On the official Sims 3 blog is news of a new game update to 1.18/2.13/3.9/4.6/5.4/6.1. There are a whole heap of changes, so please see the second post in this thread more more information!

Some of the more interesting changes are:

- Routing problems which caused the game to hitch has been fixed (possibly a similar fix to this can be found here: 425764)
- Fixed an issue that causes the game to try to place Ambitions specific lots in Bridgeport, thus causing the game to crash (aka grey lots).
- Wall tops are no longer invisible when building on an empty lot on PCs with ATI video cards

One thing that seems to be missing is the Vampire skill bug and the bug when Sims get opportunities not within the same town.

And yet, no vampire skilling bug fix? Pah!

No fix to the camera in high-rises?

No fix to going allllll the way downstairs to eat yer food if you live in a high-rise and don't have a table (but do have somewhere else appropriate to sit)?

No fix to sims congregating in massive groups for no apparent reason?

Seems like they fixed a buttload of little bugs, but most of the big ones (with the exception of the invalid opportunity places thing and the wall thing with ATI cards) seem to have gotten left out.

Haha this gave me a good laugh. There are some pretty funny ones!
"Sims will no longer receive a wish to “Skinny Dip” with Mummies."
"Pianists will no longer continue playing pianos that have been detonated."
"Baby Sims will no longer answer a call from the Callbox and invite Sims in."
"Sims can no longer WooHoo in the Elevator with a Sim who is on a different floor."
"Interacting with the Butler will now satisfy a Toddler’s Fun motive."

I see some good fixes (most of them were fixed by the community!)

I'm just glad they updated the "playing for tips in the subway" glitch. The funny thing is I was just yesterday messing around with files seeing if I could fix this lol >.<

Any mirrors for the updates, my program always only seems to update my base and most recent expansion while missing the others.
Still looking over all these tweaks and how they will mess with mods

What about fixing the massive amount of derelict cars that appear on the streets, in sims inventories, and on community lots? I couldn't care less about mummies not having a soaked moodlet in the hot tub, what about all the lag in my game?

EDIT: I just patched, and my game no longer has lag with a new cc free game. I played for 2 1/2 hours with no skipping or stuttering at all. Everyone likes to read in the clean game though. People stand and read in front of the movie theater, my sim always wants to read something, and her lover even brings books with her when she visits. Weird.

Thank you Naiyasfury for your suggestion. I will definitely get it if my CC causes the game to lag again.

Oh thanks much, Tummy Tickler, I hope it works for my version

Got everything running smooth, too bad now it all messes with the Extended Core Modifier, but we are moving forward slowly.

All other mods seemed to be working just fine, more testing needed obviously. :report:

You'll need to talk to EA about digital download issues, missie2020.

missroxor, each one is for a different region (in most cases physical. region 1, or direct download, region 17). You don't technically need to patch anything but your basegame and your latest EP... I still don't trust that theory much though.

First, thanks to the Mods and everyone here for helping get through this mess and make the game sort of playable.

Now the warning....
Okay, before the patch my game ran fairly smoothly but suffered all the other well documented problems.
Now, since this patch, it is totally impossible to play and freezes every few seconds. So I can't even be bothered to see if the Bartenders are back at work yet!
This is just another reminder to you all that even if you checked the compatability of core mods before patching, as I thought I had done.... still run through all the checks again with a clean setup.

I will try again... and maybe eventually get some uninterrupted gameplay!

Kittenette069, people always stood around reading in front of the theatre, it is not you.

Today I had the paint shift where the B form of the book case from HEL would display the books on the side of the book case instead of in the proper position and it would corrupt the night stand if you had used that to take the skin from. It is corrected by the patch. Oh yeah the game saves now without a DEP error, but that is probably because its a new system without DEP enabled across all programs.

After reading on another forum that the launcher didn't put ALL the patches in their game I went and checked my numbers, and even tho it did several patches it did NOT do all of them. To get all my versions to match the new numbers I am having to manually patch some of them. Just a heads up :)

It won't install... argh. It says "Update Error: Invalid File Found" after everything's done, i.e went through the downloading phase, then actually installing it. The progress bar fills all the way, then it pops up with the error. I think it's installing the Ambitions version. Probably an error with my various mods. Bout time I stopped cheating and actually played a clean game, eh.

Nope, you are not alone. I was typing while I was installing the patches the launcher missed. When I got to the AM patch I got the invalid file so I am redownloading it now to see if that fixes it. I took my whole mods folder out before doing the patches so I don't think that is it.

Edit: Still didn't fix the AM patch.

Edit #2: I think they have updated the AM patch. I DL it from there again and this time it worked.

It is about time! I couldn't even paly the game before because of the "hitching." Now I notice that is is way too easy to gain celebrity points. I think EA is really getting sloopy!

