The staff and I would like to wish all of our members and anybody else reading this a very happy christmas! We wish you all the best and hope you have a great time!
Here's a pic of the tree we have here, complete with plumbob on the top! (3d printed of course)
Merry Christmas from all here at MTS!

And yes, the tree is not too cheerful with that yellow plumbbob but I didn't have any green filament until today. Either way, it's an upgrade from the red paper one we had last year. :D Merry Christmas, everyone! <3

Just wondering how you did the plumbob. Did you do it in two segments and join them together, or can you now get 3D printers that can "print" from multiple angles, as it were?
28th Dec 2013, 1:39 AM
a bit late but Happy Holidays to everyone
28th Dec 2013, 11:45 AM
lionessgirl - It's actually three pieces. The support "stick", and then two halves that I, um, glued together with a glue stick because I couldn't find any superglue and was too lazy to design a nice snap-fit piece. I used this, just didn't print the headband: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:171227
My printer could've printed it in one piece as my printer can do quite large items, but would've been a little difficult to keep it from falling over with only a small point on the build plate.
28th Dec 2013, 11:49 AM
Couldn't you have printed it tilted over so that it was large face down?
28th Dec 2013, 11:54 AM
Yes, that's possible. But the angle of the parts to the build place would've been to steep - too much of an overhang from the point that'd be up in the air, and so it'd have had to be printed with support (waste plastic that breaks away) both inside and outside, and the interior plastic would've been trapped inside, and exterior support rarely leaves a perfect finish when it breaks away.
