of house, instead of a "crazy old bitch who hits people with a brick" kind of house.

I have just rebuild it from scratch, on an smaller lot and trying to get the right vibe.
It was certainly way more challenging that I expected at the beginning - and that's great!

I'll take another look at it tomorrow, and I'll take some pictures.
Empty house is ok? Or should it be inhabited for the picture purposes?

I am pleased to welcome you to my project for Mrs. C.'s hideaway should look like.
I welcome you because she would not, and you know it. That's why the first thing you'll notice when you arrive is an sturdy stone wall - nothing fancy, Mrs. C. would rather go unnoticed.
Actually the house is hardly to be seen, cause an unlikely visitor would also have to cross through a little wood - which is meant for privacy and peace of mind.
The house actually has windows only in three of the outside walls, because you never know who is gonna buy the next empty lot and peek into your house. So no windows on that side.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830207
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830208

Get to the door, say 'hello' to the unkind gnome (who kinda reminds me of Mrs. C. herself) and let's get inside.

Fist of all, the living room.
The fireplace was a must for she of course won't be having any electrical heating and it gets chilly here sometimes.
There is no sofa, because Mrs. C. does not mean to entertain anyone. At all. So one comfy chair near the fireplace is enough: There she'll do her reading, or take a nap if she gets tired of so much brick-hitting.
She also got her sewing machine in the living room. Many people would say it would be better located in another room (for example, Mr. Tibbles') but again because Mrs. C. does not mean to entertain and the living room is all for herself she'd rather have it near the fireplace as well.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830209
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830210

To the left there is a door which leads to the kitchen.
Mrs. C. decided not to waste space having a dining room (what's the point if you're always dining alone?) and has a table in the kitchen, in a matching style.
Everyhing is simple, flowery, and looking a bit worn but in good working condition.
She got a gas oven (she meant to get the good old wood one, but then she would need to hire someone to chop it) and she decided against getting a fridge. What for? She can store food the good ol' style (yeah, she's so into canning) and she's too stingy to have lots of food sitting in the house anyway.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830211

And now into the private part of the house.
First, Mrs. C.'s bedroom.
It is rather large and is furnished with a sofa (in case she wants to read or knit in her bedroom) and a chest of drawers where she stores her not-so-colorfour-and-extremely-discreet clothing.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830212
http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830213

Then, Mr. Tibbles' bedroom.
It is a large bedroom too, although his stuff did not require so much space. I built it this way because I meant this house to be a 2-bedroom house which Mr. C. bought and then accomodated to her tastes - rather than a custom made one - so it made sense that both rooms were large enough for a complete bedroom.
Notice that this is the ony room which does not have lace curtains. Because, cats. So now the curtains are rather basic.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830214

And last the bathroom.
Flowers painted on the tiles, on the sink, on the mirror, flowers everywhere. Looks busy despite the minimal decoration.
You can see the toilet in the reflection on the mirror - it was hard to take pictures of everything because it was built in the irregular space between bedrooms.

http://thumbs.modthesims.info/getimage.php?file=1830215

And that's it! I hope you liked the walk, I did enjoy building it indeed!

Ooh a challenge and a build challenge at that!

Most people envisage Mrs Crumplebottom as a rather menacing old lady but I think she is misunderstood and is really a sweet old granny who adores her grandchildren. She spends her days making them clothes and playing with her aged puss, Mr Tibbles.

The house is built in TS2 and on a 3x3 plot. There are two pieces of CC, a door and a terrain paint. The house came in at exactly $50,000!

I hope you enjoy my creation!

So here is me failing at this challenge...

I've been reading up on Frank Lloyd Wright's Usonian (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Usonia) homes (for another project), and I noticed it was a lot of retirees who commissioned these smaller, practical homes. With Mrs. Crumplebottom downsizing as well, I could easily see her trading in a presumably giant, unwieldy Victorian for cozy convenience. And while Mrs. Cumplebottom would no doubt be frugal, she would not, in my opinion, be humble. The absolute best for her money and bragging rights? Oh yes. So I guess in a way, I fundamentally disagree with the rules of the challenge, and I fail firstly, there. :(

So personal challenge for me was a catered Usonian-inspired home with feminine touches in a $50k budget. Well, I failed the budget part. Badly. Coming in a tad over $65,000, that's a painful fifteen thousand too much. But I did put forth the effort, so I'll at least show that. So on a 30x30 lot, here is Moksha, Mrs. Crumplebottom's custom FLW-influenced home for her twilight years. No CC, but a few choice pieces of Store content.

(Also, I'm not understanding the militant Mrs. Crumplebottom that seems to have become a thing. Maybe because I have my moments of being a disapproving curmudgeon, but I've never thought she went too far out of line...)