HystericalParoxysm
2nd Dec 2010, 4:03 PM
kathy2852 - Do you mean that it's easier to gain celebrity points with 1.18 vs 1.17? Cos I have a mod for that which was made with 1.17... I didn't see anything in the patch notes regarding celebrity-related changes, but if that's changed... eh, I should really go and see if I need to update that. Bah.

Edit: Whee, no changes made to that XML, no updates needed.

Unfortunately they didn't fix the routing issue in Bridgeport, so that hasn't been changed either, even though it should have been.

I didn't even notice until I tried to use the Any Game Starter to just open Ambitions and it wouldn't work because it wasn't patched! I use FordGT90Concept's Patch Downloader, way more effective than the launcher.

@Flaygor,
I saw one thing over on the official forums that worked for me. You'll have to put up with the freezing and around 3am in the game it just goes away. I've since saved and reloaded after this point and it's still going fine. I have no idea why this happened the way it is. Be warned that playing with the freezing can be extremely painful, so be patient and I hope it works as well for you as it did for me.

Overall though, it's a disappointing patch as there are plenty of very obvious bugs yet to be fixed. One that annoys me is I dropped a sim from my band but I can't replace them with another sim as the game says the band is full even though it only has three members (and this is shown correctly in the band tab).

So I'm getting the little pop up that says "You have installed game modifications that are incompatible with the current patch level blah blah blah". I took out my hacks folder (leaving in only clothes, hair, patterns and custom skins) and I'm still getting it. Did this patch break custom skins or anything of that nature?

@Ranissa

Possibly a dumb question, but did you delete your cache files after removing your mods?

These are CASPartCache.package, compositorCache.package, scriptCache.package and simCompositorCache.package (In Electronic Arts/The Sims 3 folder if you're using XP). If you're using windows, some suggest deleting your windows temp files may be a good idea.

Try the game and hopefully that annoying message should go away. Check to see if your mods have been updated or if the mod creator says an update isn't needed and replace them as required. Then you can try them back in the game.

I did all that before posting. That's why I'm rather confused. :o) Went ahead and went into the game and it plays fine but I get the dreaded Error 16 when trying to save. I'll start taking things out one by one 'til I find it but...rather annoying when it's something simple rather than a game-changing mod (which I updated all of them, heh).

Edit: I just took ALL CC out and tried starting the game (after deleting the cache files) and I'm still getting the error. Looks like this is now a "my game is borked" thing, so off to the help forum I go.

Edit2: Awww, HP, thanks. For anyone who cares, Step 3 (Removing User Files) fixed the issue, up to and including being able to save. I even managed to put my Saves and such back with no issues. Weird but yay for directions.

I have two questions.
1. Are there direct link for sequential update for BG/WA/HELS/AMB? I mean like this, from 1.17 to 1.18 for BG.
2. Do I have to download all the updates for all EP/SP that I have right now? I mean, the last BG 1.15 to 1.17 have 262MB size (I download it in 3+ hours) or the FLS 5.0 to 5.2 have 101MB size. It such a pain to download all these big size update.

Thank you.

There aren't, but you can figure them out pretty easily. Go here: Game Help:Sims 3 Patching/Patch Download. Because there has only been one patch for LN, there's no uniblob; copy the url for the LN patch for your region and replace the version numbers with the ones you want. Be aware though that EA don't offer the regular patches reliably any more, which is why we link to the uniblobs.

You need to patch at least the base game and your latest EP/SP. If you use AGS, you need to patch the others too.

My sims are very unhappy with the patch. Even when their needs are all met, they are still furious for no apparent reason. I wonder if it is some sort of glitch or if they just made it harder to keep them happy. I have noticed that if I exit to the main menu and then enter the game again, they get happier for a little while, so I'm thinking glitch instead of feature.

Same here. It's being reported in the official forum as well. Sims mood meter eventually drains to almost nothing no matter what motive levels or moodlets (positive, negative, neutral or none at all). It's being reported in the base game with no CC or mods as well. Restarting the game is the only workaround I've found, but it only fixes the problem for a couple of sim days.

Apparently the mood thing is related to the well rested moodlet... it's glitched and when it expires, it can remove more mood than it gave in the first place. For now, until a fix can be made/another patch fixes it, don't let your sims sleep long enough to become well-rested.

I have noticed that if I exit to the main menu and then enter the game again, they get happier for a little while, so I'm thinking glitch instead of feature.

Solution found is : patch everything, base game + all EP's and stuff packs you have.

I had exactly the same thing. I wondered if this was a "feature", making the game a tad little bit harder wouldn't be a bad idea but this was way too much. I had sims in the deep red zone half of time and for no apparent reason, and even after a week of work, they couldn't get past level 1 of their jobs (with the progression meter barely in the green). Drama and tragedy!