Perhaps her behavior changed in later iterations of the game. In Sims 1, Miss Crumplebottom would go to great lengths to discourage romance of any sort on community lots, including getting into a swimming pool fully clothed in order to assault the canoodling couple on the far side of the lot. In Sims 2, she not only assaults romantic couples - including teens getting their first kiss - but will harshly scold small children who dare to wear swimsuits at the public pool, then steal a pregnant lady's lunch, buy several drinks at the bar, and settle down at the poker table to gamble the night away. She will also crawl out of wishing wells to beat people up for no reason. So she's not just a curmudgeon. She's a violent busybody with rigid ideas about everybody else's "morals" who can do whatever she wants to, herself. So the hard-drinking militant is only a step away from canon in that game.

Reading this thread inspired me to put my own version of Crumplebottom into one of my Downtowns. As soon as I loaded her lot, she spun a want to join the army! Maybe she's been reading this thread over my shoulder and looking at Rafael's pictures. :giggler:

Reading this thread inspired me to put my own version of Crumplebottom into one of my Downtowns. As soon as I loaded her lot, she spun a want to join the army! Maybe she's been reading this thread over my shoulder and looking at Rafael's pictures. :giggler:

LOL I wonder how your version will look like? Not a army bunker or? Yeah go for it lol, the army cheers her up.

So here is me failing at this challenge...

Oh, that's not a fail .... that's.... absolutely gorgeous! I love that style of house, reminds me of the houses I'd see/be in when I was younger. There's a similar one not far from my own crappy (well, not crappy but definitely smallish) trailer and I drool at it every time I go by.

Hi guys! I've never posted like this here before, but I wanted to give it a shot. I've been seeing your posts and they all amaze and tickle me; this is such a fun challenge!

Lemme present Mrs. Crumplebottom's retirement house, The Haggsworth Cottage. The two-story house includes a cellar (for Mr. Tibbles), a living room, a dining room, a kitchen/laundry room, a landing that doubles as a sewing space, a bedroom, and two bathrooms.

Mrs. Agatha Crumplebottom, being the head of the Old Town Senior Citizens Tour Group, decided to retire in a quiet spot in Old Town after years of living dowtown near the haunts of the unsavory. The realtors were more than glad to sell The Haggsworth Cottage, because the mysterious deaths of its past residents placed the house as such a stubborn lemon to sell. This did not deter Mrs. Crumplebottom, however, because she knows better than to mess with the paranormal and the paranormal knows better than to mess with her. She even leaves the mysterious pink door (that leads to nowhere) in the cellar be. She just wants to live peacefully with her ferocious old cat, Mr. Tibbles.

I thought it would be more interesting to see Mrs. C compared to Agnes Crumplebottom as she's rather different in my game (she's in a wheelchair in her later years and does not live by herself). I usually post stuff on my tumblr (http://bayoubashsims.tumblr.com/) , but I saw this while browsing MtS and thought I should give it a try. I can't do much without CCs, but I hope you can enjoy it still :D

Although Mrs. Crumplebottom's house puts up a cold exterior, once past the thorny and dead bushes the house is quite cozy. Mrs. Cumplebottom has her garden in the back of the house, her bookshelves, and her leopard spotted bedspread. Mr. Tibbles has scratched the walls a little but now he has his own room to play and train in. Mrs. Crumplebottom is training Mr. Tibbles to win the cat agility competition.

I've lurked on here for years but now I'm starting to feel a bit more confident in my building abilities! I wrote a sort of back story for the lot and Ms. Crumplebottom(s) (or others I guess) and reasons for lot traits and decorations. I think I fixed everything and did a short playtest, and items should be usable by Sims. If you encounter any problems I'd be happy to fix it! Now I'm going to add the same description I have in the Gallery (in other words, the backstory).

Ms. Crumplebottom is trying to hide out after a particularly nasty argument with Dina Caliente. She and Mr. Tibbles were left with a fraction of her previously accumulated wealth, and have purchased a trailer in pretty bad shape. The only true change she was able to make was to split the bedroom into two, one for herself, and one for Mr. Tibbles. She has made some enemies throughout her life and as a result is able to keep most unwanted visitors away, as well as if they should show up, make them wish they never had. The previous owner also reported some, shall we say strange occurrences in the trailer. There is a portrait that cannot be removed no matter what she has tried. Even upon first moving in, she notices that the portrait of the Tragic Clown simply must be haunted and while she didn't have much of a choice for Winterfest tree storage, she plants her tree in an effort to block the ghastly painting. There's no telling what will happen when a person trying to disappear encounters those who do so against their will.

Build Constraints:
~20x15 lot (Cozy Hideaway in Newcrest)
~§30k budget
~Room for Mr. Tibbles
~No CC! Super hard to do because I have a lot of B&B CC

Build stats:
~Crumplebottom Hideaway
~§29,186 budget
~2 bed, 1 bath trailer
~Lot traits of Haunted, Mean Vibe, & Private Dwelling

So many amazing hideaways, guys, I'm gobsmacked!! Just a few comments while I was scrolling through the thread, but it's all so freaking awesome!!

@Victor_tor -- LOVE. I wanna re-install the original right now and get lost in it for about a month. So many feels!! Makin' Magic is perfect for Crumplebottom.

@Karen Lorraine I can't even handle how much I love that solarium with the cat condo and table. And the curtains for the closet nook are genius! Just the whole house... I get the feeling that I would really like the woman who lives there. And omg, §50K exactly! I did that too! The last hour, honestly, was the most irritating loop of adding and subtracting, but the ocd of it swallowed me whole. >_<

@cutsocks , every single detail is so gorgeously retro -- I love it!

@nenekijah , so much lace and disrepair, so much personality! The sign on the gate is perfect.

@brokenRebel - glad you took the plunge! I love the spooky Tragic Clown behind the tree, and the little kitty spot out back is awesome.

@Peni Griffin I laughed the whole way through the photo captions! Really do love your build -- especially the fact that even though absolutely nothing in that house matches it all looks perfect together.

@Zarathustra , I literally gasped when I scrolled down and saw that exterior. It's gorgeous.

Daaaaang, @Simmiller , that garden! Super lush and so inviting! ^_^

@Amura you really nailed letting her personality guide your build. it's totally her.

Okay, time to go take some pics -- gotta get this house posted before the clock runs out!

@Liz:
Thank youuuu!
That's a huge compliment, because that's exactly what I meant to do :)
There are much nicer houses here, by creators whose building skills exceed mine, but I'm happy to have achieved a building that actually felt like (my idea of) Mrs. Crumplebottom.
That's where they actual challege was for me.

One of my all-time favorite movies is Howard's End (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Howards_End_(film)) - so, to that 'end' I present to you: Crumplebottom's End
It is TS2
on a 1X2 lot adjusted lot
with no CC (except Lifestyle Siding - which is made by EAxis, so I don't count it)
and $39K - I was going for the under 30K mark, and had it... until I landscaped with those expensive hedges!

In my head-cannon Mrs C is a frustrated Victorian. She's elderly, but still spry; and sometimes forgets to take her meds (which results in *ahem* outbursts.) She loves her kitty very much, and just wants to spend time with him. She is alone and likes it that way. Thank-you-very-much

Home to Agnes' twin sister Clare, Crumple Cottage has retained it's timeless charm and eccentricities. (Clare came about because I didn't adhere to the original vision for the Crumplebottom home. :) )

I prefer playing Sims 3. I never had Sims 2 so I have no personal experience of Mrs. Crumplebottom, and the only downloadable sim of her on this site is for Sims 4. Does anyone have recommendations for what traits and life time wishes would be good for making her in Sims 3 CAS? I could add the finished sim to be available for download.

@gojira86 I don't remember enough about my brief excursion into TS3 to know what info you need, but here are a few details... I would give her a very low nice score (she physically assaults people on a routine basis). You could give her a decent playful score for her poker proclivity, but I think she should be super low there too, given her total intolerance of shenanigans. For a LTW I'd make her a frustrated Family sim. In various game iterations she's either a widow or a spinster, so it's like her romance rage is a jealousy thing. She's outgoing enough to walk up and clobber complete strangers, but she's not even a little bit interested in making friends. A cat should give her all the Social she could ever want. She's a fit woman, able to climb up out of wishing wells and make with the impromptu beatings, and she can and does charge energetically across those community lots dispensing Handbag Justice, so I'd make her active (and if TS3 lets you, skinny from the get-go).

I can see her as a teacher (she wouldn't necessarily enjoy the kids, but she'd be super into telling them how to behave). Others enjoy the thought of her as a military woman. Given her penchant for modesty I don't picture her in any job or career that involves any shaking and/or revealing of it. She might be a homebody who sends her cat(s) out to earn her/their keep. Really, there's a range to play with here, given what we know of her. You could keep her super traditional or go full hermit, heavy on the eccentricity.

Will add more if I think of it, but I hope that helps! ^_^

Double-posting FOR SCIENCE! And to show a house...