The thing is that, for once, I had patched through the launcher and not completely manually. I have Base Game + WA, AMB and LN, and the launcher only patched Base Game and Late Night. So I visited the patch section here to find the missing patches (WA & AMB) but downloaded only the one for WA because there was a 'world version' (end with 02) and not for Ambition (only 01=us or 17 = digital).

Since I had read that the 'official EA way' to patch only deals with BG + last EP and this is said to be enough, I decided to give it a try like that, without patching Ambition. Now someone will have to explain me how it's possible to release fixes for previous EP's and make them magically available if you don't patch those previous EP's as well. Well, altogether, when I tested in game I had the same problems as mentioned above.

When I checked the version of my games in the bottom left corner of the launcher, I noticed that the patch officially applied to LN by the **!** thing was also a '01 / us' version even if I bought the game in Europe. Have they stopped to make so many different versions and only stick to 01 = disk-based and 17 = digital download? For once that would be a smart idea, just they could have advertised it.

So I patched Ambition with the 4.6.(...)01 patch I downloaded here, and since my game + EP's are fully patched, I don't have any problem with the moods of my Sims. Tadaam, victory!

Oh yikes. My game was relatively OK in the speed. Then I installed this patch and now it is choppy. :( Playing for a few seconds, then getting stuck for a few seconds (or more), repeat, rinse.

I should have waited with this patch.
So my warning: if you are ok with your game and not bothered by the bugs that get fixed in the patch do not update. :(

I am fully patched and I still have this issue.

The one workaround I've read about is to sleep on a bed that gives +25 well rested, because -25 is what is being subtracted.

Well indeed, sadly it seems that it is also a bug, and not only a matter of fully patching. I'm just lucky enough not to have it anymore. * feeling sorry for all the unlycky ones *

I guess EA could now come with another patch to solve the bugs their latest patching attempt created, good old usual story!

I'm not up on all the lingo you guys use, but I know my Sims games...

I installed the 1.18 update via the Sims Game Launcher (I'm pretty sure I don't have any mods) and I have terrible lag every other sim second!!! I've played like this for multiple sim days hoping it would fix itself (as I've read) and I've also deleted CASPartCache.package, CompositorCache.package, ScriptCache.package, and SimCompositorCache.package as I've also read that may help. Nothing!! I have no expansion packs - just the base game. I know it's not my computer.

Help?!

I would advise you to post in Sims 3 Help, jessamucca, so you can be more effectively assisted.

I had the same problem as you jessamucca. I had to re-install my game and wait for the next patch... I didn't install the patch again after that.

Call we a weenie, but I'm afraid to update. I don't have a clue how to check if it will impact my current mods. I can live with current game issues. Anyone have any clue how to determine if it will mess with current mods downloaded?

It will mess with your existing mods (by which I mean hacks - objects etc should be fine). Patches always do. You might have two or three which don't need updating, but probably not more than that. The easiest way to check whether or not a mod needs to be updated is to go back to where you downloaded it and see if there is either an update, or a load of comments asking for an update.

wow I'm not updating now, after reading about the plummeting moods. I was going to update, just to get Twallan's same sex pregnancy thing (and take it out after the baby was born) but now I'm just going to hope I can find his older versions.

All these complications are the reason why I hate this game, and play it less and less often. Pretty soon I won't bother playing it at all. Need this for that, but before I can do that I must do this over here, blah ad infinitum.

You folks are swell but jesus is this game a PITA.

twallan keeps all his old mod versions in the.. what is it? Obsolete mods subforum? Something like that. Anyway, don't most of his mods work with both 1.17 and 1.18 at the moment?

Hi Whiterider, I went over there last night, found the older version but when I clicked on the link using various browsers all I got was a 404 error. And he had already updated for the lastest patch like 24 seconds after it was released so I'm guesstimating that I do need the older version (v. 164). My game launcher says 6.0.81.009001.

Ah well, will continue to wait patiently. In the meantime, *somebody*cough* went on a download spree. lol If this keeps up, I'll have every sim item ever created, joined every sim forum in existence and the most explody computer ever. :) But so far everything looks clean, thanks to Delphy's CUSTARD.

Has anybody experinced a glitch where their Active Sims have not appearing on the list? Because I have and it is getting on my Noives (Nerves Jersey Style). PEople have well "Disagreed" with me about the glitch. But I can't fix it. Have EA mentioned anything about it? Or have they not noticed?

Hi, everyone.

This is becoming increasingly frustrating for me because I am trying to get AwesomeMod to work on my game and it caused the game to not start up, indicating that I didn't have the latest patch up. I did have all the patches up to NL, but I think the issue here is with my SPs.... however when I tried to install those patches it told me that those were invalid files and wouldn't install! Help!

CassHyde, yeah, that's a common bug. Try restoring a backup save.

hannahdent, AwesomeMod support can be got over at MATY. :)