There have been so many amazing builds for this, and I'm sincerely grateful for the challenge, @Hellfrozeover , as I've really learned from the process and the results. I kept trying to steer toward lace and potpourri, but then I would veer back into my own lane, where I'm more aesthetcally comfortable. As a result I may have built another home that, instead of being the love letter to Crumplebottom I'd intended, looks more like the set of a sit-com where, because wacky odd-couple hijinks, Crump and I have to somehow live together without an excessive amount of murder. So, that's something I'm going to need to work on as a builder (sticking to the theme, I mean. I hardly ever murder people anymore). Also I said "another home" because I made a first effort here (http://www.modthesims.info/d/624863/chez-crump.html) that completely failed even to pretend to respect the budgetary requirements, so it didn't make the thread. This is my actual entry, Crumpton Lodge (http://www.modthesims.info/d/624939/crumpton-lodge.html). It's on a 3x3 lot in TS2, and the budget this time? Nailed it. §50,000 exactly. (*high-fives @Zarathustra and @Karen Lorraine)

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/6/4/3/5/MTS_Liz-1831820-thread1.jpg

If there was one thing I wanted more money for, it was landscaping. Going for "back among the trees" here without buying a lot of actual trees. Also liked the idea of the front door looking a little barred against the welcome wagon. Of course I spared no expense in providing her with the finest in it's-not-electrical telescope technology in order to spy on monitor the neighbours. You know she's gonna be a one-woman Neighbourhood Watch.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/6/4/3/5/MTS_Liz-1831821-thread2.jpg

The bedroom is decorated in "old-fashioned romance" but with zero hint of hanky-panky. The room is big enough for a double bed, but why? Nobody's allowed in here but the cat.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/6/4/3/5/MTS_Liz-1831822-thread3.jpg

The bathroom is minty and old-fashioned and has lace and flowers and even more flowers and a raised tank with a chain to pull, and nothing ever happens in this room.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/6/4/3/5/MTS_Liz-1831823-thread4.jpg

The old-fashioned continues in the kitchen area, and I think "old-fashioned" became my refuge from the fussy doilies I kept meaning to include. The curtains are way too fancy for a kitchen this small, though, and that's on purpose. Since this hideaway is meant to be a literal retreat from the world, I had the idea that some of the furnishings should be remnants from a much more opulent mansion where she used to live.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/6/4/3/5/MTS_Liz-1831824-thread5.jpg

This includes the lavish loveseat, stately armchair, and other living room furnishings that are just a little bit grander than a home this size really needs, as seen from the inside of the fish tank our fastidious resident doesn't really care for but maintains for the entertainment of her feline companion.

http://thumbs2.modthesims2.com/img/5/2/6/4/3/5/MTS_Liz-1831859-thread6.jpg

This little living room now holds the loveseat and armchair from an old parlour, as well as the desk and a bookcase from the library. Two chairs from the antique, imported dining room set are now used for playing chess, and the piano has moved from conservatory to the hallway space available. It all seems to suggest something of a decline in one's circumstances, but far from being some tragic loss, that's exactly how this lady likes it. No great, empty mansion to maintain, no more servants to supervise constantly, lest they start fornicating while stealing from her. Just a proud, independent, uptight, kinda violent woman and her precious juicebar cat.

Okay everyone :D Today is the last submission day that you'll get a participation sticker for! I'll do a final mop up and get the remainder of the stickers given out tomorrow :D

Please remember though, that even although the event may be closed in that sense, you are still welcome to build a Crumplebottom hideaway even after the event date, it just won't be awarded, so keep them coming :)

Joe-
I just finished scouting out the house that old lady Crumplebottom left to the Animal Society in her will. It is something. First all I could see was trees, is there even a house in there? I find the mailbox, so yeah, it's the right one. And the weird thing is, it is surrounded by a high fence, and no gate. I walked the whole property line and no gate, none, nada, niente. How did that frail old lady get over the fence?

Sending you the pictures of the front. Notice anything?- no windows. The entire house has only 5 windows, and none of them face the front.

Inside is kinda cozy, but decorated from last century. She put this floral wallpaper over the paneling in the main room- that's gonna be a pain to scrape off. The fireplace works. The kitchen might be a lost cause- I think that stove is original to when they invented stoves.

There is an alcove off the main room, with storage for all these bottles of wine, but no bottles are in there. There are wine glasses on every table and counter, even next to the tub. I don't wanna start a rumor about a drinking problem, but sheesh. Also, there are handbags everywhere, hardly any clothes but a boatload of handbags.

The main bedroom is okay, but seems smaller because of the loud wallpaper. There is cat hair on everything! And when you pull down the shades, the windows blend into the walls- it's like there are no windows in the room- creepy!

The second bedroom must be seen to be believed. It was for her cat, I guess, because it is filled with cat stuff, toys and beds and a litterbox that has seen better days, and better cleanliness. Then, if you look at the picture of the Eiffel Tower, it is covering the final window. It folds down and there is a telescope set up (for peeping?). Crumplebottom was a strange bird.

Thanks Joe, for the opportunity to list the house, but my advice is, tear it down and start over.

Truth be told I used the painting to cover some rocks that are a part of the cracks I used on that wall
